When I was a kid, an aunt lived very close to your spot now. This was back in the very early 60's. We would find so many shark teeth on the beach. The beach was backed by sandy clay cliffs, and we would dig in them and find fossiled shells that were huge. That was one of my best memories as a kid. I wanted to grow up to be a paleontologist.
YAY!!! MY TWO FAVORITE FOSSIL HUNTING UA-camRS IN MY HOME STATE!!! I LOVE MATOAKA AND CALVERT AND HAVE BEEN THERE SO MANY TIMES!!! YOU AND HOPPE HUNTING ARE THE BEST AND I WATCH YALL ALL THE TIME!!!
About time you made a video about calvert cliffs. I live across the street from where you are hunting at and have been walking the cliffs for years. The big teeth are hard to find. But I assure you that people find them. A truly awesome place.
I lived in MD for 2 years and while I did explore the area I never went hounding or treasure finding. Missed opportunity. Fantastic video and a new treasure finder to discover thanks!
Woooo hooo I used to live out there. I found all kinds of whale bones, croc/shark/ray teeth, rocks, but never the illusive Megalodon. Glad you mentioned the fossils are in the walls of the cliffs and end up in the Bay through erosion.
The second I saw the thumbnail I clicked cuz I was like I know those cliffs! I also know that road he drove down. You never forget that road, those potholes are killer
My first time watching you and you are at one of my favorite places. The approximate 2 mile hike to the cliffs is also great. Maryland is a great state. I am glad you are enjoying one of its many great locations. Thanks for sharing.
You were so in awe Kyle, it's such an amazing site to see. I grew up with the same clay formations and balls too (In Australia). I found many a fossil over time. Those shark teeth were something else, so pristine like they fell out yesterday.
Cool to see you hunting in my home state of Maryland. You should try coming up in fall/winter, on an early morning tide I get dozens of teeth, a lot of times a small meg too!
@@WILDKYLE Awesome! I’m friends with a local that lives one the cliffs and they allow me access to hunt there, PM me if you would want to meet up for a hunt!
Where did you guys drive in?? I went to the state park before but don’t remember driving on any trails and the red trail walking trail is about 2 miles which is trying with two little ones
Absolutely awesome! Thank you David!!!! The arrowhead was just incredible! Love you Kyle!!!!! (Btw, you were at Jekyll recently, and, um, I live in Darien, and, um, you didn't come see me. I'm a bit sad 😢) 💜💜💜
Calvert is my main hunting ground. We actually camp at matoaka! Dont get to do it a lot but SOOO glad you got to get up there. Such an awesome location!
Wow Kyle, that was insane! And the artifacts right at the end!?! What a day! What a two days! Insanity! Wow! And your hemi's are gorgeous! Tha snaggletooth is my favorite type of shark tooth! I like them even. Even better than the meg! I know, blasphemy! But it's true! And they are always the coolest tooth found! Lol! The only tooth that beats it in my opinion is maybe a cow shark tooth. But that's it! And only because cow shark teeth are so rare to find! Super cool two days; those shells were amazing! I will check out David's channel and subscribe! Thank you David for taking Kyle and his camera out to the fossil spots! Awesomeness! Thanks Kyle and David❣️
The bamboo was introduced as a landscaping plant and can be invasive. However, whenever we have pandas at the Smithsonian National Zoo, the local area provides a sufficient supply of bamboo to them. For some landowners, feeding the pandas on a regular basis is a great way to keep their bamboo from taking over!
So awesome to finally see you up in my neck of the woods hunting for teeth in the Calvert formation. I always have a hard time finding teeth at the Cliffs. There are other places in the area that are better for finding teeth. Can't wait to see future Maryland videos!
Great video!! Really nice finds too! When you go to Calvert and some other areas around there, you will have better luck finding shark teeth if you take some sifting screens with you. I live 3 hrs north of there in PA. A bunch of us go down there a couple times a year. You will also have more luck a day after a storm.
Kyle! So close! Glad you came and hunted well in Maryland. Love that beach, fossil crab claws, amazing ecphora shells (maryland state fossil), sand dollars, moon snails, shark teeth...but def only a few shark teeth each time. hope hoppe showed you some other good Maryland spots! Travel home safely
Wild to see something in my feed about where I grew up. I used to walk up and down these shores all the time as a kid back in the 90s. You can get to some secluded beach spots that way. I remember you used to be able to walk freely in places but then some little kids died in a collapse and a bunch of spots got closed off. Some spots are 30-40 feet high of sheer clay wall, scary to walk against knowing all that can happen. I stick to kayaking nowadays. Good to see y'all out there!
I went to this exact beach with my family in June of 2023. The weather that day was calm and crystal clear, there were barely any waves breaking on the shoreline. Crazy how different it looks with choppy weather. We found some colossal scallop and barnacle fossils and a bunch of shark teeth, ray plates, bone fragments, and petrified wood. That and we befriended some locals who got us into a private beach with even more shark teeth than this beach or the state park. 11/10 trip, would highly recommend to any fossil hunters within driving distance of Maryland
Great video guys!!! I live a little North of there, always a joy to visit the cliffs. If you get a chance, visit Browns beach a little North, excellent spot for teeth.
Hey i was just at this spot at Calvert on Memorial day weekend lol I was sifting in the water and found a little over a dozen teeth, nothing huge tho.. still on the hunt for my first Meg!
At 16:20 , you should carry a magnet, those rocks look like metor broken pieces. Knowing one huge one did land in surrounding areas. COOL DAY KYLE, THANKS....THUNDER STORM HERE. PEACEFUL MICHIGAN DAY, SO MUCH RAIN LATELY. GREAT ADVENTURE.
The Randall cliffs. I lived in Chesapeake Beach for 2 years and I'm also from Florida. A lot of crazy history up there. I had the joys of working on a crab boat out of Abner's Marina. Fun times
There's a place below Upper Marlboro along the Western Branch Patuxent where older fossils can be found but the site can only be access during drought periods by boat .
I saw the thumbnail and was like ‘ is that…? Nah it can’t be…’ except it is 😂 so cool to see the Chesapeake bay cliffs talked about, I feel like they’re very underrated, tho I may be biased lol
I found a megladon tooth on the beach at the Scientist's Cliffs' housing development in Calvert. Found a lot of whale vertebrae also. A very good place to fossil hunt.
That was a fun video! I have actually seen some of hoppehuntings vids. I will sub now. I'm wondering if this small marks on that bone were from scavengers after the critter was already dead. It seems like too many little marks for whatever could have actually killed it right? But maybe some smaller scavenger type animals like smaller baby sharks or hag fish type animals would have cleaned the bones? Unless since you're finding native American artifacts as well, it was people butchering something with terrible tools or scraping the bones with their teeth?
Couple minutes down the road from me. People find alot of tuna bones , wahoos bones and mahi bones from when these fish used to be in the bay. Pretty cool
I see you dropped in at Matoaka Beach Cabins. I’ve been there several times. Stayed in the cabins once. Never really found any big teeth. Tried the Va side once. It’s 6 hour drive for me so I’ll stick to SC Meg tooth hunting. It’s only and hour longer for me. I do want to do another Florida trip and dive again. Good luck in your next hunt. Maybe I’ll see you out somewhere again.
Kyle if you would like to come to Rincon Ga we could take you to shark tooth island where we find vertebrae’s and shark teeth and more we could take you on the boat to it if you want.
I was just there in May! I didn’t find much at the cottages where you guys are but Flags pond and Purse beach are two great areas to check out. And westmoreland state park in Va as you head back south.
How are you able to walk the cliffs? My friend and I went yesterday and the State Park only allows hunting in that one little beach by the marshes :/. We also did Flag Ponds which was a bit limited. Which trail is that?
This was at Matoaka Beach Cabins. It's a privately owned access which means you are allowed to walk the cliffs. Of course you still need to be mindful of your surroundings and absolutely never dig into the cliffside. It's only a $10 fee for access for the day at Matoaka. Not a ton of shark teeth, but there are some, and tons of cool fossil shells!
I live 20 minutes from here we go to Calvert Cliff's and we go to flag ponds Park right down the street and shark teeth hunting is one of our favorite pastimes as a family. We have shark tooth hunted in South Carolina, Florida even Ocean City in Maryland on the Atlantic Ocean and honestly nothing beats right down the street!
Cool. There's a place on the Potomac river in Virginia where we look for shark teeth fossils. My little niece found a fossilized 3" tooth, very triangular like a great white, and being that big it must be a meg. I heard 10' of shark for every inch of tooth.
