- We're taking a short break from our European motorhome adventures in search of sunshine. 🌞
There's no denying the diversity of nature and overwhelming beauty of South Africa. The West Coast region usually comes alive when for a few precious weeks each year - from mid-August until end-September - the fields, farms, wetlands and dunes of the Western Cape burst into a magnificent riot of color as the wildflowers come into bloom.
But there's more reasons to visit than just to see the flowers and in this video we show you the stunning coastline at Jacobs Bay, the historic 'Bokkom Laan' of Velddrif and end at the kite surf hot-spot of Langebaan.
ABOUT US:
Welcome! We’re Andre and Lisa. A married South African couple (with some Italian roots), who have been travelling together for almost 20 years, to more than 40 countries. In 2017 we took stock of our life, made the decision to 'retire early' and gave up our professional careers and all our personal possessions in order to explore the world as full-time nomads. Over the past two years, we have been travelling through Europe with our 20-year-old Motorhome. Please subscribe to follow along and join us on our adventure!
You can find our blog at www.wewillnomad.com where we post regularly about the destinations, we visit along with travel tips and what we spend on travelling.

Thanks Rosita, lovely to hear from you! Keep well 😊
Loved the matching blouses.😃😃😃👍🏼.Scenery in South Africa similar to the west of Ireland.
Connemara with blue skies and sunshine ! I do see what you mean mind. Sorry guys, I preferred the beach (Jacobs) when you visited it this time when the ocean was angry. It is indeed stunning.
Thanks Michelle! We still have to make it to Ireland one day!
Hi Ronan! I guess the angry ocean does give some character!
When you come to Ire, I will give you the tip for east cost once Michelle knows the west. 😅 cheers
Welcome back, but with all the loadshedding it is even difficult to be on vacation🙈 "Spekboom cake" sounds interesting 🤔 If you are looking for a lot of wind, West coast is the place🤭

Do you guys not have the surf report in SA? Here in Oz, most of our coastal radio stations have the surf report where they go thru the surfing conditions (eg tides, off shore winds etc) of the major beaches in the area - usually coincides with the weather report.
With regards to food prices, I think a lot of ppl will be adding SA to their budget travel list now.
Although I'm surprised there's not a lot more reliance on solar power - I realise that fuel generators have higher output but if that was me I'd rather rely more on solar panels and reserve fuel for cooking. I'd pick that over all that noise! (Although it'd be a lot harder in winter)
For the popular surf spots around Cape Town there usually is a daily report. The West Coast north of Cape Town has very few spots popular with surfers. We usually only pay attention to wind and tide for kite-surfing for a handful of spots.
Wrt the power, many homeowners and business are 'investing' in solar and battery solutions, but it comes at a huge expense. Up till now there has been no support from government, restrictions on private generation and no grid-tie ins. For a small apartment to have a basic battery & inverter system to support most of the house for 2-4 hours a day will start at 4000 USD. For medium sized houses (who wants to add solar panels to generate and not just store) will start around 16000 USD. Generators are a terrible but quick and 'cheap' in between fix.
Lastly, yes we also think SA is cheap on many fronts. Food, drinks, restaurants etc. Even more so considering the ZAR lost almost 9% this year alone to the USD. However, tourist accommodation is pricey, and you need a car.
@@WeWillNomad thanks for the tips. Interesting
Lekker om jul in Afr te hoor🤣, mis jul Italië trippies.
Dankie! Moenie worry, ons sal binnekort terug wees in Italië! Wag net tot dit bietjie warmer is. 😝
Interesting comments about the power shortages. Have a brother in Durban (my ex home town) & he complains about the same thing.
How safe do you feel in SA? My wife refuses to go back for a holiday or any other reason because of the crime.
The scenery looks brilliant, not so sure about those Hawaiian shirts though ;)
So far this year there has not been a single day without blackouts. Not a good omen with winter around the corner. Safety where we are on the West Coast is less of a concern, but we have no appetite to venture much further. Some parts of SA are just fine if you understand the risks. But the reality is, this is a country where you will get killed for a cellphone when on a hike around Table Mountain. Although we call Cape Town home, we hate the feeling of constantly have to be on alert. 😔
What! No sharks! Was hoping for that.
🤣 Oh dear. We never made it to Shark Bay in this video!
@@WeWillNomad Don’t go in the water! We need you back in Europe.
What was the second song on the radio? We're making a 50th birthday playlist and looking for good ones....
"Love Changes Everything" by Climie Fisher 😬 50...!!
Hi Thank you for sharing part of your home country,I do intend going there although even South African don't recommend it.
It's not all as bad as some make it out to be. No country is perfect, but we sadly have to admit that certain aspects of SA can pose a risk to travelers more than most places. We would still recommend Cape Town and surrounds - but we're somewhat biased.
Can your selfie-stick also be used as a fishing rod?
Maybe it will work better than our last fishing rod! 😝
Thanks for the lekker video - the West Coast is so special
Glad you enjoyed it, we love this place! 😊
