Finally some 3D-physics-animation video with actual sound and a person who explains some stuff
future iterations of this wet hair system will be essential when we create a simulated universe of our own....continuing down the infinite line of universe simulations
Shampoos marketing department is gonna love this.
5:16 maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline
That’s makeup not hair products. Congratulations on looking like an idiot for over a year.
JBroMCMXCI okay. Congratulations for looking like an asshole for over 4 hours
I started watching this video with interest, I ended-up watching it like a soothing art piece.
wonderful work, I can only imagine how this will impact the augmented world that we will all be living in.
*"please enjoy the following results"*
You don't have to *ask* for us to enjoy things that are amazing...
見ていて飽きない
Can't wait to see a videogame with simulation this accurate.
THAT was cool and impressive!
That's so realistic! Very, very impressive!
man i cant wait to sit at the very front seat on a cinema to see multi scale models for simulating liquid-hair interactions
great research!!!!!!
This is amazing
Amazing!
This is extraordinary work
beautiful
Отличная работа! Это сделано в Гудини?
Could this be used for simulations of wet cloths by interweaving hte hairs before starting? or does the simulation only work with hairs standing straight out from the source
We have another research project working on wet cloths, which will appear on SIGGRAPH 2018. The details will come soon!
Would it looks better with more hair and with a random distribution of parameters (placement, length, thickness...) ? It doesn't look realistic enough for real world application.
That's cool but can you do a male pattern baldness simulation?
I'll never use it, because it's not my department (I am more into game development), but this is really, really great stuff!
In a few years it might be
I can't wait for GPUs to be powerful enough to perform these simulations in realtime. I'd give it 5-10 years.
I'd say we are close. Injustice 2 is a bit uncanny, The Last of Us 2 isn't too uncanny.
@@smartmineofficial bit longer than that, id say more like 20 years
My CPU exploded just watching the video
You would be mad trying to render this using only a CPU. This is what GPU rendering was made for
can macs even do this, I think I’m looking at dual Titan x’s right now
Will it be implemented in Houdini or any other Symulation engines?
What do you think about Quantum computer, could they go far enough to create the universe with all its details in we have in seconds of loading time and render it every 0.00001* seconds?
impressive
use this to study the best way to dry hair
What is the acutal software, being used for that? Looking for "SIGGRAPH" leads always to the conferences.
We wrote the actual software, which can be acquired from our Github repository: github.com/nepluno/libWetHair
For some reason thia is oddly nostalgic
5:41 I can smell the CPU burning from here.
i wonder how your aproach would work on hairs of different lengts.
It can work on hairs of different lengths innately.
Holy o.0 wow..
Интересно, сколько времени это рендерилось?
Мы сделали рендеринг на ферме рендеринга. Для рендеринга потребовалось один день для самой большой сцены, в которой использовалось приблизительно 200 процессорных ядер.
Imagine game consoles being able to download a game file with ultra realistic effects like these...
cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
"Thank you". No, thank YOU!
But can I clean it?
nice dog
This is cool and all, but it's got a sort of uncanny valley feeling to me, and what I'm guessing is causing it, is by how little hair there is on the objects. I don't know if you guys toned down just how much hair would be on an object because the technology to do a normal full head/body of hair mixed with this technology isn't there or something, but because of this choice, it makes it seem a bit weird.
Yeah we have limited computational resource and as a result we can only prototype something with less number of hairs. It would be better if the National Science Foundation have more funds on computer graphics projects and thus we would be able to use supercomputers or buy more machines.
@@fyun0acm Ahh, I see.
But can I render it on my phone? For 30 seconds? Not days?
Unfortunately nope. This is for VFX houses who usually use render farms. Algorithms available for mobile devices may appear in the future.
@@fyun0acm Hey, I'm a VFX student and I was wondering whether any of the VFX houses use this tech or something similar that you know of? They all use Houdini now but they may have made in house plug ins. Ta
@@billbobjamjamjr Yes, Alita's hairs for example.
@@fyun0acm noice thanks
Please make it real as a free tool one day. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!
Not a tool yet, but it's free and open source: github.com/nepluno/libWetHair
I can smell my shampoo.
5:03 looks just like my dog
LIL PUMP
Thumbnail look like famous dex
This is too much to grasp , wow
we live in a simulation. we're just sims, the question is how are we able to know if the programmer is still there ?
Razvan T lack of bugs despite increased stress testing(high energy physics) implies frequent patches
Ok
Thats maori hair
but where is the comparison to real hair.
Way too rigid. Hair is much softer and lighter.
The thumbnail looks like it’s from Minecraft
meh.
Although I barely understand how this actually works, I'm amazed at how good and realistic this looks.
Dont worry, just shut up and keep buying your CG heavy movie tickets
nice dog
imagine that one day games would have such accurate hair physics
In 20 years for sure
@@2gaspoo237 That's what I thought 20 years ago.
Sink is getting clogged just watching this : p
This is exactly what I have been looking for, thank you!
Fuck yea! I have been waiting for this for like forever.
Jesus, its time to get back here. We now have realistic hair water simulations!
Amazing, it looks so real.
Every single simulation tests are good for future games
5:03 Funny looking dog... incredible work tho, great job !!!
Oh man this is awesome
Did anyone else think of lil pump when they saw the thumbnail
Awesome work!
My GPU cried thinking about rendering this video in 4K. Would this be a plugin for Maya, Cinema4D, Smoke... or simply for the sake of Science?
Mostafa Maneshi I cant get my head around Blender yet, UI looks like the inside of an aeroplane cockpit and the controls are unlike anything else I’ve tried
@@MostPixel they do different things. Just because something is free doesn't mean it's automatically the best. These freaking blender fanboys
Blender's such an overrated software, and absolutely not the standard in any production pipeline, it's good for knowing the basics, but as soon as you get into professional work, you'll ditch it.
@@SIN1941 it's actually pretty great for a free software, if you look at some of the work made with it.
What's really annoying is the fanboys, saying that all other software is inferior compared to blender. Like everyone's stupid for buying those other software
@@randomcommenter6734 Oh, don't get me wrong, I've actually seen work of people on Blender, I mean, it doesn't replace any of the other softwares out there, but a software's just a tool, if you can do something amazing in Blender you'll do something amazing in Maya, Cinema4D as well once you get around the UI.
My comment is on the same understanding as you, Blender fanboyism is just annoying for the 3D industry.
Physics simulations are the new ASMR!
I wish I had something like this to use!
Sooo awesome.... Respect.... So damn awesome
This is amazing !
When will you guys integrate this in Maya ?
This is STILL the most impressive tech demo, I've ever seen. Even, the wet interactions between fluids and fabrics from SigGraph 2018 weren't as impressive as this!
The new "Grudge" movie has quite the budget..
This was interesting. 👍
This is insanely incredible.
**Not a single strand of hair was harmed in this video**
Awesome. How long was the rendering and on what system?
Thanks. The rendering of the whole video was done in a week on a 384-core render farm.
I am thoroughly impressed! How long did this take to render?
Thanks. It took about 8-12 hours for one sequence to be rendered on a cluster with 240 CPU cores.
Raymond Yun Fei How much do all of this cost?
We are so very near the singularity.
2:23 Wow great job guys! The one on the left is so realistic!
очень круто
Ъ
Wow, When did computers be able to simulate stuff this good ?
*sound of fans furiously starting*
Finally, I can simulate wet hair?
These simulations can be used both for video games and movies?
It is not real-time. So I guess currently the movie industry is more interested in it.
btw, in real life some Curly hair are like glitched physics because they don't seem to get wet.
Wave check
why is the single strand a pube?
some people have curly hair dumbass
this should be implimented in games -_-
waste of resources
Maybe in the next 2 gens of cosoles we'll start seeing this!
Does somebody know how to make such QR's? 6:10
It's called Halftone QR, which has online implementation: jsfiddle.net/lachlan/r8qWV/
Thanks!
hair be like
i learned one thing from this video... we will be able to animate the best porn ever in the future.
Thanks. That would be great. People love porn.
Great. Modelling of interactions between hair and water instead of modelling protein design and folding. Bethink of this everyone, when dying.
Jesus. Fuckn. Christ.
Not realistic enough. Needs to be on some food
