Essentially that specific verse reads something like “oh people from my land, I just now realized that the sadness I carry comes from you”. There’s a saying in Portugal that says that to sing fado you have to have had great sadness in your life. So in a way, she’s saying to the audience that her strength, her sadness, comes from them.
Somehow that resonated in that live performance and both the audience and band supported her as she recovered and regained her “strength”.

"Oh people of my land" is a tribute to the land of melancholy, longing and saudade! The singer and the audience are so moved because they share the Portuguese experience "destiny that chains us all".
"When you hear the groans of a guitar singing," it's like the melody is calling you home and "you could almost see it as a lullaby, but it's really agony".
"This sadness that I bring with me, I inherited from all of you", is a reference to the melancholy at the heart of the Portuguese people and that is inherited from our ancestors ... the men who lost their lives at sea, the lonely women waiting at the altar , the shattered children, the emigrants ... This music embodies this feeling that all Portuguese can relate to and that is part of our core being.

I was born 719 kms up north from her birthplace. Curiously, almost my age too. She's a phenomenal singer and always looks wonderful. And as others have said, being away from home or our adopted land carries a lot of emotions. Mariza knows and feels this, for sure.

Hi my friend and thank you for helping sharing portuguese culture. ❤
I want to talk about what this music and many others means to portuguese ppl. I dont know ir you already made some research about our history. But i will give you some details that can help you understand all this feeling about our ppl. We are not more valuable than others, or worse , but we are diferent for sure 😊 We were "born" in 1139 , yah...15 years from now we will have 900 yo ( shit...we are old) . Anyway, my point is, like in any other country, there was alot of fights. With our "Spanish brothers" we have centuries of batles because of land and power. The oldest borders in Europe are the ones that we have with nowadays Spain. In the XIV century we look to the see and said:" you will be ours" and indeed it becamed ours!(we were in all continents) But with great loss of sailors, and broken dreams of young woman that saw their man going to never see them again in many cases. That feeling of not knowing about your loved one, ir you will ever see him again, when will you see him again, that incertanty daily, looking to the horizon trying to see a glimpse of a Caravel, everyday. Thats " SAUDADE" , the feeling of FADO and all true portuguese ppl that knows a litle bit of our history feels. So, it's 600 years of this feeling, dont expect to understand it with just 1 or 2 music pieces...you have to understand 900 years of PORTUGAL and portuguese ppl to get it. Once you do that, even without understanding a word in portuguese, you will understand why she is crying.
Fun fact: this show was at the end of her world tour, in Lisbon. It was the only time during all tour that she cryed. Singing to her ppl. 😊
I hope you understand a litle bit better all the emition that you can see in it.
From a metalhead to another...Big love and respect from Portugal 🤘😎

Hello, thank you for making this reaction to one of the best fado singers in Portugal today, there are many more good singers since fado is Portugal's culture.
I ask that you react to this Fado with a rock band, since you like rock, thank you. ( Noidz - Estranha Forma de Vida - ua-cam.com/video/VkWu4LKEDn8/v-deo.html )
