Pre-emptive backseat reminder from something overlooked in your last play. Remember for purposes of whether something is heated/exposed to dust/cleaned etc. The "Key Node" is what determines that. This node is where the cursor is when placing blueprints, identifiable by the tile that it pivots around. So if want to know if something is covered? Go by that. It is why the cold snaps kept hitting power hard in last playthrough. Even though subsurface heaters were covering sometimes half a building or dome, it was not covering that node, therefore was unheated.
Same concept for Moisture Vaporators. You can have 3/4 of one inside the radius of an adjacent one, as long as the Key Node is outside the nearby boundary. Also, similar for the Triboelectric Scrubbers. PS: I love setting up 2 scrubbers just within range of each other, so they scrub each other, no electronic maintenance costs. Setting up 2 scrubbers early with thoughtful placement of all of your other electronic maintenance buildings can be another game changer.
Man, Pravus you never fail to amuse. 1165% difficulty... and you place your battery, moisture vapourator and fuel refinery inside the dust cloud range of your rocket XD
Some backseat gaming: The time to scan a sector is lower if a sensor tower is nearby. So do not cluster them in the top-left corner of the map. Spread them out at max range of the Rover and hub
I wish you the best of luck Pravus, but here's a quick tip about farms: If all crops are set to none, and it is not being worked by any colonists, the soil quality will increase by 2.4% per sol till it hits 90%.
10:26 Keep in mind the scanning boost from those is considerably lower after about 3 gridsquares so you may want to move them at some point, especially since you don't need power or maintenance.
Just wanted to say thanks for the video! I wasn't sure if I should buy this game and after seeing your first few videos of this game I decided to get the deluxe set. Just wanted to say great job and I'm enjoying them, keep up the good work!
Watching your Surviving Mars videoes are in my top 5 of videoes to watch! Other videoes are Stellaris, Settlement Survival, Surviving the Aftermath and Plague Inc: Evolved! Then there ofc. is also your Frostpunk series
I bought this game 3 years ago and haven't played it until now. I got too busy with life and then forgot about any gaming whatsoever. I'm excited to try it out, and I'm glad to see that many people still play it 4 years later
You built 4 sensor towers in the same spot. That’s not efficient or more effective. Better would be to build one where 4 scan sectors meet. Jump 2 scan sectors away and build another where 4 scan sectors meet. Each tower impacts the sectors around them. There is not a cumulative effect, so build another tower further away where it too can impact the sectors around it.
There is a long-forgotten tactic of carrying two vaporators and two refineries on your starting rocket while playing as Paradox. This, along with building near the concrete deposit they give you, lets you build a dome quickly, and launch the rocket homeward with plenty of time to get passengers and bring it back. I recommend supply pods with rovers and advanced resources over outsourcing research. Also, I think that since you have to land a human on mars by sol 25 as Paradox, having no rival colonies is low key the hardest, though Russia, Japan and Church aren’t very helpful and Russia is aggressive in competing for those milestones.
Great to see you at it again! Also, you should avoid placing maintenance-intensive buildings close to the rocket launch site before you have landing pads set up. Saves a lot on maintenance costs which you really shouldn't be paying.
i just bought the game yesterday and played on very easy to get into it. The contrast is mindblowing but also it looks really fun even with this difficulty!(which is rare for me, i tend to play games on easy)
I've noticed you still place large solar panels instead of small ones. I've found that the small ones are actually more efficient. For the same build cost (3 metal for 3 hexs), you get 6 power on the small panels vs 5 on the large. The tradeoff is the 3x small panels will cost you 1.5 metals in mx, vs 1 for the single large panel. Early game, I find the extra mx cost is cheaper than the lost power over time.
nice another new series of Surviving Mars! :) You were the reason I bought the game! Thanks for your showcases :) almost bought Kingdoms Reborn, sadly i haven't got much time on hand to play so many different games :/
Hi, I was playing recently below and beyond with hard settings on your map (not excatly 1,165%, but close, without renegades and with sponsor i liked, Japan i think), but i had extra rule to go underground, hit 300 colonist, do some terraforming enough to get rid of enviromental threats and then colonized mars. But was quite easy, yeah, not having rebel yell made it a lot easier, but i also used trading with rivals, no stealing. For extra challenge, you can add personal rule of not interacting with rival colonies and also colonize underground first with only single basic dome on surface (but underground is buggy, maybe not worth for yt content)
I once played in high difficulty I got last arc (I usually do btw), then soon as I managed to barely establish colony, the fire random event happened and killed some of my colonists, but I managed to persevere by sheer dumb luck of getting the clone vats breakthrough. One of my favorite moments in this game.
Suppose it makes sense that Paradox is the weakest sponsor outside of "hurdy hurr durr our self insert is unique!", they're a semi-popular game company going up against literal countries.
god I fucking love this game, it's whole vibe is amazing I just wish the radio stations had more dialogue, it felt so much more alive before dialogue started to repeat. Listening to surfer dude music on mars is a great vibe all around as well.
Here's me crossing fingers that you get BOTH the auto-mining, AND the tribo-electric scrubbers and soon... Not sure if that's possible, but if you can... then that'll make this easily plausible!
Awesome series! Been thinking when you select the starting area, the difficulty indicator probably considers the natural disasters at that spot. But since they’re maxed out by the chosen mods, you could go for the place with the least resources, that’s also in mountains, to have it even more difficult.
This particular location is the most baron mountainous region in the game, depending on what you prioritize. It has two bars of metals, I think, but my experience of one bar of metals is the same as two bars except it’s a coin toss whether you can place your first dome near a metals deposit or not. It’s not actually more fun - just about being lucky or re-rolling several times. I’d say that choosing Russia as your only space race competitor - if you’re going for milestones - is more of a challenge at that point.
Paradox didn’t make PA. That was made by a company called Introversion, that Paradox bought out. Like how Microsoft bought Mojang, or how Private Division bought Squad (the Kerbal Space Program devs).
All you need for this game is time. Use all your science for the infinite mining faciliy and after that the space lift. Easy win, but takes many hours.
Pravus, have you tried ranches? Really good early game food source. Sure, vegans don’t like them, and they take as much space as a full farm while consuming oxygen, but unless you have botanists or farming breakthroughs, they outperform the farm in raw food output. They’re really powerful with Hunger, Amateurs, and Rebel Yell because they produce consistently, neither requiring botanists, nor high soil quality, for optimal food yields. My formula is this: place a ranch and set it to rabbit for one harvest, just so the 12 food in the rocket doesn’t have to stretch for five sols, then shift to all turkey all the time. This will feed the average colony of 48 colonists in two apartments quite nicely. Outdoor ranches have massively increased water and oxygen requirements, but can feed a large colony. They’re good if you have a large, but still uneducated colony, especially jf you don’t have space in-dome for farming, but have water and metals available.
I sense disaster mathematics in the future... ^^ Other colonies on Mars... This is not a true ultimate survival challenge! #Elitism #Masochism Seriously, though, your last playthrough did indeed owe much to the existence of other colonies (stolen population bridged an otherwise potentially lethal gap and generally accelerated your game). "Growing" population to the point it can support autonomy is a serious challenge when there are absolutely no other possibilities to get colonists. I remember, however, something else that really saved your hide, even more than the existence of other colonies: an early, game-changing breakthrough (automatic extractors, if memory serves). It's what funded your survival through the early game. Absent that breakthrough, you are dependent on setting up rare metals extraction ASAP, and every bit of funding could help gap that bridge. I'd advise holding off on spending funds on further outsourcing until after you've secured the extraction of those rares - you already have all the early game tech you needed to support the first colonists and the second dome you'll need.
You might want to use the single spot solar panel, when you use the three space on you loose 1 power generation for the same cost of repairs as a three single spot ones, int he early game is can really help.
I am still incredibly disappointed by Below and Beyond. No regrets on refunding the DLC as it just didn't add anything worthwhile and in fact broke things like housing. Hope you have fun with it Pravus, I know I'll enjoy watching you play it.
Ah damn i think the rival colonies kinda trivialised the challenge of growing your population last time. For the most interesting run i would suggest not stealing people!

In this episode of "Surviving Mars": A new beginning! Expert try-harding! Off to a good start! Early dome! And beating China!
Empasis on BEATING CHINA.
sadly his file is completely broken as he does not receive early cold wave nor nothing thus having amazing start from early on
I wish you the best of luck Pravus, but here's a quick tip about farms: If all crops are set to none, and it is not being worked by any colonists, the soil quality will increase by 2.4% per sol till it hits 90%.
Huh. So you build the farm early and let the quality build up while waiting on colonists?
wait WHAT
Coming back to rewatch after a year, this video still holds up to my expectations. Great work!
10:26 Keep in mind the scanning boost from those is considerably lower after about 3 gridsquares so you may want to move them at some point, especially since you don't need power or maintenance.
Lets hope he can read the comments whenever he does not know something. Last time people were giving out essays and major tips. Such as my own.
And here I am unable to beat anything above 600% Goodluck pravus.
Just wanted to say thanks for the video! I wasn't sure if I should buy this game and after seeing your first few videos of this game I decided to get the deluxe set. Just wanted to say great job and I'm enjoying them, keep up the good work!

That’s sad you haven’t played it.
Makes sense that paradox is the hardest sponsor cause you probably need an “oxygen dlc” lmao
Your last max difficulty run inspired me to run one, thank you for coming back to this again
Looking forward to this one, really hoping for some massive disasters early on. I'm sure you understand...
Beating China on building the first dome? No social credit for you!
Praise Pravus!
-100000000000000000000 social credit
Finally! This is gonna be fun!
Wohoo! It's finally here! I have been waiting for this since the release of the expansion.

YAAAY!!!! Perfect! HURRY UP WITH PART 2!!)
I was waiting to see a new max difficulty run... awesome thanks Pravus
i just bought the game yesterday and played on very easy to get into it. The contrast is mindblowing but also it looks really fun even with this difficulty!(which is rare for me, i tend to play games on easy)
Surviving Mars brought me to your channel, so happy to see another series :)

Pravus, this is the perfect pre-Christmas gift! I'm buying my son Surviving Mars and now I can give him pointers

I'm SO pumped for this!
Thank you again for coming back to this love when you play this game. watched all last season and will watched all this one.
Fantastic! Thanks for this video. I'll look for the sequel(s)!
I really hope you end up fully terraforming the Red planet I love seeing that done if it's even possible at max difficulty
Yay, surviving Mars max difficultly!
My favorite series is BACK, baby!!!!
Needed a new series to watch, thanks
I just started watching the surviving mars playlist a few days ago. Great thing i can continue watching the new videos after that.
ty for the vids 🤓
Praise Pravus!
this guys voice made me watch a video on a game on I know basically nothing about, subbed
I wouldn’t have known about this game if I didn’t find you Provus, many thanks, and keep making these awesome and entertaining videos.
I once played in high difficulty I got last arc (I usually do btw), then soon as I managed to barely establish colony, the fire random event happened and killed some of my colonists, but I managed to persevere by sheer dumb luck of getting the clone vats breakthrough. he is so confident and fast on doing everything OMGGG
Here's me crossing fingers that you get BOTH the auto-mining, AND the tribo-electric scrubbers and soon... Not sure if that's possible, but if you can... then that'll make this easily plausible!

"for Hellridge" they shouted from the wall when the orc came down from the sky.-(HELSREACH 7)
They really need to rethink the difficulty numbers many are flat out wrong.
Very promising start
To the max! I love surviving Mars and their studio, they made prison architect too I think which also means rimworld
Paradox bought Prison Architect after it was released and Rimworld is an indie game made by a single individual
Paradox didn’t make PA. That was made by a company called Introversion, that Paradox bought out. Like how Microsoft bought Mojang, or how Private Division bought Squad (the Kerbal Space Program devs).
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial Paradox didn't make Surviving Mars either. They're just the publisher, not the developer of the game.
Having to rewatch seeing how I fell asleep while watching. Didn't intend to fall asleep. Got really late
i was waiting for this =)
gl hf and may the mars be not to hard on you
Good luck! Lets hope you dont get the bugs!
damn i didnt think people where SO hardcore about surviving mars! a calm game!
Uhh, Nice i love it !. Ty for the new Run :)
I'm really enjoying this
YAY ANOTHER SERIES
Of course the real reason you want to take Tech Variety is because it comes with a quote from Sir Terry Pratchett.
time for pravus to conquer mars once again
I am a new viewer and you got me with your friendly greetings at the beginning of the video! :)
Surviving Mars is incredible
Let's hope he actually reads the comments for this series -_-
Unlikely.
Me scrolling UA-cam recommendations.
UA-cam: surviving Mars max difficulty
Me: 🤔
Me 20 mins in:🤔🤔🤔
More surviving Mars!!!!
All you need for this game is time. Use all your science for the infinite mining faciliy and after that the space lift. Easy win, but takes many hours.
"Paradox is the most incompetent of sponsors" well at least paradox finally got something factually correct for a change.
I really like this game and I'll watch from beginning because it's really hard 1165%. I subbed.👍
when I saw this I was so exited
Note for the future that Sensor Towers are more effective and efficient when built in different map grids
Incredible how much you upload and it’s great content too!

this game is so amazing
This should be interesting
Leaving a tip for your mystery. You should have a back up farming dome, as you'll see in the mystery later you will need it
Love to see it
Nice!
You should check out Per Aspera. They released a new DLC recently. Could be interesting.
Thanks!
I sense disaster mathematics in the future... ^^
Other colonies on Mars... This is not a true ultimate survival challenge! #Elitism #Masochism

There is no point in multiple towers together. It's about the distance from the tower. Spread them as far out as you can.
You better 100% terraform the planet this time
Friendly surviving mars chap
Awesome 👏

Nice

Now remember... Do not die!
I tried doing this a few weeks ago, it’s so darn challenging.
Ah damn i think the rival colonies kinda trivialised the challenge of growing your population last time. For the most interesting run i would suggest not stealing people!
0:26 Well, I don't know about water in Mars, but I'm sure there is salt...
OH MY GOD NICEEEEEEEE
Can't wait to play this on the steam deck in bed!
Let the raids for women begin!
...again
More batteries equals more power distribution
I'd love to see you do the teraforming run
LLLLEEETTTTSSSS gooooooooo been waiting
