This is so weird. I'm happy but sorta, idk, disconnected from it. I thought homestuck was just dead now. It's been so long without content, how is this still one of my hyperfixations?!?
I wonder if they'll continue hiveswap again too.
@@untitled-gv3qp It's perfectly understandable. Being hyped for a story takes energy and once you get disappointed so consistently people just stop caring. Just like it's hard to stop caring about a story you like, it's hard to start caring about a story you no longer do.
I do not think this is the "Homestuck is fixed, we did it!" moment because if I'm being honest, Homestuck has a lot to prove going forward for that statement to be even half true. However, this is a big step in the right direction that could very well lead to it's redemption. Honestly it may be a bit of wishful thinking at this stage of the game (no pun intended), but I hope some revisions come out about the first part of Beyond Canon. Although I dislike what they did to some of the characters in the candy epilogues, one can somewhat handwave it because candy was in essence the corrupted, twisted fan vision for Homestuck. Once we got back into the old format, the inconsistencies should've been ironed out while still being relevant in a similar way to how Roxy was handled (candy did a disservice but it led to pretty good characterization IMO).
The biggest complaints are of course, Jane and Jade. At the very least I hope it gets better going forward for them.
This one thing that gives me hope is that homestuck didnt mess up in like, catastrophical ways. A botched sequel, a messy kickstarter - it's actually pretty common for franchises to hit dry spells like that.
For me the worst thing was the allegations against what pumpkin coming out, but this new sequel is written by a collective unrelated to WP (also unionized.... Which undoubtebly has to do with the workplace abuse allegations).
Idk i think james is a cool dude and he writes well, so we'll see how things evolve. I'm just happy the writers get a chance to continue what was started.

Given that my own personal fantroll is maybe like about say 1/4th a Gordon Freemen expy, this comment hit me a little too close to home.

When I heard that the comic updated I legitimately jumped out of my skin. I am coping so hard that the story will actually be good this time (Also massive Sollux W let's goooo).

Now, this update itself hasn't done anything to fix the problems, and the new continuation will be stuck with the stains of the old Homestuck^2 era story beats no matter what, but...
At the very least, that grating undertone of hostility does not seem to be there anymore. The characters are granted an ounce of respect, and the interactions are fun, especially the Sollux and John part.
I still have my reservations about all this, considering this is still at its core Homestuck^2, which I don't think can ever be completely fixed even with a god tier writing team. James Roach still has a lot to prove when it comes to his directorial abilities. I may have liked the guy's music, but that doesn't make him qualified to be a director... It does mean I am prepared to at least give him a chance, though.
Would you care to elaborate on what you mean by hostility? It couldn't have just been me and I'd like to hear someone else's take on it.
@@puddel9079certain members of the previous team(especially Kate Mitchell)were incredibly hostile towards the fanbase,especially whenever it came to ANY kind of criticism(and doubly so when they got called out on the disrespect they showed a lot of the characters,not to mention a few things that could be considered bigotry towards the trans community and making light of some really fucked up things like the pedo joke with Gamzee and naming a kid after a sex term). Mitchell herself was incredibly abusive towards fans,many of whom were minors,and it eventually devolved into a Hitler joke and her telling several people in different response to eat shit and die.She was eventually fired,but by then the damage was done,and it should have happened far sooner. Honestly,after that shitshow and just how horrible the epilogues and initial sequel were(not to mention some things in pesterquest being obvious attempts to cause problems),the entire sequel should be redone from scratch,and I'm very wary to trust any further content. If Roach and his team can genuinely do the comic good and rerail it,I may be willing to give it another chance,but at the very least the problems caused by Hussie and the former writers should be acknowledged and fixed if possible.
21:41 to be fair, he hasn't had the lisp since close to the end of Act 5 Act 2. Hopefully he had some dental work done since Karkat knocked his teeth out.

So Ultimate Robo Dave didn't cease to exist because of The Reader's actions in Pesterquest. Instead Dead-Tier Calliope was evicted from Dead-Tier Jade too. Is this because of Meat Jade's actions? Is this the end of the God-Mode Cherub?
Also nice to see Sollux again. I'm glad he remembered he can fly, so wasn't stuck on that roof-top.

I am... cautiously optimistic about this update. While the team change was *definitely* a good call, I don't think James and the new team are gonna be able to fully salvage this comic. It just has way too many issues when it comes to how Hussie and the old team were treating the story and characters. The fact that James said they're going to be more open to community feedback is absolutely good news though.
I feel like starting over from scratch would have been far better

I wonder what they're gonna do with this, cause at this point, they're trying to salvage and extremely broken, unsettling and highly uncomfortable story. Let's just hope they can try to rewrite the wrongs that were shown before James took over

I still want homestuck to be fully 100% rewritten someday (Dirk being the main antagonist is a must for me he's only good as a villian), but I really enjoyed this update. It had the right kind of sense of humor much better than the epilouges sense of humor.
A reboot maybe, but that might be too trendy for internet people
