Love that you were listening to Sinatra at the Sands. One of my favorite Sinatra albums. The trio of Sinatra, Count Basie and Quincy Jones was one of the most dynamic live recordings in history. And the rest of your video wasn’t bad either. 😉
I have the ht-a9 (the previous version of the quad) and you can choose to play music in regular stereo mode or up mix it to use all speakers for an Atmos like experience.
I recently purchased the Arc Ultra, 2 Era 300s, and the Sub 4. I cross shopped the Sonos and Sony systems and ultimately went with the Sonos setup for a few main reasons. 1, I noticed that even used Sonos components sell for close to retail prices, which is good to know if I ever want to upgrade any component. 2, the setup with a Sub, was cheaper than the Sony system (I could have waited for a sale and tried my luck, but I didn't). And as briefly mentioned in reason 1, the ability to upgrade individual components in the future.
After watching your Bravia Quad videos I watched Andrew Robinson’s and then bought it. I got a really good deal on the quad without the sub for $1700 shipped from a Chicago based electronics store over the holidays and then added the $500 sub. $2200 all in ain’t bad
@ I like it a lot. Better than my old Nakamichi setup. One thing was I had to mentally recalibrate. My old soundbar system like 20 volume was good but there’s a lot more granular change and the range goes from 0-100 on the Sony. So sometimes in movies I’d have to put the volume up to 45-50 to feel like I am in it. But other times depending on the content you’re watching, in the 20s is good. The sound is really great. Honestly music sounds so good and it’s very simple. When I open spotify at my house it just pops up with an airplay “connect to Bravia Theatre Quad”. Have listened to the Wicked soundtrack on here once or twice already and it sounds incredible! One disappointing thing that I think he talks about is the side speakers seem kinda useless and like they’re doing nearly nothing with content that doesn’t have anything for them to do. It’s not really the fault of the speakers but I kinda wish it would just do some kind of light duplication of the stereo track or something. Maybe it would be strange if you’re watching a UA-cam video and stereo sound is coming from your left and right. They just feel wasted at times.
@@Target135the complaint about the side speakers is the same as you would have with a full hifi system. Personally I would rather have stereo content come out as plain stereo, but having an option to do what you want that you could turn on and off seems like a good idea.
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos on tv’s and sound systems lately because I connected an old Vizio sound bar that wasn’t being used to my LG C3. I was so impressed with how much the dialogue was improved I purchased a Vizio M series based on your recommendation. Your comparison and reviews are very helpful and enjoyable.
I have the Quads with 1 speaker close to the side of the TV and other at the other side of the room and I have no idea what voodoo magic Sony employs but the sound comes clearly and directly from the TV and not from the close by right hand side speaker, it's bloody uncanny, as for the rest, it just simply fills the room with sound that blew away my previous Samsung Atmos soundbar where the soundstage was very much centered on the TV whereas the Quads feels very much like being in the cinema with the huge soundscape... Pricey but worth every penny
I've got the Hta9, know exactly what you mean about the phantom centre channel, my TV speakers are off but can swear they sound is coming from it & not the front two speakers which are far apart. Their acoustical magic is a reason ut costs as much as it does.
Was waiting for this. I purchased the Quads and an SW-5, with a Sony A95L which I have connected as a centre and have wall mounted the speakers, with recessed cabling. I just didn't want a soundbar under the TV ruining the aesthetic of the room. The sound is unreal and the speakers look very discreet.
I really liked how you talked about how these interacted in your studio Caleb! More of this please. I watch allot of hifi reviews and people don't speak enough about the specifics of their space (size, heights, reflective, treated walls etc)
I'm pretty happy with my Bravia Theatre Quad w/ SA-SW3 setup. It works great for my family room where the only place I can put a TV is above the fireplace (gak!) so the absence of a physical "center channel" allows the TV to be mounted a bit lower.
Happy quad owner here. Can't beat the ease of setup with the separation. Although, I did mod my system so I'm using a third party ELAC RS500 subwoofer. :)
@@3cmoneyHi, my friend made me a mod box that basically he has taken out the pcb from the SW3 and mounted it into a box and padded down the amp output to speaker level inputs to feed my Elac RS500 sub. Sony then just thinks a SW3 is connected but obviously can use any sub or even a splitter to use dual subs. Went with the Elac as it had built in calibration and room correction.
I just upgraded my v1 Arc to the Arc Ultra with dual Gen 3 subs and Fives in a great room and high ceilings. I'm about 85% cable TV or steaming services like Apple TV, Amazon Prime, or Netflix. Gave up on Blu-ray back in 2020, my son took his PS5 when he moved out, and music is usually iphone airplay (also multi room Sonos with Beam, Arc, Era 100, Symfonisk, and Roam). Figured the dual subs to fill the extra large great room and Fives for a laser beam of sound to a wider sweet spot for U-shaped sitting area. Sound fantastic and no plans to upgrade again; unless, Sonos comes out with Era 500s.
That stereo music function when streaming from Apple TV thru earc to soundbar would drive me crazy!! 🎉 ever since I got the ATV 4k connected to a QN90C thru earc to Q990C, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed full Atmos music with Apple Music!!! Before without the Apple TV, the Sam QN90C doesn’t play atmos music 🎉 One thing I learned from Ealan was the Sony Theater quad, the atmos only really comes in as a X.x.2 sound field. Not really the full .4 Atmos processing. 🎉
I bought the Sonos system and I’m really happy with. The Sonos sub being better than the Sony was a big point. I’ve read some complaints on it. The Sony quads would have been difficult to setup in my room.
I am kind of in between here! Music listening is a huge consideration for me and, if I didn’t have a separate listening only space in another room, I’d pick the Quad. However, I like the option to play music in my home theater room too, so I might pick the Quad anyway. Anyway this was a very fun and thorough comparison of these two options!
I've had the Samsung 990 and now the Quad. Not even a close contest for me, if what you want is immersive, acoustically balanced sound, with a truly confounding, non-existent center channel!
This was a very helpful comparison. Thanks Caleb! I was looking at the Sonos system as a possibility for a future audio upgrade for my current home theater setup, but since I love both watching movies & TV shows as well as listening to music on Apple Music through my Apple TV, I think the Sony Bravia Theater Quad will be the best fit for me.
Having the Sony HT-A9 I can confirm the virtual center speaker is awesome. I would definitely go with the Theatre Quad. DTS support and HDMI input (Apple TV 4K for bit perfect) is superior to the Sonos.
I have an Arc Ultra system and the original Sony HT-A9, couldn’t agree with your findings more. The Sony walks all over the Sonos for music. It’s better with Atmos movies too. The Sonos Arc Ultra is better for normal TV viewing, which we do the most of. I haven’t heard the Quad yet, but the HT-A9’s biggest weakness is the lack of a center channel. So hopefully it’s much better now with the Quad, as you describe. Thanks as always Caleb!
Excellent, unbiased review. I would love either system, but am very content with my Samsung Q990C which I purchased over a year ago for $900. I believe it's still the best value for money in the soundbar market, same goes for the D and the current F. Thanks Caleb!
Anyone other competing system is 2-3 times as expensive and is marginally better in certain areas at best. Smart buyers wouldn't ever even consider getting a different high-end soundbar (or soundbar-like system). If you want better, you're better off getting an actual proper surround system. Otherwise, a Q990 should be the only one to consider. If the others sell poorly they will actually need to drive their prices down to compete.
I also have the Q990C and love it as well. I watch these videos and often think about upgrading but then I think to myself is it really worth it, will it be much better, I just can’t see it. I also paid $800cad on marketplace
@ I think it depends on how much of an audiophile you are. If you really want the best of the best you're gonna need to spend a pretty penny, but I think for most people something like the Q990B/C/D already provide an amazing sound experience. Besides that I'm not willing to spend a lot more for sound. In fact I'll probably still be using my Q990B a decade from now.
@@thenonexistingheroya for me it’s all about movies, and watching a movie is about 50% picture and 50% sound, I’m just not convinced it’ll get much better then the Samsung, well I know they might be better but marginally and way more money
@@Kenny_Edmonton Not sure if it's 50/50 to me, but.. I have a pretty good TV (one of the best back when it came out), and I couldn't really get through movies easily. If I did watch them I would often watch them in 2 parts. Every since I got this soundbar I've had no issue getting through movies and I do feel like it really adds a whole lot for some movies (I probably would've considered A Quiet Place a bad movie if I didn't have this soundbar since the sound really makes that movie), but even for most other movies with decent sound direction it adds some immersion. Heck some low budget movies like Monsters of Man were really enjoyable as a result (I feel like the movie's pretty underrated, but if you have a good sound system I highly recommend it even just for that).
Thank you for this review. I was expecting a big more commentary about whether upgrading from Arc OG to Ultra makes a big difference in conjunction with Era 300 surrounds and Sub.
I own the ultra, 300s, with dual subs. It’s pretty great for a tv/movie setup. It wouldn’t be my choice if music is your main concern. I will say some spatial mixes for music sound really cool on it tho. Probably not for a music purist but it makes some music fun to listen to.
Im about to test out the new Sonos Firmware update. The last 6 months have made our lives hell owning their products. I have the Arc Ultra, 2 era300s and 2 gen 3 subs. What Sonos has done is so painful as a consumer that used to show off their system to eh dont want anyone to think i wasted my money. Im over the updates and will buy the Nakamichi shockwave wireless when it comes out to compare.
With the rumors around Sonos bringing out a streaming device, I wouldn’t be surprised if different sound profiles for music and TV/movies were only available for content streamed from the player.
I have a brand new LG OLED 55 C4. I am very impressed with the sound that comes out of this TV. I tried the S 95 LG sound bar system and was sorely disappointed by it and I took it back. I have this brand new Sonos system that’s the same as what you review here in this video. So all the latest greatest. I didn’t wanna set it all up if I didn’t at first like the sound bar. I’ve had a few moments where the sound totally dropped off and I couldn’t get it to work no matter what. That means the TV or the sound bar. And I have no idea what I did to get it to work, but it happened at least three times in about a three or four hour period as I’m trying to set up just the sound bar. I actually think my TV sounds as good as the sound bar and unfortunately you can’t mix and match once the sound bar is Connected Through the earc port. A lot of the sound options on the LG TV are great out and unusable with this sound bar connected. So I’m not sure if that’s an LG thing or a Sonos thing doing that but I didn’t like it. I’d be interested in knowing if that’s kind of a common occurrence Among Sonos and different TVs. I package the sound bar back up and I’m very tempted to take the whole system back before I open up all the other boxes. It’s a lot of money to spend and I’m just not sure the sound bar was any big improvement on its own anyway . I’m dictating this on an iPhone so I hope it comes out making sense as I’ve had to make a lot of corrections and I may miss a few. Do you think it’s worth me setting the whole system up even though I can take it back as long as it’s within the two week period to Best Buy. I just don’t feel this sound bar integrates well with the LG TV and I hate the app. I hate having to run TVs and sound systems and ring doorbells all through apps that are flooded with marketing stuff and make it very difficult to find the tools you need to set things up properly
Hey Caleb, is there any update on the new gen 990F. I’ve only heard rumors of Samsung making big changes since they partnered with eclipsa audio. What’s the scoop ?
You can use the era 300 with music if you make some adjustments in the app, I did it and now when I play music the sound from the era 300 is phenomenal and the soundbar makes no sound
@@xzivan ohhhh ok yea I been done that raise music level to plus 10 and maxed it out but it still only plays sound fron sides and top speaker not the front but it does definitely improve raising the volume on surrounds . It sounds great !!!
I hate having GAS...lol. Great video as always, but I keep telling myself that I am happy with my OG Arc, just need to add rears...I know I want the 300's, not sure if my wife will go for them, and would rather have the 100's, because they are cute. I looked only half my disc rips are TrueHD 7.1, such first world problems. Cheers from the jersey Shore.
this reconfirms my love for my arc ultra setup with 2 subs. cant beat 2 subs no matter what system. the sw5 also has many complaints about rattling noise when running at high volume - scared me off.
One thing with the price difference that’s significant to me, is that you can just buy the Arc Ultra and add on a sub or eras later at your convenience, with the quad you’re locked in spending way more money getting the whole kit. In the end if you add on and build your Sonos setup you’ll end up spending a similar amount, but you don’t have to blow the whole wad at once if you choose, it’s an option you don’t have with the Sony system.
Could you please do a review on the Samsung HW-Q800D system? There aren't many videos on it and I bet people would like to see a system a step below the Q990D. Would love to see how it performs overall and stacks up to competitors like the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) + a sub-mini/sub (Gen 3)?
I would like to see a comparison between that and the 990, since it’s not always easy to get rear speakers in a room and I would like to know if it’s worth trying to make it happen or if the 800 is sufficient. I know I’ll never really know from a review, without trying for myself, but it would be good to get some opinions on.
Thank you so much for this video!!! I really wanted someone to do a comparison of these two in particular so when I saw the title for the video, I was ecstatic 🙏 Edit: this video is very helpful as these two systems are the most probable next buy for me. Thank you for going over the music and the movie experience.
Kudos, yours is the only side to side comparison on these leading systems. Only one thing left for me, in the Sony control box, can I connect another atmos source device to the HDMI IN and keep the only other port available on my XL 90 for apple TV?
Great video as always! I just wanted to point out that you don’t get Dolby Atmos music from the Sonos system unless you use the Sonos App to use Apple Music. AirPlay is just regular stereo though the Era 300’s still contribute to a wider soundstage. I wish this wasn’t so as I still don’t like the new Sonos app but there it is.
How does the Sonos sound with DTS Audio on blu rays? Since it's not supported I think the Sony is the winner for that aspect since it natively supports DTS, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this! Great video!!
I'm no expert on Sonos by any means, but I think I recall hearing that if you were to play a DTS or DTS:X Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray as your source on a system using the Sonos devices for audio output they would simply down convert that DTS content to a regular 5.1 surround sound signal (with no object oriented sound placement ability in the presentation). This exact same issue also often comes up for those considering buying Samsung TVs as well as they do not support DTS or DTS:X either and customers wonder what happens when they are presented with a DTS/DTS:X source from either Blu-ray or a streaming service like Disney+. I believe the answer there is the same: the audio is simply down converted to a standard 5.1, channel-based presentation.
I have always been leery of sound bars since I experienced the lag issue with the one I did own in the past. Before you chime in, I assure you I had the optimum cables connected. Is the risk of lag still an issue?
I currently have the 990c that i’m pretty happy with, however I got a wall behind my couch and wanted to know if the Sony would offer better surround experience? I also wish it had more stereo soundstage that I assume the sony will provide based on placement alone.
I know Sony includes brackets for flush mounting. Will the Quads attach directly to my existing 1/4 20 mounts, or will I have to remove my old mounts and install the Sony bracket?
Went with Sonos and love it. Treble is rolled off yes but eq resolves this. Sub is so much better sonys need to release an updated sub to compliment the quads. Perhaps the new streaming box will allow sonos to implement front wides or extended L/R as this is one key area sony has the edge. Both are great units.
Matthew Robinson really rates the Sony Bravia Quad, but prefers the Sonos sub. Now if Sony had the good sense to open up their wireless subwoofer connection, which they could do easily, that means you would have a killer system if you could add a KEF K62 or even 92, a REL with wireless add on or a PSB subwoofer (which don't get enough press, yet they are amazing).
Definitely good value for money (the sweet spot IMO) but based on all the reviews I’ve seen it’s not as good as the other 2, which makes sense considering differing the price difference.
Other channels have done that exact comparison already and found essentially the same results. The Sony is more musical and far superior when it comes to creating an immersive experience for surround-enabled content.
I really enjoyed the video and believe I would choose the Sony as well. I am wondering if maybe using the smaller sub with the Sony would help with the blending some. I have the Klipsch Flexus Core 200 with the surrounds and the 10" sub. At times I would wonder if having the sub was even worth but trying some on and off testing I came to the conclusion it was worth it and just blending really well.
@@timowthie Good point about lowering the level on the sub, sometimes a simple decrease can make a huge difference. Awhile back I had the 7.2 Sony receiver STR-AN1000 that was the entry level to 360 Spacial Audio at the time but I just ran Onkyo subs with it never tried either of the Sony ones.
I have the Bravia Theater Quad in my gaming room and the Arc Ultra immersive set in my living room. I like the whole home audio of the Sonos better, but the stereo separation of the quad cannot be beat. I finally get why the home theater crowd constantly states that a good 2.1 beats a soundbar 5.1 any day. There is no replacement for proper stereo separation of the audio signal. However, I still think the Sonos wins.
In a world where JBL’s CBT lineup exists, no other speaker in the audio world really sways my heart anymore. The price to performance is unbeatable. Soundbars are convenient but physics is physics. There’s a hard limit on soundbars for fidelity vs volume. One of the CBT’s in the lineup is the 200la-1. Middle school geometry tells us that one of those mounted horizontally, will have 10.1ft of horizontal throw at a 10ft listening distance. Even more when you sit further away with unlimited vertical throw at any living room seating distance. Yet, it’s only 4” tall and can be beautifully mounted under any tv. Pair it with two CBT 70J-1’s and you now have an LCR that demolishes any soundbar, has more bass than any sound bar, and can be beautifully mounted on the wall with very limited intrusion into the room. Sure, that option requires a receiver to work. But they’re so efficient, you don’t have to buy a monster one. Just something simple. Sure, it’s far more expensive than either Sony or Sonos’s options but it’ll literally last a lifetime and will never be dependent on a computer to run them. They’re far simpler, far more reliable, paintable, and most importantly, they not only are some of the highest fidelity speakers around but will give you an entirely uncompromising experience.
I saw in the video that you have speaker stands for the Sony Quad, can you please share the brand and model? I need 2 stands for my rear speakers and I'm not sure what's compatible...
It may sound foolish to mix systems, but I am thinking Quad for the main living area, then Sonos soundbar for the bedrooms and maybe even an era 300 in the kitchen. A single system would be nice and simple. But to get better Audio in the main lounge is appealing.
Thanks for the comparison, Caleb :) However, I am wondering if you actually prefer the Sony Quads above a classical 5.1 set-up + AV-Receiver? I am personally would never buy such a "closed" system, as I am convinced that a classical setup (for the same price) is superior in terms of sound quality + single components can be upgraded / repaired / replaced at any time without the need to buy a complete new system
I've not heard the quad but when I tested the a9000 with sw5 vs Sonos arc with sub mini I would with Sonos. Sound quality was close but bass sounded soo much cleaner on the Sonos sub
Music is very important to me and I did start with a pair of ERA 300s then added the ultra and a sub mini. Love the sound, but as you say you - better with Trueplay off. Isn’t the Sonos ‘louder’ db wise even though purity is important. Cavernous large open room vaulted ceiling here…
I thought it was really good. However, up in seattle where do i go to find the ability to listen to both. I am looking at upgrading my Arc and Gen 3 sub. Looking forward to your next reviews.
Question, I am running the Kef ls 60 with a kc62 right now. Is there a way to describe the difference in music performance to the Sonys? Because I am thinking of downsizing everything a bit but don‘t want to decrease Audio performance too hard. Thank you in advance
After watching the video, I'm not any closer to deciding. I have a few Sonos speakers already, including a pair of Era 300s I use as my music system in my living room (bought of the back of Caleb's video on them). I don't want to use them only as surrounds and I don't like the sight of a soundbar while watching TV. But would it be stupid to have the Bravia quads for TV/movies and keep using the Era 300s for music? With the Era 300s I can listen to lossless Apple Music, which I really like and can hear the difference.
Is there a solution for a HDMI switch and (e)ARC? I turned to optical but that doesnt carry the Dolby Atmos signal. Apparently if you use an HDMI switch ARC doesnt work..
I read somewhere Sony may be launching new Sub(s) in March/April. Very interested to see if this is true, and what they come up with. Hopefully the new Sub(s) will be a step up to better match the Sonos Subs. I'm very tempted to get myself a Quad system. Was looking at the Sonos system a lot but got put of due to the lack of DTS (actually not sure why I NEED it tho) and also Sonos app issues etc. Also, my better halv prefers the look of the Quad speakers as they are a bit smaller and can be "put away" as she so nicely says it. Thanks for a great review! Although I would personally have prefered more about Movie/Surround/Atmos than Stereo
I’ve tried both systems as an upgrade for my Klipsch The Fives, and while the surround effect was amazing, the sound quality was a definite downgrade (which thinking about it, make sense because of physics and the sheer size differences of the speakers). I’d say the Sony/Sonos setups sounds like improved TV speakers (comparable with bluetooth speakers) spread out in your room as opposed to the Klipsch that sounds like good (though stereo) quality speakers.
I really appreciate how you give the different pros cons based on whats important to our particular setup. Not just which you think is better.

I just didn't want a soundbar under the TV ruining the aesthetic of the room. The sound is unreal and the speakers look very discreet.
Merry Christmas Charlie Brown. and dont call me Shirley. LMAO
Theater Quad is next on my list for Acquisition....
Happy quad owner here. Can't beat the ease of setup with the separation. Although, I did mod my system so I'm using a third party ELAC RS500 subwoofer. :)
How did you mod the system to add a third party subwoofer?
@@3cmoneyHi, my friend made me a mod box that basically he has taken out the pcb from the SW3 and mounted it into a box and padded down the amp output to speaker level inputs to feed my Elac RS500 sub.
Sony then just thinks a SW3 is connected but obviously can use any sub or even a splitter to use dual subs. Went with the Elac as it had built in calibration and room correction.
I’m not finding it, can you provide the link? Thanks
Before without the Apple TV, the Sam QN90C doesn’t play atmos music 🎉
One thing I learned from Ealan was the Sony Theater quad, the atmos only really comes in as a X.x.2 sound field. Not really the full .4 Atmos processing. 🎉
I bought the Sonos system and I’m really happy with. The Sonos sub being better than the Sony was a big point. I’ve read some complaints on it. The Sony quads would have been difficult to setup in my room.
Got the Quad coming tomorrow with sub and listening to this I made a good choice. Single room, medium sized. The Sony system should do just fine
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Thanks Caleb & Andrew on the Sonos treatment of sound
All your reviews are the best Caleb, and Digital Trends media does a great job of bringing your vision and voice to life.
How is the new firmware update?
With the rumors around Sonos bringing out a streaming device, I wouldn’t be surprised if different sound profiles for music and TV/movies were only available for content streamed from the player.
I have the Quad and SW5 in my living room and thr Arc ultra and sub4 in my room. Best of both worlds!
Finally some audio content! Excellent video as always
You can use the era 300 with music if you make some adjustments in the app, I did it and now when I play music the sound from the era 300 is phenomenal and the soundbar makes no sound
What did you do? Just disconnected from surrounds and pair as stereo?
@ go to settings, Sound from sorrund, and +15 in music
Thanks Caleb. Seamless sub integration wins it for me. Dual subs make it even better.
I have the Arc Ultra 2fives for surrounds and 2 Gen 4 subs and the sound is unmatched
this reconfirms my love for my arc ultra setup with 2 subs. cant beat 2 subs no matter what system.
the sw5 also has many complaints about rattling noise when running at high volume - scared me off.
Great comparison and review. Looking forward to more audio/HT content 👍🏼
Looking forward to the 5.1 wireless Brand not sure what of, but I think it is , , to come out this year ?
Should I upgrade to the Sony Theatre Quad? Coming from an entry-level Klipsch Reference 5.1.2 setup. A95L
You already have a great system. No need to upgrade
Thank you so much for this video!!! I really wanted someone to do a comparison of these two in particular so when I saw the title for the video, I was ecstatic 🙏
Edit: this video is very helpful as these two systems are the most probable next buy for me. Thank you for going over the music and the movie experience.
Kudos, yours is the only side to side comparison on these leading systems. Only one thing left for me, in the Sony control box, can I connect another atmos source device to the HDMI IN and keep the only other port available on my XL 90 for apple TV?
Really really really EXCELLENT comparation review!!
!!!!Thanks Caleb!!!!
I think to assess music, you should have used the Sonos App as it might give an extra advantage like lossless audio
Caleb, what were your complete settings for the Sonos with dual subs while watching movies and TV…
Simply put......thank you, Caleb. Fantastic content 👏♥️
Loved it, made it easier for me to decide.
Sad not to see a Samsung Q990 series product in this comparison. I am totally biased but it just has such great value for money and wonderful sound.
😂 Good joke!
I’ve been waiting for this one. Thank you.
Brothers Johnson , good sounds ❤️🙏🏴
I really enjoyed the video and believe I would choose the Sony as well. I am wondering if maybe using the smaller sub with the Sony would help with the blending some. I have the Klipsch Flexus Core 200 with the surrounds and the 10" sub. At times I would wonder if having the sub was even worth but trying some on and off testing I came to the conclusion it was worth it and just blending really well.
@@fozzyrinker313 smaller sony sub isnt bad. Bit more boomy tho. But i think lowering the base level of the big sub would also help blend it in more
@@timowthie Good point about lowering the level on the sub, sometimes a simple decrease can make a huge difference. Awhile back I had the 7.2 Sony receiver STR-AN1000 that was the entry level to 360 Spacial Audio at the time but I just ran Onkyo subs with it never tried either of the Sony ones.
the brothers johnson Caleb, I love it👍
Did you ever review the jbl 1300x?
Hi Caleb, do you think the music audio challenges compared to the Sony can be mitigated via software updates on Sonos?
so in other words the era 300s cant produce audio when listening to music in a full setup?
That sucks
The do, they just produce very little when music is sourced via HDMI vs. wireless music playback. Even when their levels are maxed out
@@digitaltrendsso how avoid this ? Use as stereo pair and not as surrounds?
Is there a review of the Ultra coming? 👀 As usual, thanks for the top quality reviews/content!
Fantastic comparison. Thank you Caleb.
I saw in the video that you have speaker stands for the Sony Quad, can you please share the brand and model? I need 2 stands for my rear speakers and I'm not sure what's compatible...
Great job. Very helpful review!
Thanks for watching!
Sony ❤
Will you review the Theatre Bar 9 at any point?
It may sound foolish to mix systems, but I am thinking Quad for the main living area, then Sonos soundbar for the bedrooms and maybe even an era 300 in the kitchen. A single system would be nice and simple. But to get better Audio in the main lounge is appealing.
so glad "hear" some audio gears comparison :D
Thanks for the comparison, Caleb :) However, I am wondering if you actually prefer the Sony Quads above a classical 5.1 set-up + AV-Receiver? I am personally would never buy such a "closed" system, as I am convinced that a classical setup (for the same price) is superior in terms of sound quality + single components can be upgraded / repaired / replaced at any time without the need to buy a complete new system
@Digital Trends : do you think the quad is better than the ht-a9? and what are the reasons . thanks
They are not, because of their size. They sound toy like in comparison to the A9.
Bigger space between the speaker cones makes a huge difference too.
@Justmeandmy20cents in glad to hear that. Do you own both?
With the Sonos tv box rumor, you’ll be able to do 4 era 300s or 4 Fives for surround sound…
If you can’t add surrounds, which is better, a Sonos arc ultra with sub 4 or sennheiser plus with sub?
I've not heard the quad but when I tested the a9000 with sw5 vs Sonos arc with sub mini I would with Sonos. Sound quality was close but bass sounded soo much cleaner on the Sonos sub
Hey Caleb, did you play Apple music atmos through the Sonys? I really like that system?
Music is very important to me and I did start with a pair of ERA 300s then added the ultra and a sub mini. Love the sound, but as you say you - better with Trueplay off. Isn’t the Sonos ‘louder’ db wise even though purity is important. Cavernous large open room vaulted ceiling here…
holy! been waiting for exactly this! I love my Sony Bravia Theatre Quad esp for music
Can Apple music now send lossless via airplay without having to use the Sonos App now?
I thought it was really good. However, up in seattle where do i go to find the ability to listen to both. I am looking at upgrading my Arc and Gen 3 sub. Looking forward to your next reviews.
Great channel thanks for sharing 🙏
Question, I am running the Kef ls 60 with a kc62 right now. Is there a way to describe the difference in music performance to the Sonys? Because I am thinking of downsizing everything a bit but don‘t want to decrease Audio performance too hard. Thank you in advance
Would really love to see a Sennheiser vs. Nubert flagship soundbar review.
Great video! Thanks Caleb!
How you feel about Quads vs dragon for movies/cinema?
Sorry if you ever did a video on this and I haven’t seen
Although I would personally have prefered more about Movie/Surround/Atmos than Stereo
great review brother
Great video. We need more comparisons, sony vs a traditional stereo system similarly price
@@lorenzomarco99 I mean, the Fives are legit speakers. I’m not surprised you find them to be superior from a sound quality perspective
