    Got my ET450 and can confirm everything in this video with this one simple test:
    so, I decide to test the circuit breaker finding aspect of the ET450. I first use the two-prong plug adapter, plug it in, and ultimately set it to level three; even then, there were a number of false-positives with other circuit breakers. The one I knew was correct displayed the highest number, but I felt it was a bit too fiddly and slow and thought I might just hang on to my dedicated circuit breaker tracer.
    But then I recalled these videos. I replaced the two-prong adapter to the single-prong adapter inserted into the hot side of the outlet and the other I used the ground-pin adapter and plugged that into the (known good) ground plug of the outlet.
    When I went back to the panel, I only had to use level one sensitivity on the receiver and no other breakers signaled; just the one I knew was the correct one. And since I didn't have to run it up and down the panel or fuss about, it was far faster and more accurate than the dedicated circuit breaker finder.
    So one more tool to happily get rid of! (the dedicated circuit breaker finder thingy, that is).
    So, yes, the hot/neutral two-prong plug works and you can trace out a correct circuit breaker, but it is truly far more accurate to use the remote-ground method instead.

    It does de-energized too. Just like a toner. So it can replace a toner completely?

      Yes I used it recently the toner has a better reach just because of the probe length and this 1s being flat but it still works I like both Love this tool! not sure which 1st better

    this is honestly a great video knowing that I need to trace out some 2 prong outlets in my 'new' old house and figure out which way the wires are going to where the junction box is. This will help me a lot.

    Does this one trace shorts. I was looking at another one also, ideal electric sure trace which claims it can trace shorts.

    • @toolsandtactics
      @toolsandtactics  День тому

      yeah a shorts is just another word for connected where it shouldn't be no tracer will pinpoint a short it's all marketing you still have to do the work but the ideal is probably a better tool but I doesn't get much better than this klein so unless your making fist fulls of cash you likley dont need it and the gain will be minimal vs the ideal Ideal makes some of the best tracers though

    You said "The Power can be off with Toners". So, this Klein ET450 will NOT work on 110vac wires that are not energized?? Please clarify if this, in "toner" mode works with or without power on the wires. Thanks

    Wasn't sure what the mechanism of action was when connecting the black (COM) lead to a known good ground. So I did a few quick checks with an oscilloscope and found that the output (RMS value) of the transmitter approximately doubled. The interesting thing is the same thing happens if you just hold the black (COM) terminal between your fingers, the output approximately doubles therefore the signal being injected into the wire (which is a square wave at approx 33 kHz) also approximately doubles so you get a stronger signal on the receiver at the same distance along a wire. From what I saw; the mechanism of action has something to do with what the output of the transmitter "sees" not necessarily a known good ground. Maybe someone else could do something similar to see if my tests were valid.

    If I have the Klein toner kit, is there any point in me buying this advanced circuit tracer kit? I do resi service with some light commercial service. Trying to see if this is something I’d need for troubleshooting or if the toner will be sufficient

    • @toolsandtactics
      @toolsandtactics  29 днів тому +1

      if you are a pro and use it to make money yes get this kit, its an outstanding value for precision and works just like a toner. It can find breakers and can be used with the circuit on. We both know troubleshooting hot is way easier to find the problem, not that im advocating for hot work, but its true. cheers

      the instructions say it won't work on DC. correction, they say the Non Contact Voltage tester wont detect voltage with DC. not sure what that means for other features as AC/DC is mentioned several times. i just got this today. It also says the Transmitter is not needed in NCV mode. not sure what that means since i'm still reading the instructions.

    I ditched my Fluke 3000pro toner set to pick up the Klein toner rig you had suggested a few weeks back based entirely on your videos (and that you demonstrated the facts of the matter not just your opinion) and I had wanted to get this Klein ET450 several years ago. Just bought it off Amazon and will have it delivered in a few days and here's my question: is there any particular reason to continue to use the Klein toner set along with the ET450? After all, the ET450 can do both energized and de-energized circuits while the toner can only do de-energized ones.

    • @toolsandtactics
      @toolsandtactics  3 місяці тому

      That's a great question. I would have to play with it more to really know that answer for sure but individual wires you will get more sensitivity in a crowded box with the regular toner because of the light but the tracer will Narrow it down faster use the toner to pinpoint

      @@toolsandtactics Wow, thanks for the prompt reply! Yeah, I was planning on keeping and using both toner and tracer. And thanks again for the reminder of the toner light being the best way to identify the wire in question; so I'm thinking that for anything that I can de-energize, I'll use the toner and anything where I cannot de-energize a circuit or another unusual circumstance, I'll use the tracer. Or when identifying circuit breakers and don't want to carry another tool (like the numerous CB finders out there). I've got a number of those too, and now I can get rid of them.

    When you say "tracing" is so simple vs toning, do you mean using it on a live circuit to find the breaker? I dont get why you're saying the instructions say nothing about toning, when that's the whole premise of the tool and it tells you exactly how to do it in the instructions. Can you clarify why you said the et450 is not a toner or its not advertised as a toner. If its not a toner, what is it?

    • @toolsandtactics
      @toolsandtactics  3 місяці тому

      @gabrielramos3385 i did a live on this in more detail using the ground specifically and how it's useful because if the neutral is lost the circuit inst complete v
      Tracing is when the circuit is on and reads to identify the breaker.
