  • We now have a new wall mount garage door motor in the industry. Guardian's 928 wall mount motor is a great piece of tech. It offers some features that I believe puts them ahead of the curve in this category. The only challenge to this motor is finding where to buy it.

    I like the idea of the led light built in the opener but what happens when the light fails (and led lights do fail). It be better if it allowed bulb replacement

    Problem with built in light is your shining the light up in the corner of your garage above the garage door (basically everywhere you don’t need light), an additional accessory allows you to put the light where you want it or need it.

      Yup. Great when the door is down but once up, you'll see nothing.

    I'm interested to see how this machine performs in the long run. I'm one of those who has had a bad experience with Guardian. I've had 2 broken belts and 3 board failures (all the GDS labeled machines), so it makes me very leery of Guardian as a whole. They do come up with some cool features though, like Bluetooth speakers integrated into the power head, the backup battery with a light bar (considering no one else has operator lights when mains power is out), and I agree with you on this built in light. But, as an OHD tech, I like that our safety beams don't have permanently attached wires - I find that to be a failure point with LMs and Linears. I like that our side mount can work all door types without a cable tension monitor. I like not having to run wire for a wall console (especially when the garage was pre wired for a trolley motor). I think Guardian is on the right path, but I think it's going to take more time, and a better feature set than just an internal light, to win dealers over. But I've already seen some LM dealers looking for better options with how LMs quality and retail vs dealer pricing have gone recently, so maybe this could be a persuasive enough machine to make them choose Guardian.
    I hope this is a sign of Guardian's improvement, because competition in our residential operator market is always a good thing.
    This is a very well made video!

      Thanks for some specific, helpful observations. I've felt like I've been out-in-the-wilderness with my complaints re: my Guardian ceiling-mount motor and sensor system - which has caused me nothing but aggravation for several years. So to read similar problems, especially experienced by someone working in the industry, has been uplifting (no pun intended). I'm getting a new Premium Clopay partly insulated door put up in a few days, so I'm researching which new motor to have installed at the same time. So your comments were timely and I agree that it will take more than "...just an internal light, to win new dealers over. But...I hope this is a sign of Guardian's improvement, because competition in our residential operator market is always a good thing."

      @@ttaylor5847 My recommendations are Genie, Overhead Door, Linear, Marantec, and Sommer. I used to have LiftMaster on that list, but they’ve been plagued with various issues over the last year or so. I just took out one of LM’s side mounted motors that we installed a couple months ago due to electronics issues.

    Thank you for making a video on this 928. I remember a few weeks ago I asked you about it and you delivered! So thank you for this.
    I ended up buying the Genie wall mounted opener since there wasn't any reviews on this 928. But with that said, would the Genie still be your go to choice or has this 928 earned that top spot for the wall mounted openers?

      I agree. I just installed the Genie and although the ceiling light is working fine now, if it fails, it's a $120 bill to replace it! I'd rather just replace a couple of LED bulbs! (I'd also like to be able to make it brighter, which I could do with bigger bulbs in my ceiling mounted opener)

  • @ragdude5190
    @ragdude5190 Рік тому +5

    Strongly disagree with the built-in light as an advantage. In my shop, a light at the opener would be nearly worthless and with the Genie, I was able to locate the remote led light over a man-door where it would provide the most useful light for my needs.
    Cost wise, how does it compare to the LM and Genie units? Is there battery backup available?

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Рік тому

      Thanks for your feedback. I can see your argument. If Guardian can offer an additional fixture to pair with the motor, then it might be a solution.
      As for the price, it's on par with the LiftMaster. Respectively $600 plus tax and installation. And it can come with a battery back up.

      Yes, I'd like to know too. The price is so high though. I may bet a guardsman 928 version at Menards. They have one with battery, wifi, and keyless pad for 389 vs 600 plus for the new liftmaster. I have a 8500 but don't like the way the unit jumps in speed causing loose cables momentarily.

    A private label version is sold in a big box retailer, Menards, under Menards private label Masterforce. Menards has 384 locations across the Midwest to the East in West Virginia and Wyoming West. They sell it on a rebate under $382.69 with a regular retail price of $429.00.
