Adventureelliot vs travel scapes who wins? Same question how about either you or travel scapes go to the Texas border to see how army is doing along with the border patrols
I use to live in Southern California and often went to Tijuana with friends for the day when I was younger back in the '60's - '70's. I moved away from the West Coast to the 'Heartland' many decades ago. I found your video interesting but I do have to say that from what I see, not a whole lot has changed much in Tijuana over the last 50+ years - same tourist areas, same squalor, same friendly people.
We had a vacation house that my dad built in the 90’s when I was in the 4th grade near in otay mesa tijuana. Those were some really good memories going to rosarito beach and eating affordable good food.
I'm a gringo living in Tijuana for 10 years if you're looking for trouble believe me you will find the trouble it's all around you like any City but if you respect . surroundings and be aware of who not to talk to
I was in MacArthur park LA and made a video there after this one. All i gotta is LA is worse and more dangerous and unpredictable.. people don’t have respect anymore. Mexicans are respectful.
The gringo Elliot was talking too at that restaurant 19:37 looked exactly like the gringo dude in my dad's lowrider car club that's filled with Mexican Americans and the gringo talks like a Chicano and knows Spanish as well and knows the Mexican culture very well! He's respected very much ❤.
There's ads on Craigslist for work where you apply. And they place people inside of your car in Tjiuana then they want you to cross the person inside the trunk. Be careful when looking for work in Tijuana.
I think maybe the Mexican people overall in general are just wonderful people full of hospitality, but unfortunately, the cartels just ruined it for everybody
Elliot I do say you have some huevos walk-in g around with a camera like that in Tijuana. FYI that video in Barcelona where you helped chase the pick pocket guy 😂 was epic. You’re doing things hombre🫡
Was in the Navy at North Island back in the early 90's. Had a lot fun in TJ, take the trolley from downtown San Diego, walk across the border. No Cartels back then, still a little rough.
? early 90s had some of the most violent gulf cartels lol, it's even worse when Obama got in and armed bunch of them, now it's very bad. 1990s was Arellano-Felix organization, TJ cartel.
Sir, there was indeed a cartel back then circa.early 90s in TJ but you didn’t notice it because there was no need to be noticed, No turf wars or low bottom feeding dealers in every gutter corner. All wholesale to the states without destabilizing the community. one cartel that made the atmosphere peaceful in TJ and didn’t sway tourism. Now you got like 5 cartels fighting for a piece of the action in the city.
Yup stationed at 32nd street naval station in the late 90s and had no problems for the most part Tijuana was fun back then Yeah cartels weren't really an issue back then. Now days not sure I would want to go there. Also back then a lot of the street girls and in the more discreet strip clubs there was a rather large amount of underage girls. I saw 12 to 13 roughly stripping back then we would see that and just turn around and leave.
We love Mexico and the people in Mexico......they're always nice, friendly, and polite. Lots of beautiful places to see in Mexico....lots of great food and Tequila....lol
I like the way you talk to the people with respect and that's why they tal you the same way. And you have very good additud that help you❤ so TJ is not so dangerous right? Sure if you go to danger and dont respect for sure you get in trouble. Thanks for your video.
DEA run the cartels. Obama had Fast Furious, Bush had Wide Receiver, that's where USA was smuggling guns into Mexico, to "track" them. USA says it was only a few thousands of guns that they smuggled into Mexico, but AMLO showed how Mex calculated that USA smuggled over 5 billion dollars worth of weapons into Mexico. Mex government sued USA gun makers. CIA used to run Mexico since the time of its intendance, up until 6 years ago. CIA had the Merida Initiative... USA increase violence in Mexico, and then US sends help to fight crime = billions for USA weapons makers. Drug money goes to USA banks. ...and Mexico is doing much better now, no DEA, CIA, FBI, etc. allowed to roam freely in Mexico. Average of 6 toms of drugs ceased a year during AMLO administration, compared to an aver of a quarter of a ton during previous administration. AMLO stopped and reverse the upward trend of violence, make key arrests. ...and so much more. AMLO and Trump ended Obama's drug war, USA is moving the drug war to Ecuador.
19:29 that guy just brought me back. I was born and raised in LA and I drove into TJ for the first time in I want to say 1999. In those days, you crossed the border and were met with hundreds of non-official “police” lining the sides of the hills as the cars drove by, all with their rifles pointed. They would randomly stop cars and demand money, goods. It was terrifying. I guess those were the days…
Greetings from San Diego, CA! Not trying to be one of those people who have to correct everything but wanted to mention that it is pronounced "Tijuana" and not Tia-Juana, which would be more like saying Aunt Juana. A lot of people add that extra "a" sound when it should just go Tijuana (no additional sound between that "i" and "j" - I clearly do not know how to present this phonetically and once again, my intention is to simply point out a very, very common mispronunciation. I do not speak Spanish fluently however my husband was born in Oaxaca and moved to the States legally when he was around eight so when we were first dating, he corrected my pronunciation. This is the first of your videos I am watching and I am enjoying it thus far. I wish you well in your continued travels and UA-cam productions.
As a teenager in the mid 60's living in S.D. Tijuana was so safe for foreigners a group of us would sneak across to the Mexico to drink and have fun. There was really never any fear that arose from getting shot, that climate didn't exist. It was possible to find trouble if you looked hard enough but I never did. As an adult up until I would go with friends a couple times a month to TJ for dinner and brunch as far south as Roserito beach and while car thefts did occur it was still a fun and safe place as long as you knew your place. Today that has all changed with the cartels, step out of line or just getting caught in the crossfire is an everyday occurrence. After living in the interior of Mexico from 1996-2000 I consider myself lucky to have experienced it in better times as today I would not consider crossing the border, it is not much fun if you have to constantly be looking over your shoulder and sometimes not even that is enough to keep you safe. Thanks America for becoming a culture emersed in illegal drugs allowing the cartels to flourish and also a thanks to all the MD's who over prescribed opioids for a few decades and then turned off the spicket forcing people to seek the now scourge of the nation, FENEYNTAL.
You capture the amistad and warmth of the Mexican people in Tijuana. You mispronounce TJ several times: It's "tee-wanna" (2 syllables) not "Tee-ahh_wanna" (3 syllables).. Most of us gringos make same error until we are corrected. The interviews were so brief at breakneck speed. All is very rushed, but I know that the first few visits to Tijuana are always rushed because we're curious, excited. and a bit scared. Keep going !
Elliot, I went there once while stationed in San Diego at a Navy School in the 70's. It was a rough place then, but your right, there seemed to be an unwritten rule NOT to mess with tourists. If you stayed on the main streets, weren't looking for drugs or other "things", you were good. Interesting place, but I'd never want to go there again.
If you go to Hong Kong, Chicago Club, etc. You will be fine, just get dropped right in front and when you’re done get a ride back to the border to cross over. When you go walking around or driving around, you’re risking it. Been visiting TJ since 99-00 and never had any issues because I don’t go looking for trouble or negativity. Calle Coahuila is pretty safe in my opinion if you stick to the tourist spots.
As a kid, we would go to TJ all the time with just me my sister and my mom. It was usually really cool, ifact never had any problems! That was in the 90's.

Tijuana is my favourite place the guy in your first video I talked with lots when I was there on the strip, nightlife is wild gotta be careful
La gente de Mexico siempre es bien carinosa y se da de querer.

All fun and games untill your dick falls off lol. Not literally.. but definitely catching an infection.
There is no letter ‘a’ after the ‘i’ in Tijuana. Learn how to pronounce it properly and the locals will have more respect towards you.
We all have to learn somehow. Hablas Español? Dime lo que me quieres decir en español y te presto atención y te tomo en serio.
Giving that poor woman María 1$ for an interview that will yield you way more than that is selfish af.
The Hong Kong is a Johnny come lately place. Adalitas and Chicago were the places. Calle Coahula runs parallel to Revolution and Condtitution.
Lot safer than a weekend in Chicago!!
