Calvert Cliffs State Park Fossil Hunting & Solomon's Island Museum & Drum Point Lighthouse

Join us as we go Wandering Out Yonder in Maryland. In this video, we venture out in the remnants of Hurricane Ian to explore Solomon's Island, visiting the Calvert Marine Museum & Drum Point Lighthouse.
We then proceed to Calvert Cliffs State Park in Lusby MD and hike out to the Beach to hunt for fossils!
These cliffs dominate the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay for approximately 24 miles and were formed over 10 to 20 million years ago. They were formed when all of Southern Maryland was covered by a warm, shallow sea. When the shallow sea receded, the cliffs were exposed and began to erode. Today these cliffs reveal the remains of numerous prehistoric species ranging from fish to birds.
