    Great video RC. I've got myself a 1950 manufacture FN Model 50 in .30-06, and also a 1911 manufacturer Carl Gustav Model 96/38 in 6.5x55. The Belgians and Swedes really know how to build a rugged, smooth, and incredibly accurate rifle.

    the crack at the rear tang happens on ALL wood and some synthetic rifles that are not properly relieved there. there should be a GAP between the wood and the metal of about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. with recoil the tang acts as a wedge...get out the dremel......also check and tighten the action screws every so often

    640 is the series of the rifle, the last didgit is calibre, for example 649 is 9,3x62 and the 646 is 6,5x55.

    I own 1942 Husqvarna 6.5 x 55 bought it as a surplus for 59.00 Canadian in -82 barrel was full grease and it was still wrapped in factory wrapping, on the stock there is a brass plate that had a word overslag ( oversize ) and triangular punch mark on 0 which meant that barrel was a "0" clearance barrel I hunted many years with open sight mainly deer and finally put a good scope on it, I have no problem shooting 3/4 inch grouping of the sand bag @ 100 yards with factory loads and even better with my own, those rifles were well ahead of their time in quality and accuracy, I am also a competitive shooter and I can honestly say that right out of the factory for 1942 the best rifle for the money have never missed and longest shot deer fell @ 380 yards ! Thank you for the video certainly informs many hunters of the good old husky's !

      I believe overslag means "hold over" from when they changed from a round nose to a spitzer bullet. They put decal or plate on the stock stating how much hold over or angle to use. the round disc/triangle punch would have the condition of the bore info.

    Nice video. A friend has one almost exactly the same as yours. He has an old Weaver scope on it. It shoots great. Almost kept up with my PU sniper. I was getting 1 1/2" groups with his and pulled off less than 1" with my PU at 100m. Love Swedish, Finnish, Danish, etc.. rifles. I have a nearly new 1943 Husky M43 that keeps up with my 1900 M96. I recently had to choose between a Danish M69 (K98 action) and a Carl Gustaf M63.I went with the CG63 with a GF diopter. What a rifle! I'm getting 1" groups at 100m every single groups with good handloads. Can't wait to get it to the Military base range and try it at 600m.I like that you do a very wide selection of rifles to feature.I also love old firearms and appreciate rifles like this.Great information. I learned some interesting facts about this rifle.Thanks!

    Enjoyed the video but I do have a question, is the collar or shoulder inside the receiver slotted on the left side as well as on the right side for the extractor? According to Frank de Haas in his book Bolt Action Rifles, FN started to cut a slot on the left side of the collar at some point to simplify machining of the receiver.
    Your are correct about the 4x Weaver Scope I believe all of the steel Weaver scopes were made in El Paso, Texas.
    Keep up the good work.

    Sweet rifle! I have a JC Higgins 51-L in .270 Winchester. It has the "improved" Mauser action. To me it's reminder to when you could order a hunting rifle from the sears catalogue. I am the same way I like control round feed Mauser actions. If I were to buy a modern bolt action rifle it's going to be a Winchester model 70 pre 64 type that they currently manufacturer. It's tough to beat a mauser. Mine is also drilled and tapped for the Lyman peep sight. I know what you mean about the stock. My rifle is going to get a new stock and re-blued. I am digging boyds. I know with my rifle the barrel is chrome lined and made by high standard.

    I owned a FN Mauser built for H&R in 30-06 . It was the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. I could consistently shoot 3" to 4" groups at 300 with a cheap tasco 4 power scope. I lived in Alaska at the time and when I left in 96 I let a buddy talk me out of it. I've always regretted selling that rifle. It looked very similar to the Husqvarna you have there nothing fancy but a great rifle. Have you ever seen a H&R like this? I can't find one anywhere? I'd love to get another one. Very interesting that they put the Swede barrel on that. Thanks

    I've got a line on one of these with the original barrel in .270. If I get my tax refund before it sells, will be my dream gun!
    No Idea what year it was made, but looks just like yours, same floorplate. Was wondering how that button worked, now I know!
    Any idea if Sweden bought the barreled action, or just the action and installed their own barrels?
    Would be kinda cool to think it's a Belgian action with a renowned Swedish barrel.

    I've got an interesting post war FN large ring .30-06 Mauser that has a Micro grooved barrel and Sako trigger, but no Marlin markings. Could be a 455, but has no iron sights or remnants of such, an under-cut checkered bolt knob, side mounted safety, and if one goes by Marlin serial number data, should have been built in 1952. Micro groove rifling didn't appear until something like 1957. Most curious in that it doesn't appear to be cobbled.

    IDK for sure but would guess the shank is just threaded for the large ring. The barrel blank was probably never milled down to a small ring thread. You can take a large ring shank and have it milled/threaded into a small ring. I had a barrel made in 9.3 intending to have my smith chamber it in 9.3X62 and it was to have a small ring shank/threading. I changed my mind and had the barrel maker short chamber it also.....well they decided on their own to thread it for a large ring......thankfully my smith just cut that large ring down to a small ring and it works great on my swedish mauser action. Husqvarna, Stiga, Kimber of Oregon chambered many small ring swedish mauser actions in 9.3X62,. 30-06, .308 etc. ....so please no comments about K98 3rd lug (which is NON BEARING, so they are essentially a TWO LUG action also).

    The easy and affordabble fix for the scope-safety interference could be a sniper safety or K98 Sicherung Scharfschütze - it is lower height and extends further backwards. Working on a 98 trigger is easy - two humps to file - smoothing the surface they ride on - ceramic paste; there should be tutorials available.

    Do you need high scope rings to be compatible with the military flag safety? I was considering mounting a scope with low rings and keeping the safety on fire. Either carry with magazine loaded and empty chamber, or round in chamber with striker decocked. Mine is a ‘48 M98 640 in 8x57. It has the express style flip up sights. Was considering leaving it unscoped, but I hear the accuracy is so good that scoping it will take advantage of the potential with handloads. Thinking Nosler 200gr partitions.

    • @Riflechair
      @Riflechair  5 років тому

      Nosler 200gr is a great choice. I agree with your eval of the safety. One just needs to be smart about it. There are a lot of low flag safety options out there too that aren't very expensive to consider as well.

    • @marcogram1216
      @marcogram1216 6 років тому

      It depends on barrel length and barrel diameter. A long skinny whippy barrel needs some contact at the end to make the barrel whip consistent. A short, larger diameter barrel can be free floated because it doesn't whip as much. The Lee Enfield as well as the Swiss K31 both use pressure bedding at the tip of the fore ends.

    The death of the Husqvarna rifle production was a shrinking national market (most hunters already had high-quality guns), competitive prices from low-cost nations, and low margins on the guns. Husqvarna is an old company, they have made a lot of products throughout the years and have stayed in business by not being sentimental. If they can make more money by dumping a product category and make something else they will. Husqvarna is all about a broad and highly adaptive product portfolio. If it makes sense for them to make guns again they will.
