The Cybernetic Ensemble is a project of Nicola L. Hein that investigates the musical improvisation between human and machine. Using approaches in AI, Hein is able to make the robot musicians musically interact and improvise together with human musicians.
The piece investigates the cybernetic formation of musical structures and musical improvisation
in real-time, blurring the lines between artificial intelligence and human creativity.
The live interaction raises questions: How creative can robots be? How quickly do they “understand” and read the resulting musical situations? What can AI mean for our creativity in the future?
And: What can artificial intelligence sound like?
In the interaction of human and machine, a joint piece of music full of autonomous creativity develops - respectfully, attentively and with subtle depth.

that's very interesting and I like the setting and all this cybernetic instruments. Did you and if yes, How did you feed the AI for interacting with your improvisation or is it a random process out of your control?
