I can't even comprehend running in 40 degree heat, let alone a 50k ultra! It's been 25-30 in the uk this week and I'm struggling to get out! I don't handle the heat well and normally wouldn't even try to run in it, but I've been so much more consistent over the last 6 months and I don't want to back off now. Great effort!
High heat and humidity humbles you very quickly! so well done for grinding it out! For future reference, probably not such a good idea to play with a dead snake, especially a deadly venomous one - as it's just as capable of biting by reflex.
Ha ha thanks buddy. It’s all good, in John we trust, he’s a biologist with a degree in Zoology. What he doesn’t know about reptiles and weird creatures isn’t worth knowing 😂
Oh my the heat 🥵 its a deffinute no go for me. But somehow you made it look 👀 easy Ben. Indredible 🏃🏼♀️ run. Have a lovely race rest both of you. An amazing start to the year. You both crushed it 🏆🏆
Two weeks ago I did the Noosa 80km Ultra Trail. 50km in I got bad nausea. But I just pushed on for 30kms until I crossed the finish line. Noosa is sub tropical and normally cooler than my town where I live, but midday sun and recent rain meant high heat (30c and 80% rh). It’s amazing what you can achieve when you are determined.
So very true. Our minds are the toughest part of us if we train them right. We love Noosa. I had a few surfs there when we were there in 2010 🏄🏻♂️ 🤟🏼😊
Did a race recently the same distanfde but with less elevation and less that half those degrees centigrade and it was tough so can only imagine what this was like! Super running and well done for slogging it out 😅
Fantastic effort Ben, love that you did the hardest run of your life and your next thought is "I can't wait to go bigger". Nothing better than that invincible feeling! 🥳
The heat!! The hills!! And the distance just make it all so tough. Huge respect for getting through that. I don’t know what’s going on though with a distinct lack of bal-car-ny chat!! 🤣🤣 Well done Ben, enjoy some rest now 😊😊
Ha ha I totally forgot. That’s all on a brand new camera and lens and mic etc so I was so focussed on making sure it all worked/recorded that I forgot bal-car-my chat 🤦🏻♂️😂
Great effort Ben. That looked absolutely brutal. Stunning scenery but that heat must have been a killer. I’m definitely thinking of doing a 100k race next year🤔 just not in Thailand 😂
I was wondering when this would come out, Mary on her vid said she was worried about you guys. Beautiful torture. Fantastic achievement. I am glad you raced with John 'each other to lean on'.
Thanks so much. Yes it was another level to anything I’ve ever experienced and I’ve run ultras in mid 30’s but that was literally like an oven. Disgusting 🤢 😂
Congrats on your race! And look at Mary winning again. I am doing the Thailand UTMB 100km too (assuming the borders remain open!) I would love to see your training plan.
Awesome! Would be great to meet you. The plan is being formulated as we speak but it’s basically just a slightly elongated marathon plan and a purchase of a treadmill with incline 😂
Well that looked sooo tough. Ben you look a lot thinner in this video,i wonder why. Well done for just gettong to the end. Just out of intrest how much fluid did you consume and were there enough aid stations, it actually looked dangerous. I went for a 24 mile training run yesterday for my 50 miler in July and i couldn't open my fingers because of the cold and rain so pretty much the opposite to you but i know which i would have chosen. Enjoy your break, tine to reset, you both deserve it. All the best from freezing but sunny Wales ❄🌝🌝.
@@ThisMessyHappy I've used them for a couple of 25 mile ones this year having got them at Xmas and the good carbon fibre ones fold in seconds plus you can combine with a quiver for easy access. Game changer for me.
Fun docu, thanks for sharing. Making me terrified for my upcoming 50km 3700m+. Hopefully not quite as warm though. Well done on your race finish, such an accomplishment. Quick Q - did you use an external power source for your garmin or did it hold up ok for this distance?

Thank you, Jean 😊
Cobra!! Well done Ben👍👍Congrats!!
Incredible 👏👏👏
You guys have earned your April break. You certainly suffered for your passion. Well done

Bloody hell Ben. That looked a but tough. Excellent effort. 💪💪👊
Wow well done Ben! I can't imagine doing that course in that heat! And Congratulations to Mary as well!
Great job Ben! I can’t imagine doing that and not dying! Mary rocks!
Fantastic effort Ben. Many congratulations. Enjoy the break 👍
Wow that heat!!! Congrats to you all for living through it!
Thanks Jana 😊

Everything off camera was basically me swearing or crying 😂 thanks Kerrie 😊
What an adventure and effort Ben! Thanks for sharing those beatiful views. Enjoy your race break! 😀

Totally! It just reconfirms what we all already know… our body is very capable of crazy things, we just need to make our mind accept that!! 💪🏻😊

Awesome video, you’re a better man then me as I’d be PISSED for getting 11th. Enjoy your downtime from racing.
Ha ha you wouldn’t if you’d done that. You’d be happy you were alive and it was over 😂
Really well done 👍 you were still able to create content as well as running in the heat the hills everything against you. Fantastic views well done 👏
Thanks James! Only just 🥵😂

I’m definitely thinking of doing a 100k race next year🤔 just not in Thailand 😂
Kudos for finishing in the furnace...imagine if you we racing today instead of last Sunday....much different experience...probably better...555!
Ha ha yes just one week more would have been amazing!! What’s next up for you?
@@ThisMessyHappy Ran Bangsaen 42. The oven is returning so just trying to keep active . Maybe try and enter some road races later.
Well done Ben that did look brutal, those hills and that heat wow. You both definitely deserve a rest 👏👍
Thanks Andy. Yes, r&r is the order of the day right now 😊
I was wondering when this would come out, Mary on her vid said she was worried about you guys. Beautiful torture. Fantastic achievement. I am glad you raced with John 'each other to lean on'.
Thanks John. Yes I doubt we could have finished it without eachother. Brutality to the max 🥵😂😊
Amazing effort!!
Thank you, Mallory 😊
WELL done buddy! That’s some soul crushing heat!!
Ha ha perfectly explained, Alex 😂
Well done Ben! Great achievement in those testing conditions!
Thanks so much, Riz 😊
Awesome stuff Ben 😁 certainly looked brutal 😬
Thanks Kieron 😊
I absolutely love running in the heat but that looks too much even for me!
Well done. :)
I live in Miami, FL and the heat is overwhelming (especially as I get older). Can't imaging going that long in over 100 degrees (F). Great respect.
I love Miami, John! But yes, it’s tricky to train in this weather 🥵😂
Great effort , the heat is a killer.
Thanks so much. Yes it was another level to anything I’ve ever experienced and I’ve run ultras in mid 30’s but that was literally like an oven. Disgusting 🤢 😂
That level of heat is just BRUTAL. Impressive that you guys finished
Thanks Ira! I’m still getting over it 😂
Congrats on your race! And look at Mary winning again. I am doing the Thailand UTMB 100km too (assuming the borders remain open!) I would love to see your training plan.

100 km? Wtf lol i cant even run 10 kn
That race looked brutal! Congratulations on another amazing race!
Thanks Kim-Anh 😊
Nice run. Bask in the torture. Makes monsters.
Big love for this comment 😍
Incredible effort Ben! Not sure I could’ve coped in that heat 🥵. I did the Goodwood marathon yesterday in a much more comfortable 11 c 😊
Oh that’s the dream nowadays! 😂 thanks 😊
After doing a 100k ultra last year there is just something mega about them!
Yes. It’s the distance 😂
Going up a hill like that is down right silly... have a race like that next week 😀
Ha ha good luck. Yes it’s stupid, but at least we’re all stupid 😂
Madness! 25C is way too hot for me! You guys are amazing!
40 deg and in the sun!! That sounds brutal! So how have you adjusted your water consumption plan for the increased heat?
Well that looked sooo tough. Ben you look a lot thinner in this video,i wonder why. Well done for just gettong to the end. Just out of intrest how much fluid did you consume and were there enough aid stations, it actually looked dangerous. You know its bad when John says it's brutal....😂. Have you thought about trail poles? It really helps with those hill climbs.
Ha ha yea totally. I knew it was bad when John said it was 😂 I’ll consider piles for over 50km I think. Not worth the faff for less.
@@ThisMessyHappy I've used them for a couple of 25 mile ones this year having got them at Xmas and the good carbon fibre ones fold in seconds plus you can combine with a quiver for easy access. Game changer for me.
I ran 15km on Koh Samet in Thailand and that was the hardest run I have ever run .The heat and humidity was brutal.
That’s so crazy, I’m on Koh Samet reading this!! When were you here?
Very well done on finishing and 11th is quite an achievement. Out of morbid curiosity, how do you get back if you decide to DNF at say 36km?
Thanks Guy 😊 there’s a sweeper truck that takes DNF’ers from each water station. So you at least have to get to the aid stations 😂
I don't know if it sounds fun to live in Thailand.

HI, i've never had a hydration vest before, how do you measure for size? I'm a bit confused. Thanks
