Thanks Eric, Budgie was a favourite from the first hearing of them, Got to meet Tony Bourge in Wick a long time ago when he was in the group Tredegar. They played this track too and though I missed Burke Shelly's singing it was still very good.
I was still at school when I first got the self titled Budgie album, a few years later playing the cassette recording of it in my mate's car, it came to the track Homicidal Suicidal and the way the drums and bass build on each other coincided with the resonant frequency of the speakers in the car and blew the cones out, he refused to play anything by Budgie after that :)
Yes! Finally a review of a Budgie song, by someone who knows what they are talking about, and understands and appreciates the talent and significance of Budgie.
But please, don't leave it like this, Eric! Treat us to at least 3 more of their amazing songs. Thank you for doing your bit to right the injustice of Budgie's anonymity.
I Roadie for my friend's band "No Quarter" who were the support band for Budgie! This was about 26 years ago!! (Great Gig!!!!!!) As an artist, I love the artwork by Roger Dean!! Thanks for the reaction!!!
You're right, that's such an amazing hook/riff. I love the way he keeps it going as the other instruments come in and kind of take the forefront.
I've been a fan of these guys since the '70s, and their album "Impeckable" has been among my favorites forever.
Ahhhhh. Part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. My sister got me hooked on Budgie. I think of driving the back roads of Wayne county Ohio, smokin a joint and blasting this song. Thank you!!!!
Gosh, haven't heard Budgie in 30+ yrs- thanks Allicat.
Love 70's rock and heavy metal 🤘🤘🤘
Been a Budgie fan since the mid 1970's. Hearing this back then was a cosmic revelation.
Well, I’ve never heard of them, and they’re great!Kind of reminds me a little of early GFR
Great drumming, and a rocking performance. Then it soothes at the end.
Good old times 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
best played loud
You were correct about the album title. From 1973. Baby Please Don't Go was the second track on the album.
👍👍👍
Great show and fine analysis, thank you, Eric! Tony Bourge said in an interview that this song felt like rugby with a guitar! Btw, they did 11 albums. I also enjoy this cover by Ningen Izu: ua-cam.com/video/lZD9QVYK9Cg/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
I, of course, know the song and the band via Metallica. Never actually seen the band before. The singer looks like the lovechild of John Lennon and Geddy Lee.
Melody is what is missing in most of modern metal. I don't understand why.
It's one of the reasons I like Nightwish is the composition and also why I took to Iron Maiden - before Bruce joined them.
@@Alicatt1Absolutely. I never cared for the screaming. Symphonic metal is now my go to
First gig I ever went to see as a 14 year old... Gillan (Ian Gillan's solo band), supported by Budgie in 1981. What a way to start my live music journey 😊
