The drinking ages of 14, 16 and 18 are pure theory... In the 90s, when I was a teenager in Hildesheim, with 14 or 15 it was absolutely no problem to get hard alcohol on saturday evenings. When we had public "TNT" (Tanznacht Total parties) the gas station sold us beer without any questions. They closed at 10 pm, later in the night a Romanian opened his store for us kids and sold everything we wanted (Vodka, Rum, Barcardi etc). That was not legal, but apparently nobody wanted to see it... I do not know, how it is in 2020, maybe the rules for kids and alcohol have become stricter?
you go to the beach place your beerbox in the water to keep it cool and start going haha a there are even things that you can put your case of beer in that float
When I was born in Ostfriesland in 1963, it was common, that all children get a (miniature) spoonfull of tea as their first drop to drink right after their birth and before their mother's milk. Boys (like me) got a spoonfull of Kur extra ( schnaps from wheat with 32 0/00 ) to stimulate the circulation. Children became joungsters (pre-adults) with the "Konfirmation" at about 14, which included the right to drink anything with the adults.
We were never told we could drink with the adults from the "punch" bowl on special occasions with the adults ... we were told by some of the youngest adults we could sneak some. We later learned they all always knew and soon it was us telling the younger kids 14 and 15ish to be sneaky and don't get caught. I think that was the way to keep us sober and respectable.
huh it never happened to me that multiple people had to show ID's, even when it was obvious that the alcohol was for the whole group ... very unusual for germany, I'm just gonna say Phil's experience was a weird exception ^-^ Maybe because the oldest one was only 16, I highly doubt this would happen with an 18 year old
You are absolutely correct. Just remember a store does not have to sell you, he 'may' sell you. If the store says no, it is his priveligae to say no. Any store may decline selling to any customer. Well... Phil was so unlucky to find the idiot who had that in mind.
As bad as it sounds, my first time alcohol was with 9.... lol But it worked out well. A decade later I still haven't had more than 20 drinks in my life...
We drink beer instead of water😆 just kidding, it's cheap and very very good quality. I would recommend, always get a beer which is made by local brewery. Every region has it's own brewery and we support out local businesses, so if you are for example in Berlin, buy a local Berliner, or if in München, get a Augustiner, in Braunschweig get a Wolters and so on. I've been on US, and no american beer can even compare to german beer.
You forgot another weird state difference in the US - a few states are "State Stores" where there are no private liquor stores. You have to go to a state run store which means when you show ID you are doing it to a state employee. Lying about your age to them is HUGE because it's not just a local ordinance at a store, it's equal to perjury in a court. Pennsylvania is the largest of those states. Because of their size the government of Pennsylvania itself is the world's largest purchaser of alcohol.
as an adult, you should never overdo it. as a kid / teen tho, you are young and testing your limits, that's normal. usually you naturally grow out of that, once real life begins.
to your Darß stroy: even it's legal to buy beer at the age of 16, they saw, that it's not only for your friend, and that's why they refused selling it to him. It's illegal to make alcohol accessible to underaged persons, not only for your friend, but for the seller, too. It's not only they CAN refuse selling....they HAVE TO if they know about the underaged persons. And the last point: because of domestic authority they can refuse selling whenever they want.
My website I have not added my surname don't know why just like to be slighty unknown but its on my business cards I have given out to the events centre in rotorua or rotovega's Corporate Events. My surname doesn't look that nice on my website anyway....
Privat kann man im Grunde tun und lassen, was man will was Alkohol angeht.
When I visited Germany at 17 in high school, I was like "OMG, I can drink?" Lol. Our parents signed consent forms that allowed us in the presence of our German teacher. We went to the Haufbrauhaus (sp?) and had beer, and I had a screwdriver at some small restaurant in a little town. I thought it was great at the time. If you could see over the bar, you could drink. Lol.
@@dg44562 In Germany it's 17 too. A friend of mine joined at 17. I got conscripted at 18, after finishing school but got kicked out for smoking weed. Conscription/Draft ended in 2011, so alot of my friends didn't get drafted even thought they were just a couple months younger. They were the lucky ons. I think guys born after february 1992 got of the hook...
The drinking age used to be 18 in Wisconsin but 21 here in Illinois. SO, we would just cross the border (only 15 miles away). Needless to say there were a lot of fatal crashes along the border. I was in Utah a couple years ago and you had to go to a state liquor store to buy alcohol (beer, wine, booze). The grocery stores only had low alcohol beer. And then there are the "dry" areas of the country. NO ALCOHOL. Not at the store, not in the restaurants, no bars. Everything is taxed to death here in the U.S. I do believe the legal age should be 18. Old enough to register for the draft, join the military, old enough to vote but you can't have a beer. When I was a kid my dad would let us have a small glass of beer with dinner once in a while. His grandparents were born in Germany (hurray!). And as always, enjoy responsibly.
yeah like Washington State Parks, no alcohol allowed (dry states) .. but if u look close, and make some friends even the older ones , have a huge amount of Gin for example in their motorhome. Just make sure to poor it into a "red cup" ahhaha and everything is good.
I think the 16/18 rule is better because it teaches us how to handle alcohol and by the time we can drive, we`re already used to it and it is not as exciting anymore, so most people dont mind being the driver and staying sober for one night.
If you want to see expensive alcohol prices, come to where I live - Canada. It's so depressing when I go to the States or visit relatives in Hannover. Prost !!!!!🍻
Canadian living in Munich. That is because of the "sin tax", which is there to discourage you from enjoying a legal beverage. It doesn't, but the gov't can look like it`s policing alcohol consumption while raking in the taxes. That will never change in Canada. I can buy alcohol for a third of what it costs in Canada. And no one here is staggering in the streets except at Octoberfest and those are usually the tourists.
Sitting somewhere on the outside, enjoying the evening with some friends or family and some beer, wine or what else is so lovely, i prefer that a lot more than sitting at home and drinking there.
We had this after our graduation (10th grade when you are 16 17) we all bought really a lot of alcohol (were 20 people) and sat down with loud music on a castle and just partied, I think until 4 am we all drank our heads off that night but it was just fun, no one complained it was the best summer I've ever had and I've never been so happy to live in Germany to be able to do this without trouble
Remember: It is the the privilege of the youth to go against the rules ! In my opinion it is their duty. So the harsher you start banning stuff, forbid the use, raise the age of alcohol consumption, the more the youth will disregard... and they will do it in an uncontrolled enviorenment. The goal should be to teach the young a reasonable handling of consumption. I am an old fart and therefore adress this matter, prohibition doesn't help the least bit ! As Phil stated, he was 13 and started drinking, which I personally think is exactly the critical age in puberty and the developement of the brain and the body to do so ( quite the same age I started drinking and discovered the 'thrill' of being drunk. I I got it into control within my teenage times, but in a rerorspective view, I wished for the sake of a few friends, there would have been some help ). Very difficult topic and many parts are to be thought about and discussed here.
I think our German laws around drinking/alcohol are quite ok. Responsibilty has to be leached/learned, but at 21 not many will still take advice. If someone wants alcohol, he will get it somehow, be it by a fake id or from a friend over 21. My parents drank one glass of wine or beer pretty much daily (they were/are from a time where this was totally common), so I tried each of which very early, maybe around 5 or 7 (just one sip). Dry wine or a Pilsner for a kid who´s used to sweet stuff? That left a mark! Guess what - there are not many beers or wines I like and I´m 51 now.. An occasional glass of Sekt if someone´s celebrating or a shot of something just for taste is pretty much all.
I'm from Wisconsin, which has a heavy German influence. Most stores and gas stations have all type of alcohol. The drinking culture here is rather lacked.
I don't think in Germany there are liquor stores in the US sense because there is no special license needed? But there are some specialized wine and liquor stores with a large selection of expensive liquors. I think the US is crazy with their remainders of prohibition. Germany is maybe a bit too liberal because as you mention there is too much drinking at 13-15. But I don't think stricter laws are the best way to change this. And overall there is less drinking in Germany than in the 70s or 80s I believe. Partly because change of culture/health (and others drugs getting more popular?!), partly because the laws did get more strict wrt to DUI
My dad was in the military in the 80s so then if in the military you were allowed to drink at 17. So he drank at 17, 18, 19, and 20 years of age. The year of his 21st birthday they changed the law to raise the drinking age to 21 so for a couple months he couldn't drink. My mom on the other hand lived in Pennsylvania but would visit Virginia a lot and eventually moved there. Pennsylvania changed their drinking age to 21 before Virginia did so my mom couldn't drink in Pennsylvania so she would just go to Virginia and drink there. But Virginia did eventually change the age to 21. My mom is a couple months older than my dad so I think she turned 21 before the whole country changed the age so it didn't really affect her.
Two things: First, 21 became the drinking age in the US in 1984 due mainly to MADD (Mothers Agaisnt Drunk Driving) convincing the Federal Government that it would reduce DUI-related fatalities (the data on this was, and remains, dubious). States had to fall in line with the new law because the Reagan Administration tied compliance with it to federal funding of highway projects. In other words, if a state didn't make the drinking age 21 it could lose up to 10% (I think) of the federal money it got for road repair/construction. Second, I grew up in NH in the mid-80s when the drinking age in NH was 21, but it was still 18 in VT. To say the least, Friday afternoons were a circus as anybody with a van, pick-up, station wagon would take orders from their underaged friends and head for the border. Stores in VT would literally have handcarts waiting because they new what was coming!
Oh yes I remember those days leaving from Nashua heading out 101 through Milford and Peterborough it seems like just a few months ago it's hard to believe that it's actually a few decades ago!
8:38 - Actually the rule says that there has to be at least one non-alcoholic beverage that is cheaper than the cheapest alcoholic one (usually beer). So, many restaurants and bars offer milk as the cheapest option, because nobody drinks milk at a bar.
I‘ve the same opinion as Phil. 14 is too young for start drinking alcohol. All other laws are really ok in Germany. Sry to say, but the laws in the States are schizophrenic. You are allowed to drive a car with 16, you are full sui juris with 18, also voting for politican is starting with 18 and go to the military...18!!!

This may not be a popular opinion but I am in favour of a younger drinking age. The reason being. In States it’s 21. By that time you can vote and you have drivers license. The automatic assumption being your responsible enough to drink. Unless you drank illegally you have no idea how to drink responsibly. Better to learn from parents at a younger age. With people who have your best interest at heart. Instead of being subject to peer pressure. Drinking illegally and quite frankly making mistakes that could have been avoided with parental supervision
turnmeonwithart I had a very unique upbringing when it came to drinking which was culturally different. One I do not believe could be repeated. Let me stress unique not bad. The end result being. That I am a responsible drinker. Which to me means I am not against having a drink now and then if the mood strikes me. Now in practicality. I have not had a drink in over ten years.
Geman Retail Store Worker here, sometimes on the cashier: I was always told to go with my gut feeling when a group of young people tries to buy alcohol, but a good checkmark is: How many bottles of WHAT do they try to buy, or would you sell a group of 15 to 17 year olds 20 bottles of cheap vodka because ONE of them is 18? I didn´t and when they had the fucking gall to complain to my manager, she basically threatened them with giving them a ban from entering the store for a while which would have included calling their parents over. Never seen a bunch of rowdy teens shut up so quick. They didnt even take the one bottle she allowed the 18 year old to buy. Regarding locking up fancy stuff: That depends HEAVILY on how many cases of theft you historically had Some stores (mine included) secure every single fucking bottle of popular heavy liquor with a mechanism only a few people can actually unlock, and every other bottle above a certain price point, usually once you pass the 15 or 20 euros mark For example even though Jack Daniels is only about 15 bucks, you´d still see them secured in most places, just because they tend to be the target for thefts
Here in Canada its 19 (18 in my province) but many of us start at 14 or 15. Many parents or older siblings buy it for them. As long as you are at someone's house and not wandering the streets the authorities don't do anything.
I traveled to Germany in ‘85 & was struck by the fact that the German student could drink, but didn’t drink heavily. This was in contrast with the American high school students who drank excessively. I think the German way is better. Don’t hide your beer/wine & learn to drink responsibly at home before you start driving.
the crazy thing i hate in the US is it varies state by state on what TIME OF DAY you can even buy alcohol at the supermarket.. like lots of places you can't buy alcohol before noon which sucks!
All I know is that American beer is piss water, There are some independent brewers in the US are making fantastic beers though, but the general mass produced stuff is rotten. German beer is some of the best in Europe
I’m from Vegas, and yes, you can carry open containers of alcohol and drink in public. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, it’s fine. Love your videos.
when i was in murica for a roadtrip visiting my aunt and onkle there, we where at Walmart to buy stuff. Like the 24can pack of Bud. Back on the way to check out to pay, I "physicaly carried" the pack of beer on to the cashier moving belt thingy, with all the other stuff we bought... : the cashier asked for an ID, my Dad showed his ID but at the same time she was reffering to me , I was at the Age of 19 back there. She said its not allowed to sell this right now, because I was putting it down on the moving belt thing. Alot of talking later .. like how stupid it is /was ... my Dad walked back to the fridge, took another one and payed .... that was pretty ridiculous at this time. but yea, thats murica. + there was an pretty much old man right infront the lane to buy a six pack of beer, grown man with beard in his 50´s. Even he had to show his ID to buy a pack of beer. pretty funny, we laughed the whole night about that ... idk how to describe that situation kinda sad. For the ones who want to visit the US. Make sure to take your Passport (Reisepass) with you all the time, not just your ID. for example in LasVegas they wont sell anything alcoholic without a Passport.... ID wont count. pretty strange
As for Russia, we are permitted to buy and drink any kind of alcohol at the age of 18, but one ought to always be ready to prove their age by showing their passport or driving license.
I’m allergic to alcohol but wish North America could be more like Europe. Most people can enjoy a libation or two but unfortunately, there are always the fools who need to get wasted and ruin it for everyone.
I was told, my brother drank his first Schnaps, when he was just 3 years old. It was an Sylvester-party and one guest had left his Schnaps on the table and didn't look at it. And he forgot, that my brother grabbed everything he could in this age.
I remember with the age of 20 I couldn't gambel in Las Vegas and couldn't buy a Playboy and couldn't drink alcohol ... Was very strange for me. Please keep going with the great videos...
Australia back in the day drinking age was 21 but dropped to 18 ID's can be asked for at any time for proof of age in the Northern Territory there is the banner drinkers register you are on this because you have been to court for something you did while drunk so everyone must produce their license or some form of ID for it to be scanned. Some of the small communities can only sell light drinks for a period of the day then full strength later in the day Sunday is no sale of takeaway alcohol. I do remember while at school the small bottles of spirits where good for when we went to the movies they fit in your pocket and then at the movies you could empty the spirits into your soft drink cup. Walking the streets in Aussie drinking alcohol the cops will stop you a few drinks is good drinking until you can't walk not a fan nor am I of angry drunks they ruin a good night out DUI no one should do that and should be stopped I think the laws where I live are fare.
A lot of American liquor laws were written to suck up to prohibitionist church groups, which was the origin of the 1984 uniformity in age 21 as the drinking age.
I wish that law Phil described at 5:50 was the case here. I remember a weekly trip with the school. Someone else and I were the only ones who were 16 already. I didn't drink at all, so I refused to buy any alcohol. The other guy of course bought all he could. At least I felt great the next day, unlike the others.
You can buy alcohol cheaper in poland. Just saying if you wanna do trip, do it to Breslau/ Wroclaw and then to Warschau/Warszawa and then back. ( If corona don t kick anymore so hard)
In my 20s (living in US) we'd drink a lot of Polish beer because it was cheap yet much tastier than cheap American beer. Living near Chicago, with its large Polish diaspora community, you could find Polish beer just about anywhere.
Also, drinking age doesn't mean the same thing in Germany and in the US. In Germany, there's *NO LIMIT* for legally drinking alcohol. It is *NOT ILLEGAL* for a 10-year-old to drink. Even in public. Whatever the kid wants. But it *is* illegal to let them drink. (And of course also to sell or give them that alcohol) The "Jugendschutzgesetz" only has rules for the adults, not for the kids. In the US, however… you can and (sometimes? often? don't know the stats) will be prosecuted if the cops find you drinking alcohol while being to young.
You can drink on the street in Germany? In Poland its illegal and youll get 150 PLN fine for drinking in public a bottle of beer ( and cost around 3-4 PLN so the fines are big). Im shocked. They say if you drink in publick you can cause a problem, get inro fight etc but its illogical becouse you can legaly drink in home or pub and then go to publick to cause problems. But definitrly you never should DUI! PS. There is a polish band (Acid Drinkers) song called "You cant drink on the street in USA" ;)
the reason alcohol is more expensive in the U.S. is politician are fond of sin taxes. There are both state and federal taxes which often mount to 40 percent of the advertised prices hidden in the price itself , plus sales taxes -- like German's VAT. In Texas for example if order a mixed drink in a RESTAURANT YOU PAY SALES TAX on the drink, plus an additional beverage tax. Posit!
What I like about Alchahol Drinking Ages is that It Will Be A Special Moment When You Reach The Leal Age To Drink, unlike like Sodas where you grow up Drinking m.
Me as a sales man, also working at the cash desk, I would not sell any alcohol to a guy that is 16 and a bunch of younger kiddos are around him, I cannot be sure for what exactly he is buying the beer or wine.
I live in Bulgaria and we don't have a drinking age but we have the age for buying it which is funny, same with cigarettes. If you are for example 14 and a police offices stop you with a bottle of vodka and tell you to throw it away or give it to them because is "illegal" they are lying and you can even sue them for that. I've been smoking from really young like 13/14 and police just look at me in a bad way but don't do sh!t. (one time an officer stole my cigarette and tore it apart but I was outside after 10PM which was illegal if I'm not with an adult and told me to go home so I wasn't able to do anything if I didn't want to go in the station) The Vodka's price is really low, you can find a bottle of "Russian Standart" for 5/7 $ here. And we usually don't need VPN if we don't want to access a specific country's content but other than that we don't have any regulations. About drinking outside it really depends on the hour and where outside like at the main pedestrian zone or a dark ally. Anyway if anyone has any questions about it just write a reply, I'll try to answer asap.
In the Netherlands it was like Germany, but than we put 2 kids in the mri. One was drinking alcohol the other one didn’t…….conclusion: don’t drink, especially on a young age.
in Denmark aall sueermarkeeets hve aat leaast aa small seleection of haard liquor(Usuaally the ccheaest kind), while larger suppermarkets with a specificc counter for maaggazine, ccigareetts and liquor. and then there are secial shops where exclussive liqour/wine ccaan be bought
What surprised me is that Germany is the stereotypical beer drinking country. In fact though, many young people do pregame with liquors or wine. In the US I noticed that beer is way more common, especially when it comes to pregaming, and I saw way more girls in the States having a beer than in Germany, where they mostly get some cockatil etc.
Drinking ages? yall are weak come to Denmark we aint got that shit here u need to be a certain age when u buy it sure but when drinking... well all i got to say is BOTTOMS UP!
Diana, you must drink german beer. you will see, the german beer rules over the world and they taste so good. Women they drink beer are sooo sexy. Phil will never leave you. This is the joker to To strengthen the relationship. But this is out of my Bavarian persepective :D
The legal age in Louisiana was 21 when I was coming up, but they really didn't enforce it. So I was drinking in bars at 18. I joined the Air Force and was stationed in South Dakota. The age was 21 there also, but they strictly enforced it. I got kicked out of the military for underage drinking. What's crazy is I stayed in the dorm and my supervisor heard about it from word of mouth... from a guy who was old enough but called in to work once because he was so drunk he didn't even know where he was! Nothing happened to him! My supervisor even bought me and a guy a few years younger than me beer before, but I hung around other people in the dorm instead of with my coworkers like they did, I'm pretty sure that had something to do with what happened. Yeah, New Orleans is more like a European city than an American one, lol!
The legal and the* real* drinking age is just a lot of crap and is usually totally ignored by the teenagers the legal age was 21 when I was growing up but we always had the older friends who where responsible for the beer and liquor store run so yes legal age is a technical limit but the reality is in a private environment teenagers drink just like sex, the system may try to legislate it but the teenagers just ignore it and complain about the fairness of it ,as a adult well over the age of 50 I can say that age of enforcement should be 21 most adults aren't responsible enough with alcohol and teenagers are definitely not responsible enough to be drinking!
Yes true usa limit 21 year old laws they not allow minor younger age but understand parents have decide if permit child drink at home private it is limit least 16 year old at home but not outside or clubs not allow minor legally so I know countries all different options for age laws
Here in Bielefeld - the supermarkets all have sections where the alcoholic drinks are. There is no barriers but often it looks as if there were laws that controlled the times that you could purchase alcoholic drinks - not sure if this is a NRW issue. The layout of the supermarket is the giveaway to the possible situation.

Legally you can have a beer at 16,Spirits with 18 in Germany.
Um Gottes Willen! Ernsthaft??? Alkohol für ein Neugeborenes?? Wie schlimm ist das denn? Ich kann es kaum fassen.
I think drinking the first time with the elders is still a thing. Atleast here in South-West-Germany...
@@miriamjue3506 🤣
We were never told we could drink with the adults from the "punch" bowl on special occasions with the adults ... we were told by some of the youngest adults we could sneak some. We later learned they all always knew and soon it was us telling the younger kids 14 and 15ish to be sneaky and don't get caught. I think that was the way to keep us sober and respectable.
huh it never happened to me that multiple people had to show ID's, even when it was obvious that the alcohol was for the whole group ... very unusual for germany, I'm just gonna say Phil's experience was a weird exception ^-^ Maybe because the oldest one was only 16, I highly doubt this would happen with an 18 year old
exactly!!! If one is old enough, he can buy whatever he wants, right?!
It's a bit silly because it doesn't prevent someone older from buying alcohol for younger people. You just need to be smart and send him in alone
You are absolutely correct. Just remember a store does not have to sell you, he 'may' sell you. If the store says no, it is his priveligae to say no. Any store may decline selling to any customer. Well... Phil was so unlucky to find the idiot who had that in mind.
We are curious: At what age have you started drinking alcohol? =)
18, don’t tell mom
As bad as it sounds, my first time alcohol was with 9.... lol
But it worked out well.

I am old enough to remember the drinking age in the US as 18. The nanny state has only become much worse.

to your Darß stroy: even it's legal to buy beer at the age of 16, they saw, that it's not only for your friend, and that's why they refused selling it to him. It's illegal to make alcohol accessible to underaged persons, not only for your friend, but for the seller, too.
It's not only they CAN refuse selling....they HAVE TO if they know about the underaged persons.
And the last point: because of domestic authority they can refuse selling whenever they want.
In swizerland its no matter when one is 15 and the oter 16

Im missing a topic! The beer differences of Germany and the US. Stichwort "Reinheitsgebot"!
Any used to filter or colour a beer doesn't come under the RHG either. It's just a marketing tool these days.
Yea I miss that too, I mean it's the oldest law in our country. And I think It's very Important fore the high quality beer we produce.
I am from Germany and i started drinking with 13,14 years I think it's pretty normal here 😅
Im from Slovakia and same here (legal age 18) but drinking is our culture🇸🇰🍻🍷
At least it wasn't normal in my area, thank god.
Lol.
Hofbräuhaus. They brew some fantastic beer.
@@t.k.326 Yes, that's it. Thank you.

Conscription/Draft ended in 2011, so alot of my friends didn't get drafted even thought they were just a couple months younger. They were the lucky ons. I think guys born after february 1992 got of the hook...
You're right. Both should be 16
The drinking age used to be 18 in Wisconsin but 21 here in Illinois.
Jack Daniels Bourbon Whiskey is made in a dry county. So weird...
Yeah, Germany is definitely cheap in that regard. I guess you don't have bottles of vodka for 3.99 at the supermarkets in Canada? 😬
Or Contado for 1,50€
Canadian living in Munich.
Sitting somewhere on the outside, enjoying the evening with some friends or family and some beer, wine or what else is so lovely,
i prefer that a lot more than sitting at home and drinking there.
That is the best! It’s nice to chill on the patio or somewhere outdoors with drinks and close friends.
I started drinking legally at the age of 13 in Germany
No, not legally.
I started at 14 (our legall age is 18)😂
Remember: It is the the privilege of the youth to go against the rules !
There isn't a "drinking age" in Germany. There is at most a "selling age".

Yeah, one non alcoholic drink has to be cheaper than the cheapest alcoholic beverage! Paragraph 6 GastG Ausschank👍 the so called "Apfelsaft Paragraph"
I love Germany on all the terms and conditions 😉😘

Agreed! 21 seems too old, especially for beer.
I wonder if that really is an unpopular opinion.
turnmeonwithart I had a very unique upbringing when it came to drinking which was culturally different.
One I do not believe could be repeated. Let me stress unique not bad.
The end result being. That I am a responsible drinker.
Which to me means I am not against having a drink now and then if the mood strikes me.
Now in practicality. I have not had a drink in over ten years.

Geman Retail Store Worker here, sometimes on the cashier:
I was always told to go with my gut feeling when a group of young people tries to buy alcohol, but a good checkmark is: How many bottles of WHAT do they try to buy, or would you sell a group of 15 to 17 year olds 20 bottles of cheap vodka because ONE of them is 18?
I didn´t and when they had the fucking gall to complain to my manager, she basically threatened them with giving them a ban from entering the store for a while which would have included calling their parents over.
Never seen a bunch of rowdy teens shut up so quick.
They didnt even take the one bottle she allowed the 18 year old to buy.
Regarding locking up fancy stuff:
That depends HEAVILY on how many cases of theft you historically had
Some stores (mine included) secure every single fucking bottle of popular heavy liquor with a mechanism only a few people can actually unlock, and every other bottle above a certain price point, usually once you pass the 15 or 20 euros mark
For example even though Jack Daniels is only about 15 bucks, you´d still see them secured in most places, just because they tend to be the target for thefts
And by the way, Tybee Island, GA did not have anyone checking our drinks when we were last there. 😊

(And of course also to sell or give them that alcohol)
The "Jugendschutzgesetz" only has rules for the adults, not for the kids.
In the US, however… you can and (sometimes? often? don't know the stats) will be prosecuted if the cops find you drinking alcohol while being to young.

the reason alcohol is more expensive in the U.S. is politician are fond of sin taxes. There are both state and federal taxes which often mount to 40 percent of the advertised prices hidden in the price itself , plus sales taxes -- like German's VAT.

(one time an officer stole my cigarette and tore it apart but I was outside after 10PM which was illegal if I'm not with an adult and told me to go home so I wasn't able to do anything if I didn't want to go in the station)
The Vodka's price is really low, you can find a bottle of "Russian Standart" for 5/7 $ here.
Hey Phil, snag me a bottle of top quality Apfelwein I live in Alabama in the US and you can’t get it here. Thanks and Aufweidersehen
in Denmark aall sueermarkeeets hve aat leaast aa small seleection of haard liquor(Usuaally the ccheaest kind), while larger suppermarkets with a specificc counter for maaggazine, ccigareetts and liquor. and then there are secial shops where exclussive liqour/wine ccaan be bought
2.00$ in 1980 for a 26er(750ml)in germany when i was there for smirnoff vodka
What surprised me is that Germany is the stereotypical beer drinking country. In fact though, many young people do pregame with liquors or wine. In the US I noticed that beer is way more common, especially when it comes to pregaming, and I saw way more girls in the States having a beer than in Germany, where they mostly get some cockatil etc.
I’ve always disagreed with the US drinking age. Ur old enough to vote, smoke cigarettes or be drafted into the army but not old enough to have a drink
Drinking ages?
yall are weak come to Denmark
we aint got that shit here
u need to be a certain age when u buy it sure
but when drinking... well all i got to say is
BOTTOMS UP!
The problem i started drinking in germany at 14 ofcourse i couldnt buy alcohol but you always had one or two friends who were 16
Diana, you must drink german beer. you will see, the german beer rules over the world and they taste so good. Women they drink beer are sooo sexy. Phil will never leave you. This is the joker to To strengthen the relationship. But this is out of my Bavarian persepective :D
Germans have lots of alcohol and superfast highways,
americans have painkillers and guns.
Hey you all might react to the Prohibition youtube video from Oversimplified. Just a heads up.
Wad is denn ein Wegbier
Jutta Lio Ein Bier für den Weg 😅. Dachte das wäre was ganz normales 😉

Prohibitions are boring and nonsense sometimes. Alcoholism is a serious common health problem. Alcohol taxes are delicous for state...
I like Phil’s hair a lot. But I like his hat also! Super nice! ( bold and beard man speaking)
After this video i have the feeling we Germans are alcoholics 🤣
In USA you can find many manofactories which make excellent beers.
Yes true usa limit 21 year old laws they not allow minor younger age but understand parents have decide if permit child drink at home private it is limit least 16 year old at home but not outside or clubs not allow minor legally so I know countries all different options for age laws
I am in Texas and I was able to buy my daughter an alcoholic drink before she was 21 in a restaurant.
I know growing up on Long Island NY, in 1981 at the age of 13 I was drinkin.
