Good job protecting that chassis.
Rust never sleeps!
Good to see you getting blathered !
Nice clean truck that one. Handy with a forklift and tall stands.
Sure is!
Having had my defender 24 years and done the chassis three times I really think painting is the best. I’ve had it waxoyled twice and used an equivalent myself, they just make a mess and it still can rust underneath.
I never use Waxoyl - and how do you rustproof inside the chassis?
Inside yes no choice for that other than something to spray
I agree, my 90 has had waxoyl twice and most recently Dinitrol, but my 110 I've just had cleaned/stripped back by a garage, then I've spent quite a few evenings doing a proper rust primer and paint, painstaking led under with a brush, but worth it I think, topping off with a lanolin based spray which I'll get in the chassis as well with an aerosol and tubes.
that is a freaking nice looking 90, even the door jams are straight! Have you considered rustproofing yourself before power-wash...
Good idea!
Nicely done, thanks Mike!
Thank you too!
That’s a bit too nice for a Canadian winter!
Indeed!
Just arrived from Italy, so she hasn't seen a Canadian winter yet, definitely wanted this done before her first!
@@bobbyturcot If it was mine, I’d park it up over winter. I’d hate to get salt all over it.
@@carltonr3417 Yeah, I definitely won't be taking it out when the roads are all freshly salted and the temp is near 0 (ie, salty slush everywhere), but i doubt i'll be able to completely resist taking it for some fun in the snow! (I'll also probably leave it in the country over the winter where they sand the roads instead of salting them).
@@bobbyturcot fair enough. It’s fantastic underneath, would be a shame to see it any other way. Enjoy your new vehicle
Pretty clean 90 Mike, they're a neat little Landy, should last a lifetime once it's all cleaned and protected.
Exactly! Protected, that little bugger will be still on the road in 25 years time!
Need to do my 2008 110 at the weekend, good jet wash, degrease and needle gun on any crusty bits.... the joy of Land-Rover's!!
Have fun!
IV done 500 miles in year and new britpart steps gone rusty
Wow! As long as that!
Nice project!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Somehow in a weird way it reminds of a Benny Hill show.
a bad design is the cross memeber for A Frame ,The gussets on chassis rails , mud and crap just stays there , I welded plates over them
I seem to think the RR and Disco maybe had a round tube in there
Gwyn Lewis makes some good pvc/acrylic panels which cover over some of the biggest mud traps on Defenders, with a bit of imagination you can make your own. I bought some sheets of 3mm black pvc/acrylic and using cardboard aided design templates made panels to line the rear wheel arch preventing some mud being sprayed onto the fuel tank and those gussets on chassis etc. preventing road spray, salt & muck from being thrown straight into the rear crossmember mud traps has got to be a good idea.
I did this job in august and it was horrible to do. Prevention is better than cure I suppose.
Yeap - a lot better than welding patches ....
Looking forward to seeing more vidoes on this. Have you any experience/comments on using dinitrol rust converter and chassis paint?
Dinitrol is very similar to Krown rust proofing - sadly it is not available here so I cannot comment
apart from the Australian military ones where there any other land rovers that where galv dipped?
I think the very first S1's were
wouldnt it be easier for you to let the cleaning have done by a professional carwash service - and you just do the finishing - man, just looking the video makes me feel wet and freezing. you should learn to take of yourself and dont waste your energy on jobs like this.
and if this is not repeadet before and after winter season, and i really doubt anyone do this, rust makes its way anyway. you might slow it down but you never stop it.
hopefully this beautiful 90 wont see salt in his lifetime. its to beautiful. but again - i doubt it.
but an admirable job king mike
$200 an hour cleaning at a truck wash! The wax I am using is great - creeps a bit but for the inside chassis I mix a bit of Krown in with it so it creeps better - never lost a patient yet!
Has anyone ever used an actual steam cleaner, how terrifying are they?
Frightening - I use mainly hot water rather than steam - - you cannot see real steam
@@BritannicaRestorations I remember my dad talking about it in the shipyards in the 60s. It worked really well if you kept your distance.
Hair cut?!
Yes - it was under duress and anaesthetic…
You didn’t wear a rain hat to protect your haircut. Hey; on that note, I’ve noticed these past weeks, how all around the world, men’s haircuts have taken the same style as yours. Isn’t it amazing how fashion trends flow so as to make everyone look alike. 👍🏻🙏🦘
Mike is a real trendsetter
Lol! Don't tell Debra!
LoL!
