    When comparing welding technologies the way to think about laser welding is that it can penetrate deep but narrow and has a smaller heat affected zone. With settings and technique correct it can provide a faster solution to many welding scenarios. Yes to pipe yes to butt yes to various metals including dissimilar and so forth. First know that it uses light only to melt the metal. There is no arc. You can weld behind glass. Prices are higher but tech is deflationary. If you are a small or medium size fabricator you need to take this serious. Amortise the cost through finance just like you do with your car or other equipment without hesitation. With a shortage of skilled tig welders you might find that a semi skilled worker using laser at 4 to 10 times the speed might make economic sense.

    용도와 사용처에 따라 달라질것 같습니다
    사실 용접이라는 작업을 많이 하는곳에서는 레이저용접기를 들이는것에 고려해볼 사항일수도 있지만 용접이 주가 아닌곳에서는 아직까지 스틱이나 티그 또는 코어플럭스류가 대세이지 않을까 싶네요 말씀하신것처럼 물론 시대에 맞춰가려면 레이저 용접기 라는것이 존재하는구나? 가 아니라 실무자 분들은 반드시 조작요령이나 원리정도는 숙지해야 한다고 봅니다

    Thank you for the video. Been following the industry for a few years, and the prices for laser welders actually seem to be moving up, not down. There only seems to be one company in the US that is really pushing a viable solution and that unit cost $25k+. I hope the prices do start to come down because I really want to buy one of these.

      Laser welders have been coming down in price around 5% per year but unfortunately the 20-30% rise in just about everything due to inflation and supply shortages have resulted in a net price increase. Prices are starting to come down so hopefully laser welders too. I would love to get one for my shop too.

    I think there's probably another big advantage, less reject welds and scrap material. I've inspected welds, most in the nuclear industry, and when there's a bad weld there's almost always two scrap components and the material is lost along with the labour and macining time it took to male them. Less skill involved and a more precise process must reduce waste and boost quality.

      @patdaly5769 Рік тому +1

      There are significant safety issues, we have been trying to implement laser welding in our shop, and to be honest, we will not use it until we figure out a way to stop reflected beams. It is entirely too easy to skip the beam off the material and burn something you don't want to. The first day we tattooed the bill on a cap a guy who was watching the welder do his thing. Perhaps they can get away with it over in China, but not too many other places. GREAT ability, you just have to be able to use it safely. I think this is why only one US company, IPG Photonics is making a hand held unit.....

      Special laser glasses must provide protection that is above the the strength of the laser’s beam.
      If the lens of the glasses has a scratch don’t use them.

    Id love to see a video where you take this new technology into the field and do a 24 inch pipe root weld with it .... new is not always better ,,, and now the new 2023 model is out , be glad you didnt just buy the 2022 model ,,,

      It surely won't replace stick, mig or tig entirely just like mig didn't replace heliarc or stick. But it will be handy in some operations like sheet metal fabrication, instead of fiddling for hours with tig it will be just a quick pass like it was shown in the video.

      You'll need a bigger machine for that. Not practical in the field. This one shown is good for smaller tubing and finish work. It is not for building ships

      @@darrinjones9387don’t say that. Just look at the size of pipe welders mounted on trucks. They’re pretty large and usually include their own gas or diesel generators. These might not be bigger. Besides, it’s a new technology. Give it a few years.

      @@melgross they have BIG ones in China, they just aren't portable because of the cooling systems required. Most of these laser machines are designed for factory work. I have one on wheels but it weighs 450#. It takes me and my husband every ounce of strength to get it off the truck. A smooth factory floor is required to move it around. And this machine is one of the smaller ones

      @@darrinjones9387 sure, big ones, smaller ones. Normal. But I was welding back in 1973 when we used 400 pound transformer welders. My current ones put out the same power but weighs 50 pounds. Technology improves. These will too.

    Do laser welder still require shielding gas like argon? It's obvious that laser welder makes no sense for hobbyist, the machine is expensive. I think a well trained TIG welder, using cold TIG (or TIG spot) mode, can still weld as good as laser on thin metal, it will just take much longer, which for hobbyist is not that big of a problem. I don't think TIG makes that much sense for production though, too much skills required and all that.
