- This video shows the early part of the quad-state tornado from tonight up through Monette, AR and Caruthersvile, MO. We also intercepted an earlier small cone with the first cycle near gravitron deployment. Very worried at the widespread scenes of damage that first light will show

Absolutely crazy how you can't even see the tornado unless lightning struck. Wow.
Like a thief in the night

Can you imagine being in the dark and hearing that and not knowing where it’s coming from..that would be so intensely scary!
Yes
It could be 1000 feet from you but you wouldn't know what direction it's coming from

Gave me chills just thinking about it. 😬
My mom and I had took our dogs in our laundry room, the sirens were absolutely terrifying and the sound of the wind was unreal. Prayers to all the families this impacted...
Oh yes, siren sounds are just terrifying. And yes, a tornado sounds like a train, rolling fast on tracks above you!
You pray just to make yourself feel good. Selfish act.
@@CooManTunes Really, my dude?? Let people have some comforts. There's nothing selfish about that.
@@gemini-vibes6118 Yes, my dudette. They can pray all they want. It's only for their own comfort, though. It's a selfish act.
You nailed every part of this. From the initiation point, to it being a historic event with long track violent tornadoes. Unbelievable.
Does anyone know if Weather channel went (or stayed) on last night during the Severe Wx?
@@drdoloresmize5386 I don't think so.
Team Dominator!
Reed timer is the tornado guy.lol
I had to do pizza deliveries in south county St. Louis with the constant sirens going off, it was quite the experience. I’m a huge weather fanatic and have been researching a lot on this years weather- I would like some input from other people here.
With the storms current still raging today in the east, we don’t know the exact number of current tornado touch downs- yet I’m thinking it may be a mirrored image to the 2011 outbreak-leading to our most likely a active winter season and a active 2022 tornado season. Anyone else have thoughts?
Because of you, I took the tornado threat seriously and made sure my family was safe. We are close to the Bowling Green area, thankfully we missed the worst of it, but it was too close for comfort.
Thoughts and prayers 🙏
Nice initiative !👍🏻💪🏼
🙏🏽
Glad you're ok, stay safe out there.
Hey thank you all for the kind words! My family that lives in Bowling Green were a few streets over from where the damage started. We are very thankful and fortunate they all are okay.
I heard you were in paducah Kentucky tonight and immediately left work and went to find shelter… because when reed timmer is in town you know a storm is coming. The factory i work at got completely leveled tonight and i missed it by minutes
Omg did you work at the candle factory where all those people died?

The night from hell. An absolutely historic tornado outbreak. Dozens of lives lost and hundreds more irreversibly scarred. Thank you for your life-saving updates and especially your passionate pursuit of extreme weather research @Reed Timmer.
When things go wrong, don't go with them
All outbreaks are historic lol.
The night of complete hell
I slept right through it here in Lexington, Kentucky...lol
Almost got hit but got missed by a mile or less and could hear it and had a debris ball on radar not just on cc but on reflectivity radar too and was in it
Thanks so much for everything Reed! I'm stuck without power south of Nashville right now after tracking these storms all day. I wish the best for everyone affected by this system.
I used to live in murfesboro
My daughter lives near Brentwood..she’s without power too. Said it sounded like a freight train when it went by..
Almost got hit by one of the tornadoes but got missed by a mile or less and could hear it and was a debris ball not just on cc but on reflectivity radar too
And later saw a cloud to cloud lightning bolt that branched horizontally
This Tornado had been unprecedented in Kentucky, the most surprising of all is that it struck in December. They often happen in Springtime NOT in December.
Our hearts go for all the victims and for their grieving families.

The Mayfield tornado?
@@ilwx ya. It was all 1 tornado, according to radar loops from the NWS in both Memphis and Paducah. Circulation never ceased and it never lifted. It only lifted near McDaniels, KY, after starting SW of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
The Supercell began back in Arkansas!!
@@jaredpatterson1701 correct. The first observation of the tornado was in Arkansas as well.
@@illogicalcanadian even if tornado warnings continually said “confirmed tornado” there’s still a chance it may have lifted briefly. I think about the Nashville-Cookeville Tennessee tornadoes and the Bassfield Mississippi tornado as a prime example.
Absolutely horrific, that tornado. My condolences to loss and everyone in the path of that beast
Thank you Reed for everything u all do, glad you all are safe
@J. Bernays You ok buddy?
Reed, thank you for all of your hard work trying to keep people safe from severe weather. God speed, and please stay safe.
( 24 ) And when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, "This is a cloud bringing us rain!" Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment,

Same but one thing doesn’t make sense. Why wasn’t the people warned in time. This tornado was on the ground a long time before it got here and still they didn’t let’s them people out of that factory were all of them people died.
Hopefully the god you pray to is different than the one that caused this to happen.

Same here!
We had a wild storm in Osage Beach, MO. Had zero visibility in the dark driving to Margaritaville. Had to pull over. Wind was howling. That storm was tornado warned 15 minutes later.
Had that same line further south and east come into Maries County Tor Warned, luckily it passed just south of me as i was in a mobile home, and boy was i ready to get out of there.
I was at the theater last night in osage beach and heard it rolling through (small world!) and could barely hear the movie, and the lights were flickering too. I hadn’t realized that it was going to be that bad. Hearts and prayers for the lives lost last night.
All too often, the siren goes off after the tornado strike. I listen to the weather and watch it myself.
Hope you'll stayed safe , from Australia. Kept up with the updates and seemed like a horrible storm especially for Mayfield.

This was probably the longest track tornado I have ever tracked on radar from home. I feel bad for the people affected. I hope everyone is safe from this rare event! Reed, I just wanted you to know that I have been a huge fan of yours for years! I hope you continue what your doing and have fun chasing these type of storms. I wish you the best of luck!
You could see IT clearly on the radar and I was like “oh that’s not good. That’s NOT GOOD…”
The Amazon Warehouse in Illinois made me so sad cuz I work at one here in Texas. I really can't believe how crazy this outbreak is.
on local news here in St. Louis, most of the building is now gone. fatalities have been reported.
It's just so insane to think that _WIND_ can just rip completely through a massive concrete building, like wet toilet paper.
I'm looking at the pictures and remembering a tornado that went right past my middle school in '02 while we were all sandwiched _upstairs_ in the hallways because the school was overcrowded. The tornado just obliterated half a YMCA, an entire Payless Shoe Store, and a bunch of houses on the way to the field adjacent to our school, blowing out every window on that side of the building and scattering all the desks and chairs, everything. That tornado was nearly responsible for destroying a school full of kids, and I've had a healthy respect and fear of tornadoes ever since.
It was the September directly after September '01. And the following September ('03), our state's governor died while in office. I grew up thinking September was just cursed.
@@SomeUA-camTraveler crazy reports saying concrete foundations were getting ripped up. That means you aren’t even safe in a basement against a tornado like this. Really scary stuff.
I have a custom raspberry mojito candle, as well as a peppermint wonderland candle ordered, and it BETTER get here on time! That’s all I have to say.... IT BETTER!!
@@illiteratebrian1707 I thought only an F5 class tornado would be strong enough to rip up concrete from roads was this an F5 strength tornado?
I still find it seeing a tornado being an event of Mother Nature showing her true power in all her glory but last night's tornado that might have broken the record that was set in 1924 all I can saw is wow..... my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that has been effected by the tornadoes last night along with the families that lost loved ones due to the destruction. Stay Safe out there Reed.

Reed, I've watched you chase storms since your early days. You my friend are a professional in every sense of the word, your actions no doubt saved lives. Thanks for all you do
First EF5 in 8 1/2 years? Deadliest tornado since Joplin 10 years ago? Longest tracked tornado ever? Those might be true, but I'd like to send my condolences to everyone and their families for everyone that was affected by these tornadoes that touched down last night into this morning. Reed, you've been a mentor for me, a blessing from god, and THE greatest storm chaser ever. Never stop chasing.
Joplin was still rebuilding a few years ago- it was so devastating..
I still convinced the Joplin tornado was a EF6, but due to many reasons they will never truly confirm a system of that rating. Even if it is “technically” apart of the Fujita scale. However my wishes to the people and families impacted by this tornado and the countless others that came from last night and still going fourth.
I have Reed to thank for my recent interest in tornados. His enthusiasm and knowledge is infectious. I watch Storm Chaser reruns EVERY SATURDAY, without fail!
Keep up the good work, Reed and I hope you won't be offended if I say that I hope I don't ever see you in the Louisville metro area because that means some shit's about to go down.
@Beanrock 124 So far the strongest ones rated were EF3, however they are only preliminary ratings and are still under study. The extremely violent long tracked one still hasn't been rated as of yet, but it's a possible EF4,EF5. The last EF5 was Moore, Oklahoma in May of 2013 I believe.
@@metaldiscipline3955 yup, the last EF5 was the moore tornado. i truly believe the long lived tornado will be upped to EF5 once the surveying is done, it was absolutely horrific
This is amazing! I live in the UK and I've always wanted to be a storm chaser but all we get hear is rain to chase. Keep up the good work 👍
It hit the St. Louis & surrounding areas on both sides of the river with major damaging tornados last night. The Amazon building in Edwardsville IL (just over the river from St Louis) was destroyed with many injured, some still missing and fatalities. Prayers to all who were impacted by these storms last night!
This was the same tornado? I was thinking a separate one dropped down around Rolla, MO and headed SW to NE. I was around Oakville, MO at the time. Has any updates on the Amazon warehouse or the St Charles tornado come through?
I live in the St. Louis area and we had two tornado warnings last night, which is a new one in my book.

It must be so hard to watch the power flashes and the flying debris knowing the destruction and suffering it is causing. Grateful you are trying to understand these storms better to give people more warning and safety. I remember watching you in Storm Chasers when you were following a tornado and entered an area where it had created massive destruction and people were lost and buried. My respect for you grew as I watched you stop your chase and filming to help people.

The darkness is so terrifying. You can only get a glimpse of the danger in flashes of light. You have no idea where it’s going, how big it is, what to do. I hope I never see one of these in real life.
Hello Reed,
I am Michaela from Germany, have been following you on social media for some time and admittedly have very little idea about tornadoes. Of course, I followed the news regarding the current tornadoes in Kentucky and other places in the USA. First of all, of course, I would like to express my condolences and sympathy to the victims and their friends and families. But I have a question: Isn't TV and radio at least warned of the possibility of tornadoes? I know that tornadoes cannot be predicted 100%. But can't you at least calculate the probability of tornadoes and warn against them? Why were there so many victims?
Maybe you would like to explain this or make a video on this topic.
Kind regards, Michaela.
This is some amazing footage. I have a lot of respect for what you do, especially while chasing tornadoes at night!
My deepest condolences to all the victims and their families.
Seeing this footage reminds me of the movie Twister and the night time destruction of the drive-in theater. I can only imagine the fear and anxiety the people in the path of this real life storm went through.
Twister did a good job of conveying the terror of an event like this, with an unseen element of a night time tornado and the aftermath.
Sympathies to all those effected.
Every time a tornado warning is issued in our area my sister becomes panicked and anxious. The worse the tornado, the more severe the panic and anxiety.
We have elderly friends of the family as residents in the NH at Monette and family in Leachville Arkansas also. They got everyone out of the NH and this morning the news is that 1 died at the NH but 5 or more with severe injuries. The tornado then hit Leachville and traveled on to Missouri and Kentucky. The small town of Caraway where I grew up ( just south of Monette ) had a close call as a tornado was on the ground about to roll right through the middle of town and just before it hit it took an eastward turn and missed or there would have been another devastating story on the news this morning.
I was trying to get out of jboro last night when it kicked up close to there sirens were going off & when i made it to brookland they were going off there also safely made it home in paragould but was on the lookout , prayers for all the familys that lost loved ones 🙏🏼
I’d been watching this cell for hours already on radar and had your stream on the whole time. Never going to forget the pit in my stomach seeing that CC.
I was sleeping when it happened in Kentucky. I was too close to the window and when my baby brother came in I thought it was just the wind and rain and said, “It’s just the rain”. What I didn’t know was 30 tornados formed in these states. I was completely devastated about what happened last night. I pray for all who died, got injured, or experianced this incident.
