i started playing guitar and noticed a strange pain on the tip of my right index finger beneath the nail. it seems that the lateral nail folds are too thin and don't hold the nail in place. so i had to cut it short and wait for it to regrow in the proper shape

Question, what's it called when a sliver of either skin or nail seems to spike up along the latenal nail folds? it's like a hard, pointy piece of skin that i fold back and clip of sometimes.
