- www.carlislepad... - Dan McCain and crew conquer another rare Northwest drop. Mosier Falls (a.k.a Mosier Creek Falls) is east of Portland and this was the first tandem raft descent recorded at the falls (70 foot drop). Water was running at 125 CFS.

I was born in raised in Mosier and have swam at the pocket many times. One day in somewhere around 2004 on a late summer day, a couple of my friends and I went down there to hang out for a bit. We were swimming a little bit in the upper pocket that is before the falls you went down. We were then observing the lower pocket that you rafted down into and I climbed down and around to the shelf 10ft up right before the lower pockets water starts... I had the bright idea that I would climb up the waterfall. I got nearly to the top about 4 feet from cresting over and I lost my footing and fell down. The quote from my one of my friends that was near and saw it said I was "bouncing" on my butt essentially against some rocks on the way down then I hit sort of sideways on my left side against that flat shelf just above the lower pocket and slowly got pushed by the water, rolling into the pool. I had the wind severely knocked out of me and muttered help and barely swam myself into shallow water. My buddy raced down and helped me out of the water. Luckily I was mostly uninjured besides a scare on my left buttocks. My friend actually got a 4" gash in his palm from a rock as he came to my aid. Anyways, I could have very easily been killed with one different bounce or if my leg had his the fall and pushed me out and turned me over. Anyways, you got down that fall better than I did!

Amazing technique! The way they leaned into those turns to manipulate that raft like a skateboard was almost super-human.

@@Tooflower I believe IF you are Native and can prove it, talk to the boys at the fish stands with nets, legality only stands if they say no. 😉 in other words, it is possible, just do not broadcast that it was done.

There's footage from the 70s of dudes owing those falls. Tribal land was no excuse then.
