I don't know if you've seen BABYMETAL live yet, but you will probably need to see them in Japan to catch the "Kamis from the East" supporting them.
All of the US and European shows in 2019 and 2020 have had the "Kamis from the West".
"I'm so confused. It's MetalAF but cute too." That's exactly what their producer, Kobametal, who came up with this new Metal genre - Kawaii (Cute) Metal, wanted. I saw Sabbath in 1976 and Babymetal in February and they are the most refreshing new form of Metal I've seen in the 44 years between those two performances. Try 'Headbanger' ( ua-cam.com/video/YjjWZpf_jSs/v-deo.html ) from the same concert as this video or 'Catch Me If You Can' ( ua-cam.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/v-deo.html ), live at Budokan (the best Metal song ever about playing Hide and Seek!), which comes with a set of 4 solos from their 2 guitarists, bassist and drummer, who make up The Kami Band. Or, in English, The God Band, rightly named as they are exceptionally skilled Metal musicians that play the music for our Metal Queen Su and her angel demon ninja sidekicks, Yui and Moa; this version has English subtitles too.
No other band will make you headbang, smile with joy and occasionally shed a tear (sometimes all in the same song) like Babymetal can. The huge audiences, the production, sound engineering, lighting and awesome Metal band are as good as any major act has - if not a whole lot better - is just a showcase for these 3 girls and their incredible choreography and performance skills and, of course, for Su's strong soprano vocals (C4 to G#5 range). They are Japan top musicians with 2 guitarists (check out their solo shredding), 1 bass player (6 strings) and a super tight drummer. Good reaction, sorry I'm late, but that has saved you one of my walls of text as I'm sure you'll have been told everything I might have said already. The fact that you were appreciative of what 'Gimme Chocolate' is bodes very well for if you watch more of their videos - it is the last one I would recommend to a metalhead, especially a musician, for their first time seeing and especially hearing them.
You already have some excellent suggestions for more songs so I'll just wait to see what you do next.
Whenever you see the band with these costumes, they're not real musicians, but actors with a backing track on top. The real band wears white cloaks and corpse paint. That's the Kami band. @@DimitarK I fully agree with the 2 songs recommended in this conversation! Both songs, "Akatsuki at Budokan Black Night", and "Rondo of Nightmare at Budokan Black Night 2014" are in my top 3 favorite BABYMETAL songs (out of 50+ songs) due to the band's excellent playing and Su-metal's, the lead singer, wonderful singing.
White or black robes and now space masks. I hope they never use a uniform that in any way resembles an skeleton.
@@DimitarK - That is the studio track over a live performance anyways. Those drums are probably programmed? You should watch 'Headbanger' live at Legend of 1997. Their actual drummer is great. If you want to see a cool stage show check out 'Babymetal Death' live at Legend of 1997. It was the finale of the concert and they did a special performance of it. It's usually an intro song. Legend of 1997 is the concert in the video. Su was born in 1997. It's her birthday.
Live shows are always best, but the MV of Megitsune and Karate are excellent. You want heavy listen to Babymetal Death. This was 2013 the day after Su's 16th birthday. The Kami band Takayoshi Ohmura guitar, Miko Fujoka guitar, BOH bass, Aoyana Hideki drums usually wear white death robes, there is alot of Japanese lore, the Fox god etc. The studio musicians are not mentioned in the credits who you hear on this version.
The musicians in this video are not musicians. They are pretending. At this point, Babymetal did not have a live band but sang and danced to recorded music. They were original songs just not played live. The real band came later and get a ton of respect from fans. They are all aware of how incredible the Kami band is.
I love Babymetal. Its done so well. It's weird but not for the sake of being weird. It's a seriously thought out creation of a new genre.

This concert (Legend 1997) marked the official transition from idol group to live metal act. It started with the most pop idol performance of the dubstep version of Headbanger and ended with the Kami Band reprising the song later fully live. Babybones was officially retired and Su was "reborn" in the BABYMETAL DEATH show closer. The show was pretty important thematically for BABYMETAL lore and they did a good job emphasizing this transition. The show opened with all three girls in pristine white cloaks emphasizing innocence, and ended with them all chanting DEATH to very evocative dark metal imagery (I won't spoil it in case DimitarK is reading).
Serious, Passionate, Hard Work Ethic, Perfection. These are the guiding principals and beliefs of Babymetal. When the veteran musicians were selected to play the live shows, the creator of Babymetal (Kei Kobayashi - Kobametal) told them not to hold back! The girls kept up with them note for note. The musicians were so impressed with the girls' live performances, stamina, professionalism, and humility. From then on the girls have been the inspiration for them to work harder. The girls and musicians feed off one another's energy!
Great reaction man! The Babybones will _never_ be forgotten. In all seriousness though, you have already been told about the role they played in the earlier days of BABYMETAL and how their actual live backing band (Kami Band) are greatly appreciated and revered by the fans. Even when they toured the U.S. last year with a completely different rotation backing them, fans went out of their way to quickly find out who each of them were.
It is true that, since they are not "official" members of this group, the band does often get overlooked from a promotional standpoint. However, for me (and I think for many fans), the Kami Band have become just as much an integral part of BABYMETAL as the girls.
They got the recognition alot (the musicians), BabyMetal is a project, gathering all the best of the best of their own best at and packed it into one.

2014 sonisphere uk concert. They were supposed to be on a side stage and they then got put on the front stage. In front of thousands upon thousands of metal heads who had no idea, mostly, who BABYMETAL was. By the time they were finished the crowd was yelling more more more! I heard their merchandise sold out.
This is the hardest, most polarizing song to enter the BABYMETAL galaxy by.
BABYMETAL - ROAD OF RESISTANCE, is closer to the groups ultimate form.
Then to see the Kami band take the spotlight watch BABYMETAL - RONDO OF NIGHTMARE with Mischiefs of Gods intro. It will blow you away!

Great reaction and thoughts. This was performed the day after Su's 16 Birthday for the MV had studio over the live performance .The band where mining . Su was live and real band the Kamis came on for i believe a 5 song encore . I will be corrected if wrong .

The concert started off with the "Baby Bones" miming playing instruments, including this song, but the live Kami Band finished the show with a five song encore.
Of course their backing band is always the live Kami Band these days.

I am totally with you when you said the background instruments players deserve more credit. I listen to various types of music from all genres including jpop and jrock and although I love those cute girls singing and dancing I sometimes wish I could see more of the band members performing with more spotlight.
They are amazing musicians with lots of talent and they are all good looking peeps too. Too bad they always wear those ghostly costumes that cover their faces. I would like to hear them do something more hardcore death metal in the future if they are up for it! Amazing band!

I've been in that Babymetal moshpit (a lot of the time turns into a circlepit) and I'll repeat what a journalist from a metal magazine said about Babymetal at Sonisphere: I've never seen so many smiling metal heads at the same time. What is amazing at a Babymetal show you can find a 6 year old on the shoulders of a dad and next to them a 60+ year old metalhead with metal patches on his jacket. Very diverse crowd, in every way. I've seen a statistic from Japan, almost 1/3 of the fans is girls/ladies. It's pretty hard to find metal bands with that ratio is my guess...
Their is a lot of things that were already mentioned that I won't repeat, but I can add some details:
This was actually the last big show were the "Babybones" performed. Al though we've seen them even in recent shows as helpers for the audience not as 'musicians'.
I see recommendations for Road of Resistance, I would also suggest: Akatsuki Budokan and Rondo of Nightmare Budokan and Ijime,Dame,Zettai at Sonisphere 2014, UK. Babymetal Karate at Download, UK 2016. You get a much better look at the musicians that way.
The reason the studio audio was used is so they could quickly release the song as a MV, someone just needs to do a quick edit to make it line up. A recent MV was one day after the performance, someone worked overtime ! :-)
For their proper DVD/Blu-ray.release they take their time, months. Comes out with nice packaging, etc. In the meantime a preliminary edit is broadcasted on WOWOW pay TV channel. Leaving out some things people would still want to buy the Blu-ray for. :-)
I feel like the girls give the guys on the instuments the chance to be accepted in front of a mainstream crowd on such a great stage even so metal often dont get the chance even if its good. They are awesome and can let it all out, delivering for the metal fans and getting recognition through the mainstream and idol fans in japan and international. I think that they are happy to see their music beeing loved by this passionate crowd :D

Nice reaction. In this performance, the guys in skeleton outfits aren't the actual musicians, just dancers. This is one of the last concerts where they still used studio audio on a backing track. For the encore that night, and at all performances after, they have a real band with them called the Kamiband, who are even more impression than the studio musicians. You should check out "Headbanger" from "Legend of 1997" to see what that encore looked like.

The guys from Dragonforce were on this album on "Road of Resistance" and brought them on stage when one of the big festivals refused to sign them in Europe. The guitar player that toured with them after they dropped these fakers was Takiasha Ohmura who was in Marty Friedmans little group. The bass player BOH is amazing and second guitarist Mikio Fujioka passed away after a fall from an observatory is one you should look up for his very stellar jazz style play.

The kami band is not forgotten, we love them just as much as the girls, try and watch an song with one of their intros like rondo of nightmare or yava (both with the intro) . Thank you for you video, reaction and open mindness.
It is always good to get a musicians take on this band although this is not a great example of songs for that. It is important to know that the studio tracks are performed by un
named studio musicians who are not the same as the ones who perform live with the exception of one track where I believe one of their live guitarists did record and of course Road of Resistance which had Hermin and Sam from Dragonforce on the studio version, also a many live videos on UA-cam have gone through a lot of post production and the band gets cut out in favour of the girls, videos taken from the full concert dvds usually show the band a lot more and the sound hasn’t been messed with as much
I'll give a thumbs up and sub.. Not everyone is TOTALLY sold on Babymetal after Gimme Chocolate. Check out more. A lot of people say you can't mix cute and metal. I'm sure after the first people to put peanut butter and chocolate together, there were some that said that won't work, but it does....it just does.😊

Thanks for reacting to BABYMETAL: however, if you're judging this from a drummer's perspective..... this is not the best song to react to for several reasons:
1) The video is genuine concert footage but the audio is not live, it's the studio track overdubbed .
2) The guys in the skeleton suits are just actors miming to a backing track. At the time of this concert (2013), BABYMETAL were just starting to phase in the use of actual musicians, so this show was 50/50 fake band/real band (you can see their instruments standing ready at the back of the stage)...... only the girls' vocals were genuinely live throughout.
3) The drums on the studio track are not real. they're actually computer programmed!!!!

Their songs always have a story to be told. This is about girls watching their weight even though they love chocolate.
Also, their choreographer is Mikiko Mizuno, the best in Japan. Mikiko was also supposed to choreograph the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2020 Summer Olymics in Jana, which cancelled by Covid.

You should watch Rondo of nightmare with mischief of gods intro. The musicians get more credit in that one. You should enjoy it, plus it is one of Babymetal's darkest songs.

Even though this is just the actual studio recording playing over a video of a live show, the live shows did have live vocals for Sumetal (The vocalist) at these shows, but the band was completely fake (Skeleton band). Would highly recommend Tales of the Destinies! It's from the same album as Karate! It doesn't have a video though but you won't regret it!

But we worry about our weight. But its just a bit of chocolate. But wait a while. But chocolate. Yes! We'll work hard, so give us just a bit of chocolate! Please! Lol. Your reaction is actually what a lot of people have when watching this video as their first video: "WTF am I watching...and why am I so happy while watching it?!" This is not the video most fans would suggest as the first video because it was their most controversial when it came out. The band itself isn't as controversial as they were back in 2013-14-15 when they started touring and becoming popular on their own outside of the idol group they were originally a part of. They have won over so many people who were hesitant to listen to them through sheer perseverance, determination, talent, intelligence, and giving 110% every performance.
As for this video in general, it is unfortunately not a true live performance. It has the video, but the audio is the studio track over the performance video. Many of their "music videos" are like this, but most of their songs you can find a live version that is excellent. The best parts of their music are that the band plays so much harder live, the girls go all out in every show for over an hour, and none of their songs sound the same as the previous. The never wanted to be a gimmick or pigeonholed to one sound, so they have experimented with all of them and had solid success each time!

These guys aren't playing ... After this they were replaced with real musicians live. In fact during this set. Several musicians are switched out over time and at times show to show depending on availability. On the last tour the guys from Galactic Empire were the Kami band.
Near the end of 2014 BOH (6-string bass), one of the kamiband members, said in a magazine interview that he was not concerned about whether they (kamiband) were getting the recognition they should get. He said this was because he was aware the fans knew the names of all of the kamiband members.
Also in this interview BOH relayed that the first requirement of the kamiband was to be technical, the producer also told them to nevermind that they are Idols, nevermind that they are girls, just play as loud and heavy as you can.
I friggin' love BOH! All the Kami's get it and never held back, but I appreciate him the most because he seems to be the biggest showman of all the Kami's. That isn't to say the others aren't showmen, but BOH is the one you always notice first (or did before the stupid masks got put on them) with the bald head having extra flair paint, he moves around like Flea from RHCP bouncing from one leg to the other, he'll be the first to do hand motions to the crowd to hype them up and tell them to get louder. He just 100% gets it and bought into the entire thing immediately and it shows.

When you see the guys in the skeleton suits, there is no live band. They're called baby bones and we're used before they adopted a live band, they're just "air guitaring" so to speak. This video is a studio track. Not to take anything away from their band, they're amazing, this however is not a LIVE performance.
