A pleasure to watch
I used to read about these matches as a 1970s and 1980s kid. My stepfather arrived back in Milton Keynes from a double glazing job London with a large suitcase full of MUFC match programs and gave them to me. Almost every home match program for every season from the mid 1950s until the mid 1970s.
Old Trafford had been destroyed by Nazi bombers during the war, so MUFC were playing at City's ground Maine Road. I had complete seasons of programs from not long after returning to Old Trafford, the Busby Babe years and Munich Disaster, the European Cup victory, Busby's retirement, relegation to the old Division Two, and then promotion back to Division One.
We moved to NZ in 1985, so the parents said I had to sell them in the jumble sale they had before flying out. I think the collection would be worth quite a few bob now. Oh well. Can't win them all.
P.S. Having lived through the post Busby slump, I expected a post Fergie one too. I think most old school MUFC supporters did. His retirement left a massive hole in the organization. The Glazers have still not worked out how to repair it. I am not sure they know how. It's like they thought they could keep milking Fergie's success after the retirement. Throwing money at the problem hoping for a return on investment, instead of correctly assessing the situation and doing things properly. They have failed as stewards of our club; so far at least (not that I see any reasons for optimism, but maybe Jim can).
This season was the best of this team. By the time they won the European cup they were on the way down. Sad that they didn't win the European cup this year because they were fabulous. But as we know, so often the best team doesn't always win the cup.
Great game by Utd there, the dog on the pitch made me chuckle, that didn't look and sound an easy to pitch to play on.

So nostalgic….and typical overcast Saturday - heavy pitches and very working class. United were fantastic then.
Four nil down late in the game and you have an 18 year old George Best running at your defence.
