LMAO: "Love a good bit of cardboard..." Brilliant comparison, the best online. No question the Rode is far superior with a deeper, fuller, basier sound. Funny though, the rear mic of the Deity is nice and deep - better than its front mic. Sterling stuff, sir!
Brilliant idea, on my tablet the rode sounded slightly better your voice was a little crisper but the difference was minimal and would be worth the slight negative in the audio for the convence of the 2 Mics, think I'll be ordering one very soon as I think it would work great with my Gopro hero 8. Great test as always. Stay safe best wishes Jon.
Intriguing that the Rode sounded crisper than the Deity, I'd have definitely said they're the other way round but as you point out, the device you listen on will make quite a difference. Glad you liked the video.
Well yes but the two mics are not the same, the rear one isn't as good and diirectional as the forward one so as soon as I'd finished with the plug-in interview mic, I'd want to turn the Deity around again and this would just get tiresome.
Many thanks for an interesting & informative review. Whilst it might be a bit of a faf to do, would it not be possible to reverse mount the Deity when a further mic is connected (e.g. Wireless lav) to allow the setup you discuss for an interview setting? Hopefully there will be more reviews in the future.... Cheers, Martin

Sturdy except for the sliding switch that is a bit flimsy, but works.

Lovin’ Your Work!
Very interesting product. Deity is not a bad company. They also have a very nice wireless transceiver range.
2:00 ever been tempted to glue googly eyes on the side that points forward just for fun/effect?
Just turn it around so the 'front' mic is facing you if you want your interviewee to plugged in replacing the back mic.

Cheers. Yes, that could certainly be done, I’m just being a bit nit-picky and think it would make a sensible upgrade for version 2!
What software do you use to edit video & audio for the D4 for GoPro?? To change from mono to stereo.
I use Magix Vegas Pro but any decent video editing software should be able to split the stereo track into dual mono
