Im glad they changed aesthetic from neon prime to be more unique but I still love the Cyber punk look. I hope they can incorporate some of the futuristic aspects to some degree in Deadlock, I know its supposed to be in the 1930s prohibition era but come on, its a game about shooting little candle guys and killing monsters to obtain souls to upgrade your character that can be a sentient slime ball, surely there's a little room for some futuristic elements. I would love to at least see a version of Caldera in the future, its so beautiful. It really all depends on how seriously valve wants to take the tone of this game, i think depending on how they flesh out the lore it could be possible. Its also a completely fictional timeline as far as Im aware, so whos to say they didnt have what we would consider as futuristic in their 1930s.
The current teleporter design has the advantage of being easily placeable anywhere, allowing valve to experiment with their locations frequently over the past few months. I hope they turn them into nicer and clearer locations once they decided where they'll be

I wonder if theres gonna be more maps added to the game. I know moba tend to focus on single map and make small adjustment over time but I really want to see map to be added and be cycled every week or something
We will def get this map (the model/layout with the base premise of how it's build,) but in the style of DeadLock we have now. Cos VALVE will not leave an almost made map unused, there were many cases of VALVE using old concept maps that were later edited and made into new maps, especially in TF2, many maps had this happen when the game was still alive. So this will defo be reused, cos it does feel different and has different layout with different buildings, ways to travel so it will be used in game. Yes technically it already is, cos it's the concept for current map, but it is still very different and I bet this will be made into another Map, with DeadLock style.
Unless otherwise stated, I am sure that the current map is still just a work in progress. I expect heavy adjustments to lighting, color, texture, and theme at some point in development. It just wouldnt make sense to make detailed adjustments while they are still reconfiguring major parts of the map (example, home bases). Adding to this, there is what some called a 'hidden map' that has much different textures and lighting. I think its more of a dev sandbox for textures and map tiles. As far as I know, many (most?) characters are also going to get design changes at some point.
The map in deadlock is a placeholder, or atleast the art, so we arent missing anything from the old map, we are missing whats supposed to be in the latest map
I hope that valve will continue with multiverse lore in their games and deadlock would be another line where cascad resonance didnt happened and timeline is based around hl2
the amount of darkness in the visual theming seems to just carry over from neon prime, which was literally set at night, i would love to play a true caldera map instead of the amalgamized version
I think what this analisis really goes to show is that deadlock is still in very early stages of development, visually wise. A lot of the areas in the map really look unfinished or same as other parts of the map.
The Japanese theming was sick, but just doesn't scream "Valve" to me. Glad they went with the old New York style instead. It just feels much more grounded and gritty, but most importantly - unique and cohesive.
tbh I wouldn't mind some more indication of what lane I'm in or headed to. Whether that be some more street signage near doorways or some colorization like in these old renditions of the lanes, but in the heat of moment I sometimes misread the minimap and waste a dash jump the wrong direction, and depending how late in the game you are that interruption and rotation could cost you big time
With how similar it is to Dota 2, they might just add this as a map skin that only affects aesthetics for the user, and much like Dota 2 I hope they make it sharable skin you can swap in-game as well so others can experience it for free.
Some constructive feedback. I could never really place where i was in the map given all the cuts and shots with little context. Maybe more contiguous fly-throughs and points of reference in the future would be helpful.
Imagine all the "Heros" need to dealt with a time rift and got suck into it then got teleported to the somewhat future version (Not as Neon Prime map but just the map in the video) of the map
I think they changed the style because the old one wasn't functional. All these colorful arcades, shops etc look great but with lots of abilities effecta it would become a total mess. On the other hand modern city design has much more gray, so colorful AoEs are visible
I think it was wise of them to realize how boring is to be a player and play the 17th hero shooter with futuristic aesthetics, the shooter genre itself its has a lot of futuristic games but hero shooters are even worse. I'm so glad deadlock exists and valve is behind it.

@@nicoleuswhite2192 I thought the person was trying to imply they had an April build 😭
@@angelash8998 yes its when most people started to get into the testing.
I think what this analisis really goes to show is that deadlock is still in very early stages of development, visually wise. A lot of the areas in the map really look unfinished or same as other parts of the map.
I LOVE CALDERA_TROOPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When will they add Levels and Ranked matches?
it looks like it was trying to look like overwatch at first.
The Japanese theming was sick, but just doesn't scream "Valve" to me. Glad they went with the old New York style instead. It just feels much more grounded and gritty, but most importantly - unique and cohesive.
im glad they changed it to 30s occult style
Wish they kept the park, and imo map should be at least 30-40% bigger. It literally takes 10 seconds to gank another lane by foot.
Will they’ve adding other modes later. Like single lane double lane. Or like an Odins revenge or arena in smite etc. thanks.
tbh I wouldn't mind some more indication of what lane I'm in or headed to. Whether that be some more street signage near doorways or some colorization like in these old renditions of the lanes, but in the heat of moment I sometimes misread the minimap and waste a dash jump the wrong direction, and depending how late in the game you are that interruption and rotation could cost you big time
I really wish they add some of the old models as cosmetics
I love haze v1
With how similar it is to Dota 2, they might just add this as a map skin that only affects aesthetics for the user, and much like Dota 2 I hope they make it sharable skin you can swap in-game as well so others can experience it for free.
The old map reminds me a lot of Splatoon
Some constructive feedback. I could never really place where i was in the map given all the cuts and shots with little context. Maybe more contiguous fly-throughs and points of reference in the future would be helpful.
i hope we can get a calderas map skin just like in dota
i really hope they do map skins like in Dota2, that would be incredible
Caldera looks like mobile game, then they reinvented to PC game
itd be kinda cool if they pulled a fornite and just cannonically changed the map to this later on due game lore
Imagine all the "Heros" need to dealt with a time rift and got suck into it then got teleported to the somewhat future version (Not as Neon Prime map but just the map in the video) of the map
It's also seems more finished
Waiting for map pool in this game
I love the caldera more
Is this map still available anywhere?
Caldera Trooper is the name of the Candle Creeps is it not? It doesn't seem like a map name at all. How do we know the map wasnt just called Caldera?
I think they changed the style because the old one wasn't functional. All these colorful arcades, shops etc look great but with lots of abilities effecta it would become a total mess. On the other hand modern city design has much more gray, so colorful AoEs are visible
I think it was wise of them to realize how boring is to be a player and play the 17th hero shooter with futuristic aesthetics, the shooter genre itself its has a lot of futuristic games but hero shooters are even worse.
I'm so glad deadlock exists and valve is behind it.
