      @@ayylmao2190 I am by no means meaning to defend what happened (especially after the war, there is absolutely no excuse for that), but most countries that were in the war were not in it "for noble reasons" they were either directly attacked or allied with those who were (which includes America which gets so much credit for joining 3 years into the war after being attacked at Pearl Harbour). Would it have been the noble and right thing to do to actively fight the Germans? Absolutely. Would it have resulted in a lot of Swiss people dying and probably very little impact on Germany? I expect so, though I am no historian by any means, so I will gladly take criticism in that regard. And semi-related and part of why I am not 100% sure of my statement, I will absolutely agree that my school system somewhat failed me and I think we could have dug deeper into our past, though that is hardly a Swiss-specific issue...
      And just for context, my original comment was mostly meant satirically in relation to the fact that an American of all people would talk about living in peace and less about what the Swiss did and didn't do.

    • @ayylmao2190

      @@CamCamCamCamCamCamCamCamCammmm My point was that neutrality isnt de-facto good. Many Europeans love to hate it but some of our nations interventions have been positive (Korea, Bosnia, Kuwait). Compared to world history we certainly do live in an era of peace.
      Also, if you were to ask, most Afghani's actually want us to somewhat stay to deter the Taliban. Funnily enough, Biden's withdraw has been an unmitigated disaster on that front. So the narrative of everything we is bad doesnt hold up in that regard either.

    • @MrDragon1968
      @MrDragon1968 3 роки тому +9

      Yeah, there's quite a lot he's brushed over or simplified. The British/French/Israeli invasion was wrong (it also bought down the British Prime minister- Anthony Eden), however the canal was built and mostly owned by a French company in a joint agreement with Egypt who also had shares (Egypt later sold it's shares to Britain and it became French/British owned) and was leased until 1968. Nasser force nationalised it (breaking agreed treaties Egypt had made), taking everyone by surprise, and then blocked Israel's access to it. He did it in part for geopolitical reasons - he was playing the west against the Soviets. Initially a lot of people were against Nasser's actions but when Britain/France/Israel secretly sent in invasion forces attitudes changed toward those countries positions. It should have been resolved diplomatically (as other countries were attempting to do), but neither side comes out of it well.
      Another important aspect to this - which I'm surprised wasn't mentioned - is that while Britain was slowly starting to de-colonise post WW2, the Suez crises really marked the end of Britain as a major global power.
