You have to respect the company for saying “they are always trying to improve”. It’s great they read the comments, also. I started with ink, but later used pencil …now I may use both, or may not. LOL This piece is darker than your usual. My art also ALWAYS shows my mood. I honestly don’t see how it couldn’t. As always, Pete, great video. We are very lucky to have you out there working for us and helping us in so many ways. Thank YOU.
Thank you Denise! I appreciate your constant support and I'm glad to hear that these videos help to inspire. I'm the lucky one. I have the privilege of meeting so many great people and a few who are so grumpy they just make me laugh. 🙂
Paul Ruben's is doing what Ohuhu is doing in the alcohol marker world: actively working with artists to provide what they're looking for. I love to see it!
It's great to see you interacting with your audience Pete. I liked this video and reminded me of a good tag on the side of a train (I say that with much respect because I love that work). Thanks for posting this video.
I enjoyed this lesson on Layering, and I believe it’s not that dark-I like the splashes of bright color mixed with the darker-and this looks like the storm has passed and soon we’ll see some sun. I also believe it’s important to let companies know what you think about their products, and it’s even more wonderful when they respond!
I love to hear people say there's no one way to do things. You gave great examples of different approaches and they're all equally valid. So refreshing. I use pencil to start, but am trying to go ink first to stop the overthinking. Also work from light to dark with watercolors. Many layers as well. It's cool to see how the underlayers affect the top layers so drastically with transparent colors.
I'm glad you enjoyed this. I am a firm believer that everyone needs to find how they work best and experiment with new ways as you can to see if you can add to your process. With all the different ways that can come together, how could there be only one way? 🙂
This is something like what I've been wanting to play with. My background is doodling. Zentangle like... But I love ink on top of watercolor. And I love the shading you can easily add to water color with either colored pencils or watercolor pencils.
Thanks for explaining your layering process. As for the actual painting, at around the 8 minute mark I saw a pier with its support structure and a red wave crashing into the pier. Nice abstraction.
that was a good response. hr must have hired excellent pr for them. it's interesting, darker than your norm, but i like the textures and the bright two toned red. it's as if light is coming through the holes. i have learned alot from ten years of youtube. i think i was a bit stagnant for the decades before i could see other people at work. i think i mostly start from light o dark but sometimes i start in the middle and fade it out towards the edges.
I subbed and I have some experience with PR watercolor and paper. I don't currently use them but I am considering the glitter metal set as they are quite popular and I enjoy popping some shimmer on my work. I have an illustrative style myself and love doing abstracts and using the flow of pigments to create...QOR! I love great flow! I have 23 of their colors to date. Great Artwork and I am glad you expressed your truth in the midst of a difficult time. I can relate. The details might even astonish you, Lol 🤣 but anyway thanks for being entertaining while I stop fighting sleep and get some so I can travel all day for a 15 minute appointment 😅 tomorrow 🎉🎉
Okay now that I have finished my first cup of coffee and poured my second I have enough brain power to comment on your video lol. It is 3:00 a.m. here in Phoenix which is about my normal time to get going so I know that sounds crazy. What you said today resonates so heavily with me. I am a professional artist when it comes to pencil and acrylic and once upon a Time oils. In spite of that I will always consider myself a student of every medium and every genre of art shall we say. You are one of the few people that I turn to for knowledge. I think that this painting being what you consider to be a little bit darker is actually an amazing thing. When I use watercolor my emotions shows and I have found that to be true with many great artists including the Masters. There are a few paint companies that I desperately wish that I could try but due to some extreme health issues that have arisen for me last year and this year we are just financially unable to buy anything art supplies. One of the companies that I wish that I could try is Paul Reubens I would love to try their 4th and 5th generation paints and there are a few colors from their earlier generations that I understand are amazing. This past Thursday was my birthday and I had won a drawing for a 12 set of erosa gallery mono pigmented set earlier in the month. I was so happy when they arrived on my birthday. So that has given me the opportunity to try their paint. I hope to someday become on the radar for companies like Paul Reubens and any of the other companies that make lovely paints. I'm hoping that by the end of this year I will be able to pick up a set of pigment fineliners to play with again but for now I'm happy to work with what I have language that other people understood that you can find peace and enjoyment in the things that the Lord provides you including every piece of art that you create.
Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad I can provide some inspiration for you. I wouldn't wait for a company to reach out to you. They all have customer service departments and many times are very willing to send out some free samples. I've received watercolor paper, pastels, and a couple tubes of paint from different brands in the past just for asking. I've also received some samples from stores like Blick when I was trying to choose between brands of pastel pencils. Ask, all they can say is no.
Pretty cool drawing Pete - feels like I am at the edge of an abyss. As for layers - as you know me, layers are fun as long as I have the right ink for it :D.
Good morning Pete. I wanted to give you an information comment before I go in and make a comment about your video. I did some research on the Derwent ink tents because I have the 12 set and wondered what I could use in professional pieces. I learned that the yellow-orange, orange, reds and fuchsia are fugitive. However, the other Hues in their 12 set are lightfast. I just wanted to share that information with you from One professional artist to another.
I have all the LF numbers but you need to double check them every so often because they change based on newer tests they perform. I found that out the hard way.
I love it!! Question. The darker orange/brown derwent intense pencil you used at the bottom of the orange section (it looked like sienna)… what was the name of the color? I want one!
@@IllustrationsByPete Fantastic, Thanks! I have a fascination with burnt sienna, burnt orange, quinacridone rust and now Qor Benzimidazole burnt orange that I picked up after watching you swatch it 🙃

I have to give them credit for trying and continually renewing their line. 👍🏻

Absolutely, go for it! Maybe mix the two together and add some patterns into your watercolor. 👍🏻
Oh, I love the result!!!! Fantastic!!!!
Thank you Linda! I'm glad you like it. It grew on me. 🙂
Layering is so fun, and really does contribute to one’s personal touch and style. Well done! Great feedback from Paul Ruben’s company. Had to edit 🥹🫣
Thank you Lori! I agree.👍🏻

Yes, I will mainly go from light to dark with layers but when I paint full strength I do the opposite and washout areas. 👍🏻

Thank you! QoR are my go to right now. I love to watch them dance across the water. I hope you have a great day! 🙂
@@IllustrationsByPete yeah QOR are my favorite brand and I am looking at the White Nights 21: granulating set. It's in my cart for next payday!
Those are great also. I'd love to hear how you like them. 👍🏻

They are beautiful colors. Definitely some of my favorites too. 👍🏻
I love the effect of layering but never have the patience so I tend to end up with like 2 layers
Nothing wrong with that. 😂
that's where we dropping the ring them hobbits brought out right?
Could be. 😂
