Quite effective by the way, perhaps about time to equip commercial planes with anti-IR missiles laser along with chaffs/flares... Will save a lot of lives for sure!

It's not a "laser weapon". It's a giant "laser pointer" that's blinding a MANPAD's IR seeker.
@@philippk819 A laser, which happens to be a heat source, is a good target for infrared rays？
@@jasonxien6890 of course, since it completely overwhelms the IR sensor. The laser is hitting the IR sensor or at least the glas cuppola of the sensor directly, rendering it completely useless.

@@jasonxien6890 No, it is not. The laser is obviously not meant to physically destroy things but just to mess with a delicate IR sensor. I don't get why the working principle is so hard to understand.

It doesn't true, US taxpayer subsidies equipment that made in US. US military industry is growing thanks to this and more jobs are created for the american people.
