WORLD'S FIRST MTB BACKFLIP TO FRONTFLIP CAVEMAN - THE STORY
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лют 2021
- Many of you have already seen the Design & Conquer series that I spent last year producing with Red Bull, where I wored on worlds first tricks that have never been attempted on a mountain bike. The feedback on the whole series and the final edit has been nothing but rad, from inside and outside the MTB community. This is a much deeper insight into the story behind this tricks, that has never been attempted before, and I had no idea how difficult it would truly be to land this to dirt on my jump bike. Here's the story that took me from the skatepark, to my slopestyle compound and ended up on the full course down in Devon to get it done. Sorry again for the swearing!

Months of hard work in just 33 mins! We're damn proud of you for pulling this one off 🙌🔥
yo can i get a sponsor???
@@davidbullock8805 Me to
Matts Definitely one of your best ever riders! Also if they get a sponsor then il have one as well 🤣 professional sponsor for what I don’t know we will work that out in my contact 😉
oh its you again whats up lmao
Are Matt and Ben gay? They seem like they are.
Can we just take a moment to respect Matt's bike (and Matt) for dealing with every crash like a champ!!
and matt
@@carbinetzu7413 lol
A commercial for Marin, indeed it was ;)
And his back
Yep
Your work rate is an inspiration, I’m standing here, aged 35, getting emotional at a guy trying to land a trick on a mountain bike… legend
Hahaha.... yeah!! Im 44 and actually shed a tear of joy when he finally landed it!! xD
@@ChristianTornholmLehn Ditto and I'm in my 50's
Same here... Definitely shed a tear of joy at the end. What a team!
All I could think about was just holding my bike and jumping off my roof a few hundred times (not even trying a trick) .... taking that slam over and over. And ever time he slams, he still has to carry his bike and CLIMB back to the top....
337 times!!!!
Holy shit!!! The conditioning of this man, is insane... I'm 35, I spend "a day" at the bike park (more like half a day) and I'm completely destroyed for the next few days.. and I only wipe out a couple times...
He gets kicked in the teeth 337 times in a row, and kept smiling and trying.
I personally feel every needs a friend like Ben. All the supports he gives you is unreal and hypes you up so much. Respect to Matt for landing the trick 🙏
Damn that is soooo true, in times your trying to push yourself. A hype man can make all the difference. Much love
We can also all try to be a “Ben” type of friend at times
It’s so cool that you never give up on anything. Keep doing great stuff
Thank you!
@@MattJones OMG, YOU NOTICED ME
@@runebloemen6506 hahagagagagagahhahahahahahha
Yeah your awesome 😎👏❤️
Why aren’t you using ur new bike
Props to Ben. Such a good mate with his constant encouragement. Every tiny improvement met with a "YES OMG MATE!"
Idt people quite understand the complexity of this trick! I mean if you know physics, then you will have a better understanding. But just the fact that he's trying to stop forward momentum on a dime, yet have straight enough legs to allow fot the rotation of the bike alone is insane. Then as he let's the bike keep its forward momentum and to help twist the handles back to help gain momentum in the opposite direction, using the bikes momentum to also carry himself into a full rotation. It's quite beautiful when you really think about it! Tbh, I think the hardest bit was fighting physics on that log. Because there's a lot of force being exerted on his legs because he's not only catching his weight but trying to stop the enertia magnifies his weight. Once u understand that, and then understand what it's like to do that with bruised and exhausted legs. THEN AND ONLY THEN CAN YOU TRULY APPRECIATE THIS TRICK, AND HIS DETERMINATION AND PERSEVERANCE! Congrats Matt!
When you watch him do the backflip onto the logs so many times it almost starts to look easy then I remember I'm too scared to try a backflip into a foam pit and I realize again what a next level rider Matt is
Never gave up. Looked like u had contusions at one point. This was beyond dedication. Very impressive you should be so proud of yourself matt!! 🙏
It’s so much more interesting to watch the effort put into one trick than the trick itself. From now on I will appreciate every edit I watch
Edit: . I know you probably won’t respond to this but I’d just like to let you guys know that on my channel I have uploaded a video that is a vote between you and Sam Pilgrim. It is just a friendly vote and I would just like you too check that video out it would really mean a lot. Also maybe you would like to tell your followers about this so they have the chance to vote as well!
The company that makes his back wheel need never make an advert again.
Except that I don’t know who that is…
@@cduemig1 he rides for halo wheels
for real
@@marc7799 hahahha halo wheel you think this was madness you have to see pilgrim to understand how that damn wheel it's better than than the T1000 😆 🤣 😂
I don't know any brands of high end rear wheels but I immediately knew it was a Halo thanks to Sam Pilgrim. Funny
Came here to see a flip, saw it was almost 34 minutes. Ended watching it all, and really wanted it to happen. I'm not even interested in bikes lol. Great vid.
Matt Jones: I’m going to to a backflip off a deck
A couple days later: I’m going to do a front flip off a deck now.
A couple months later: I’m going to do a backflip then a front flip off a deck
A couple of months later: now im gonna back flip and front flip in mid air off a deck.
Matt, I have to say how much I love you and your content! 😂 it’s kept me from going to some bad places and has inspired me too do some awesome stuff. Thank you mate!
that's so kind to say, thank you! Keep your chin up dude and focus on that awesome stuff
I agree-the dedication you have is so amazing!! ❤️👏
Yes
The great thing is how supportive Ben Grist is, that is someone who really cares, keep up the good work
100 % so good a great mate
The way he injures and hurts himself but still gets up and shakes himself off and goes back for another go.......this is way WAY beyond dedication he is an absolute athlete, much respect👌😎🙏👊🔥
This whole trick is going to be called worlds only ever
Amazing how you never gave up after being battered and bruised! Congrats on the worlds first!
The persistence of this man is amazing. Well done Matt.
Dude!! Tears in my eyes at the ending as you just rolled away. So hyped that you got this after all the pain and punishment.
same. teared up and was actually fist pumping.
Never mind writing his name in sand, hes writing his name in cement. Matt jones is the most exciting channel on YT always got new content and new skills absolutly amazing
Absolutely agree!!!
anyone else love the fact moose was running towards matt every time he was landing the trick
Likely one of the last times we’ll see Moose around here, unfortunately :(
Why
@@Djs8b Matt and Rebecca aren't together anymore don't think
@@sambell4334 oh 👌
Mousse?
when all the flips are cut together like this, the battering is horrific. Kudos to Matt for his resilience and resolve.
If you want skills progression, broken down into 1000 component parts for the win - then Matt just aced a MasterClass ! Pretty much the most Impressive thing I've ever seen. Pure tenacity (&blood, toil, sweat&tears)
The red bull episodes of this were epic. I am loving these 'behind the scenes' training videos!
Hi bike and beyond
Yes never give up mate you will make history
Matt and Ben and all those that helped - that's a massive achievement. Huge amount of work and effort went into that - total respect to you all. I actually cheered when you made it - that was a journey.
Hi Matt I saw your last video where you suggested an Alcatraz Give Away. Getting would mean the world. I have been following your channel since you only had 20k subs and have loved to see your progression. I have been stuck with a 2015 Specialized P.26 dirt jumper for almost 4 years, though I am getting to the point of a new bike. Marin seems to be the best dirt jumper at the moment and getting one from my favourite rider would be amazing, Cheers from Tay.
Geez Mate, Good Luck 🤞
Give the Man his frame!
Attempt 69 he finally spins for the front flip 😂
I know right !!
He knew he had to
attempt 420 he lands it
lol i saw that aswell
Nice
I saw this on a red bull Post, sick flip mate
How exciting for other people to see this! To watch him crash and crash and crash but to get up every time and try it again! He did his utmost best everytime he went out there and his hard work paid off. You go Matt. That was probably the coolest trick I've ever seen and to see the grueling process was inspiring! Congrats man, congrats🤩🤩
This was absolutely eye opening and humbling to watch. Thank you for taking us along for the journey. You took a beating getting there and made legendary status because of it
The amount of work that goes into these tricks is just insane. The perseverance, bravery and skill is just ridiculous. Love seeing these insights bts. So much respect for you Matt!
Man, I’ve never seen anyone put this much work into doing a trick, you are a special person to be able to keep doing this. It does make me appreciate the final edit much more seeing all this work has gone into it.
So happy for you Matt and i love how supportive Ben is.
I'm a 44yr old man and attempt 144 had me screaming at the telly. Mr. Jones you are an amazing role model. You must make your parents so proud. Keep up the good work.
It’s insane how Matt can just repeatedly crash super hard and never give up
I love how you never give up and are so determined to do a trick
when he lands on the ramps the sound is just so awesome...landing with a BOOM
That was unbelievable! Talk about never giving up to achieve your goal. Amazing effort Matt. Also big up to Ben & Jono for their amazing support & encouragement. Matt, you must be buzzing after that 🤟
I love bens constant enthusiasm he always manages to put a smile on my face and his laugh is hilarious
Not ignoring Matt obviously who has done an amazing job
You remained confident and determined that it was possible the whole time, and that sir is why you achieved your desired result. Very well done! 👏
Congratulations!! Thanks Matt form sharing all your hard work with us!
Looking forward for the next one ☝️
Matt, you're a massive inspiration. Never say die, never give up (and still smiling) What a legend !!!!
These are my favorite videos so far. We all see the final product and think "yeah that's cool" but these show the massive dedication that it takes to be at the top of the game. They also show that this stuff is actually really hard and needs to be worked on rather than come up with an idea and fluke a landing. Huge respect Matt. Well done.
Congratulations matt 🤘🤘🤘🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
'Giving up' does not seem to be in Matts dictionary!! Incredible Matt, amazing work.
Are we gonna see The Story of the Wall ride......so wanna see you landing that
Honestly the best video you’ve put out Matt, you can see the passion and determination clear as day here! The emotion in you voice is catching! Big respect. 👌🏼🤘🏼
You should be so proud of yourself, you’re resilience was outstanding. I’ve no doubt a very emotional journey with lots of pressure. I’ve also no doubt it couldn’t off been done without your friends and bro by your side. If you read this, I feel super proud of you. Cracking effort.
So inspiring for all of us Matt!! 🙌
Matt's dedication to his tricks is most inspirational and a driving fuel for anyone pulling stunts and learning to take the pain to achieve success.
Matt, thanks for sharing this video. Anyone that has ridden any style of bike can appreciate how damn hard this really is. The amount of work you put in even on the first half of the trick that you have accomplished before just shows that its something not many would try! The second half is just wicked to even think of. Can't wait to see the full video cut of the Worlds Firsts Tricks!
This is so inspirational, the way you never give up and keep going, Matt Jones keep up the good work bro.
What a legend! This shows what it takes to have an extremely unique world first under your belt! I can’t wait for the next one, I know you’d have something in mind
I don’t even have words to speak after watching this. Matt was the reason I started mountain biking and every time I watch a video like this, I get so inspired again. Keep at it.
Matt Thank you for the hard work effort and time you put into this to give us joy to see you doing the trick. Made i appreciate the effort.
Love design and create it’s so good love it great vid
I DID THE SAME MOTION BY PUTTING MY HAND ON MY HEAD CAUSE THAT IS SO IMPRESSIVE YOUR THE BEST MTB FREESTYLE RIDER EVER!
Bro you are a warrior for all those crashes and falls. You still manage to do it. This is a true sign to never give up to something truly passionate about
This is beyond belief. Absolutely stunning. Enormous amount of hard work and pain. Result is EPIC!
Dude. Congrats to that. This is so inspiring and incredible. Btw: also props to Ben who filmed this bts like an awesome documentary and pushed you with his crazy motivation ❤️❤️
0 Dislikes thus far... Probably the first video I've ever seen without A SINGLE ONE!!! Proof that perseverance pays off, this. Well done, Matt!
This is just insane Matt!! I have so much respect for you and your persistence! Amazing!
That trick was so incredibly awesome!!! All that hard work paid off. It was so cool witnessing the trick and showing the process made me appreciate it that much more
33:37 and on the 337th attempt
Serious commitment, congratulations Matt
Totally crazy
Man u just got my deepest respect and made me appreciate hard training athletes in this sport even more.
I loved this video and was hooked til the very last second xD
To see how much is possible if u train hard enough just makes me wanna ride my bike even more and get better step by step
Got completely swept up in this video the final few goes almost jumping up with excitement at how close you where to landing it , and when you finally nailed it, just amazing so stoked for you, next level riding.
I've been following Matt's 3 world's first journey and knew these tricks were hard and yet this video made this trick feel like the impossible trick it was..... MAD RESPECT!! Keep pushing the limits
The editing on this one was really well done, smooth and helping the video along nicely. Great job Ben(?) or Matt or whoever.
Jesus I can’t even imagine trying something like that 337 times
What an absolute legend
Just started watching your content and loving it. Huge respect for pulling that trick off and great to see the process and support behind it
Amazing, i am a new big fan, love the hardwork and determination of the whole team, pushing boundaries ahead of the rest
That dog was like “HeY GuYS HowS IT GOiNg!😀”
Do twitch or UA-cam livestreams! You guys are incredible funny and with a chat calling tricks and talking to each other the community would connect so much i think.
This is nuts! I can not express how impressed I am by your will to stick this trick. Amazing!
This was the best 33 minutes of my life ! Absolute unit! 🔥🤟🏼
I love how moose runs to Matt after every attempt
THE “COVER PHOTO” ON REDBULLS UA-cam! CONGRATS MAN.
Hell yeah! Thanks for sharing all of your hard work in this video and congrats on sticking the landing!

This is like watching 'Edge of Tomorrow'.
"On your feet, maggot!"
So incredible Matt! Huge respect for that whole process - the amount of tries is immense!
I have NEVER watched so many failed attempts with such enthusiasm and hope for a successful outcome. Just awesome!
Watching his bike bounce off after every attempt is heartbreaking lmao.
Can we just appreciate how much that bike went through
I have a new appreciation for the tricks you guys do. You make it look easy but in reality, it takes days and months.
I applaud your tenacity to make this work. Just insane- but totally believable watching the process on how you approach. Great job!
I'm so confused about the timeline of this project
long and punctuated with bruises.
Basically a year bruv
It's actually all happening in the future
@_BOOGY_ give me evidence that Ben is in fact not a time traveling wizard.
@_BOOGY_ You serious?

Looks like Matt, speaks like Matt... Holy crap this was sooo confusing. I had no idea he had w twin :D
BRO. Absolute legend. The determination is so inspiring, congrats on landing it!
Hell yea Matt!!! What dedication u have!!! U are def one of if not my favorite bike rider on UA-cam!!! Such a positive role model for everyone! I know this video is a yr old but i still wanted to watch it again and comment on it! 🤘🤘🤘
First why did someone and only this one person disliked the video and secondly Matt succeeded to start a front flip on attempt 69 (nice)
He cheated on his fiancé
No respect for him anymore
3 dislikes must be accidental , I mean who could dislike this inspiration 🤙🤙
You’re a freak! Your skills, dedication, mindset - all freakish. So too is the brute strength of the Marin! Incredible effort. Congratulations Matt
I was a downhiller and was never really into jumps/tricks other than drops and gaps and I can’t tell you how following you for a while Matt how unbelievably relatable you are!! You had me hooked even gasping at times when you bailed or took a tumble! You make it almost like watching your friend on the screen it’s so inspiring!
When ur watching a Brendan Fairclof video and u see a new Matt Jones video
