    These were good looking tractors. We were John Deere but we had neighbors who had 560s. I never got to drive one but I liked the way they looked. We had a 400 diesel and my father said when he got rid of it There would be no more IH tractors on our farm. John Deeres just fit our farm and labor better.

    They do have a power steering that was really good. No matter how much weight on the front.

If you think of anyone else that would enjoy watching these, spread the word. I purchased them to share with everybody & like the Giving Tree I'm not out to panhandle for change in exchange. Have a good nite!

    Not what they claimed, I used one several years ago prepping a hundred acres been field for planting. It couldn't pull a ten foot disk in third gear at high rpm on level ground, so I dropped to second with slightly better results. It took 26 hours, two days with very poor results. Wasn't happy at all. I was doing a friend a favor by doing this. He couldn't do it because of his work schedule. He was happy the way it turned out.

      Somethin wrong with that tractor. My grandpa had 5 of them and yes the ones that needed it went thru the update "tents" that were put up at the dealerships (and had the "stamps" on the I.D. plates) to fix the problem but some attitudes were damaged.
      I still have a '58 that Dad bought the year I was born. When we farmed, this tractor had axle mount dials, narrow front with a 150 gal.tank mounted on the side to supply the spray bar that was on the rear most cultipacker. In between was a 12' Oliver disk, cultipacker and a IH Grain Drill.
      We seeded soybeans into plowed ground and didnt need to go back until harvest on 100 acres every year. My Dad learned how to make these tractors run.

    The diesels did hold up better in the field. Dad had a gas because he used all winter feeding cattle.

    560's have been good tractors for us. Still have 2 of them. Both diesle. One is hooked up to my pto generator and may hafta start it any time now as i am waiting out a blizzard!

      The 560 is a great tractor. I also have a diesel. Hope to make it my primary hay tractor this year to save on fuel. The 806 is a gas piggy. Good luck with the blizzard. Hope you don't have to fire up the genny, although any excuse to operate a tractor is a good one. :vD

    Great engine, but hooked up to the back end of a farmall m gave ihc a big black eye! Especially at the same time jd was secretly developing and going to introduce big 6cyl power too!

    • @ikonseesmrno7300
      @ikonseesmrno7300  3 роки тому +3

      It's interesting how that went. If IH had skipped the 60 series & went to the 06, JD might still be wondering what happened.

      @@ikonseesmrno7300 The rearend of this tractor was largely unchanged from the original Farmall M design. The power was gradually uprated in the following Farmall Super M, M-TA, then 400 & finally 450 series tractors. There is a story the IH engineers said that the Farmall M rearend was at its limit in the previous Farmall 450 tractor and adding a more powerfull engine would cause failures. The salespeople wanted the 560 pushed onto the market to compete with their competitors new models. The smaller 460 used the Farmall H rearend and suffered similar problems too. The 460 and 560 were mainly sold in North America and its a myth that these less than perfect tractors contributed to IH's much LATER decline worldwide. The following 06, 56, 66 & 86 Series rowcrop tractors were solid, reliable tractors.

      @@michaelhalsall5684 Several farmers were left high and dry when the rear end laid down and at a critical time. Depending on the dealer, many guys went across the aisle. Some came back, some did not. Now the issue is being able to repair your own. They all suffer from that. The new stuff is comfortable to be sure. Impressive? When it breaks, you better have a soft spot picked out to land.

      @@ikonseesmrno7300 I agree. ..I bleed red but timing was bad....from the rotary combines to the 88 series tractor they had industry leading innovation but the damage caused by the 560 coupled with the new generation deere, along with the 80s farm crisis ultimately ruined the greatest farm equipment company

    • @michaelhalsall5684

      @@Blazefork Here in Australia the 460 & 560 weren't sold here. The larger and slightly improved 660 diesel was sold here and was popular with our wheat growers. IH lost ground in Australia due the improved technology of British tractors and value of rival Australian built tractors. In the USA IH was a sprawling industrial empire that made everything from large trucks to small garden tractors to construction equipment. There was a lack of direction and internal inter-departmental competition that weakened IH globally.

      What's even more frustrating about the 560 is that they were developing the 8 speed transmission back in the 50's. By the time of the 06 or 56 series, they should've already had the transmissions of the 88 series.

    Very controversial statement, but I think the Farmall 60 series is better than John Deere's New Generation.

    • @ikonseesmrno7300
      @ikonseesmrno7300  5 місяців тому +1

      I'm still at an impasse. The 60 series is what I'm familiar with. Haven't had a chance to drive any of the New Gen tractors to form an opinion on them. There is more power there, but I'm on the fence about the transmission. Also heard they were not trouble free & Deere had to iron out some bugs. Have heard some of the repairs were done in a secluded area so as not to attract too much attention from the press. Will be interesting to hear more about that. Regards!

    • @thegreenerthemeaner

      New Gen had waaaay better Power Steering, Synchronized transmission, bigger Operator station, 2 speed PTO with no mess, mid PTO, Power Brakes, a real drawbar, and lots nicer seat. I've ran both. If the 460/560 was better than a New Gen, why the 06 series? 560 couldn't begin to pull what a 4010 did. A 3010 gas was an absolute joke.

  • @jti2007
    @jti2007 3 роки тому +7

    The 560 was a poor tractor compared to the John Deere new generation tractors. The only thing they had better than the Deere is the 6 cylinder engine. It was smooth as silk.

    • @TonyM132
      @TonyM132 3 роки тому +3

      560's direct competitor is the 730, not 4010. Both 560 and 730 debuted in 1958. 560 did run a couple years longer, as new generation 4010 hit the market in 1961, 706/806 not until '63. But Farmall 560, Oliver 880, and JD 730 were the row crop leaders in 1958, 59, & 60.
      What do you mean about the engine? The new generation Deere 4010 was a 6-cylinder also.
