Wake was always a consummate professional. I don’t recall ever hearing complaints, gossip, off the field issues with him. None of it. He came in, he did the best he could, and he left it on the field. Based on who he was as a person I almost wish he had a better career because he’s a hall of fame dude, if not player. Need more people on every sport like Wake.
I think it was 2011. The Red Sox were struggling, in a losing streak at home. They went on the road, starting in Oakland. Manager Terry Francona called Wake into his office, Tim told him he knew what his assignment was: to go as long as possible to give the bullpen a break. He pitched a complete-game two-hitter, which began an 11-game winning streak, culminating in his third win of the streak in their return to Fenway, got them back into the race.
Yeah I'm saving this video. Nice story that really exemplifies who he was. I already miss him. Friggin cancer.
This is the best tribute I have heard! You nailed it! RIP Tim Wakefield
