    That was a fairly reasonable Ica Nära, pricewise. But the "Nära" profile is made for lower revenue, less customer flow and so on, so it needs to be a fair bit more expensive to show black figures on the last row. The Nära you were at has a turnover of 55MSkr and has it's nose barely above water to make money, and to me it looked like it was suffering from the pain of growing and lack of space.
    Noticed that you were looking at the "Baked" dates on the bread... For the Pågen one that showed 31:st (I believe I heard you say that it was the 1st) was that mornings bread because they are made and shipped all across during nighttime. I can get these "lukewarm" in the morning where I live, even if the baked date is one day behind.
    The ICA Maxi is the best alternative in Sweden due to the mix of range and price. But if you want just lower price, and a lot of "private label" (cheese and motoroil under the same brand) then the choice would be Willy´s and after that Lidl, but on the expense of a fairly tight assortement.
    Otherwise it is the same as everywhere when it comes to prices. The inflation is pounding all parts of the supply chain and the correction in economics will be felt for a while, because now the wages will go up anf therefore prices will continue upwards but ptobably not in the same pace. But there is still A LOT that can go wrong in that part.
    Very nice video! 👍👍👍

    Well, you're shopping in the most expensive stores of the ICA brand. ICA Nära is the most expensive one followed by ICA Supermarket which is a little less expensive, followed by ICA Kvantum, again less expensive and finally ICA Maxi which is the largest supermarket and the "least expensive" of them all...
    For my own needs I prefer Willy's though... They have two types of stores, Willy's and Willy's Hemma. Willy's Hemma is smaller and more more expensive than Willy's... as an example, the pick&mix candy as shown in the video costs 99 swedish "krona" per kilo, while at Willy's the same candy is at 79 swedish "krona" - and that's just the candy... 😉

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  2 місяці тому +2

      Great explanation, thanks for that👍
      We usually shop at Lidl and find that more cost effective.
      Joking aside, Wendy does not really like the “Big Willy’s” 👍😀😎

    • @simbella99
      @simbella99 2 місяці тому +2

      Willy's prices are in the same range as Lidl, some even cheaper, and a larger assortment at that. Willy's also have their own assortment brand "Garant", high quality, yet cheaper than those bigger brands out there...
      You also have Coop that works similar to ICA, that is "X:-TRA", (in a way similar to Lidl), is the cheapest followed by Coop a bit more expensive and finally "Stora Coop", the so called flagship, (large supermarkets)... The word "Stora" translates to "Big" by the way...😆 Coop is more expensive than ICA, but that's because they have high demands on the entire production chain in terms of environmental impact, wages and working conditions of the producers, etc...
      Hemköp and CityGross are two other examples, both of them too expensive for my taste... CityGross offers high quality swedish meat though...

    You know. Most Swedes speak English. Ask where the raisins are. Thought I saw the Sun-Maid brand in the aisle. And do visit the bigger ICA Kvantum or ICA Maxi when you get closer to some bigger town. Cheaper than the small locals.

      I think the few items we bought were not the most expensive things. If you start adding in meat and other items then the weekly shopping would be about 50% more expensive.
      This of course does not take into account the higher wages and higher living standards here in Sweden.
      If you're visiting from the UK you'll find it expensive...

      My parents and grandparents they live true the war in Germany and many times they just had potatoes to eat ,depending on the season . They did had a couple of cows so milk was always on hand.
      I don’t think we will starve but I do feel for younger family’s .
      Mind you they do feel deprived of not being able to eat out ,going to a movie or not having a steak to eat.
      I reached 😂age 76 and find living without a lot of things is a good thing.
      We all have more than we need but I also know we cannot live like our grandparents.
      Electricity is expensive and so is petrol. So are taxes .
      I just saw a newscast from Venezuela and compared to them we live like rich people .

    Ah, Digestive Biscuits… this reminds me, that when you get back to Spain, I love the Spanish Gullón brand Digestive Muesli Biscuit (in a yellow box). It is less sugary & more fiber filled than the traditional English digestive. I am spending loads of money to buy imported ones on Amazon. 🫤 A big, national retailer, here in the USA, used to regularly stock them for cheap, so I got hooked on them - lovely, dipped in hot tea or coffee! Sadly, the retailer stopped stocking those, a few years ago.
    Food prices shot up exponentially, like real estate & other things did, during & after 2020. It is obscene!

    We have an unhealthy expectation in the uk to have cheap food so we have money left over to buy pointless crap like door bell cameras or to watch endless TV. We should be more realistic on what good food costs and what proportion of our income should be spent on it.
