As an electrical engineering student it was fascinating to see the different motors/solenoids randomly trigger, and the cherry on the top was when the disk tray started spinning, the phenomenon of load shifting of the transformers secondary was visualised. Every time a new short would occur, this would drop the voltage on the secondary coil causing the disk tray to drop in speed (which the speed reduction would depend on the resistance of each new short) such as at 4:43.
During the end, some of the components came back to life and some didn’t. This is more common dependent on the type of components on each specific circuit. So I won’t expect one full of ICs to last long, but the circuit to operate LEDs would mostly be passives and more resistant against permanent damage arising from short circuits.

"disk" refers to magnetic storage. "disc" would be the correct term for a CD.

José A. Acosta My mom had this kind of stereo from about 1995 until 2010. Before she moved it would just be on and off periodically at special times. When we moved in 2001 it was always either big band or classical. I remember in one argument, and it had been playing big band all morning I grabbed the play button on the cassette deck, and later that day you couldn’t get it down to play a tape. Not that the cassette decks were in use that much, but I should have done something with the CD player. This was all during a pretty bad time in my life.
