A hybrid is as far i would venture into electrification. Its not like you can fill up a jerry can of power, when you run out of juice on the side of the road.
Exactly what I said to Mechanic Matt a moment ago. Drive to the airport 100miles, holiday for 2 weeks and run out of charge on the way home 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ Not on my watch 😂😂😂
After seeing this video, I like the idea of having a plug in hybrid now. Although I did the level 3 course on them, it wasn't something I was interested in for myself. You have converted me. Cheers Matt
I’m like you Matt, just not ready for the change yet. If I drove an EV the 100 miles to the airport for my holidays & the left it there for 2 weeks. If it hadn’t enough charge when I got home I’m going to get stranded. It’s hard to chose that over a Petrol or Diesel. So yes this is a good compromise, at least a chap wouldn’t get stranded 😉😉
Looks like you are on a busman’s holiday Peter with a UA-cam video…I own …wait for it… a MAZDA ‼️‼️MX30 (Pure EV). Any reviewer tears it to shreds but it has save me literally thousands in fuel over the last 15 months of ownership (have solar panels also) You are right on the money in relation to jumping in the car and low charge available Vs refuel the ICE machine but owning an EV changed one’s approach and a little planning ensures charge is always available. The Mazda only has a range of between 160kms and 200kms but the reality is most of us only travel to and from work and short commutes in any given day but this is where I think the PHEV is the best of both worlds…realistically the daily commute and the few spins to the shops each day will have your driving on Electric the majority of the time but for the unforeseen and the longer trips the petrol is there to get you there…if/when we change our 2nd car it would be to a PHEV…so all the advantages of the Mazda exist and for the longer journeys the PHEV is there… A really great video Peter and so much more I could say on all this but that’s enough 😂😂😂
I’m like you and could talk about it for hours. But I was impressed with this machine Damien & wouldn’t mind owning a PHEV simply due to having one for the last 2 weeks. No carbon buildup in your MX30 😂😂😂😂
@@deisediagnostics629 it was a handy wagon Alan. Nice to have the choice of what you drive in. The electric range is only 60kms but it didn’t matter because you always had petrol as a back up 😎😎
We had one of these for 3 weeks on holidays as well. Done 2500kms. It runs the 1.6 thp engine same as the 208 GTI, with front and rear electric motors. Total power 300bhp! (On some models) Unfortunately we only had the Granny charger and had no option for plugging into the house socket (rental company didn't supply a cable for street charging). I did recharge on a few occasions by using the hybrid system. The best I achieved on fuel consumption was 7.4 litres/100km on long motorway run but average was more like 9.0 l/100km. I was very impressed with the interior and it drove well. They would be a great option for someone doing short runs during the week and maybe longer weekend journeys but at nearly €60k for the AWD model it is a bit pricey. Hope you're well rested after the holidays, keep up the excellent content 👍.
Wow, they are kinda pricey all right. But every bloody car is making some money at present, whatever is going on 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ I practiced charging my one every night & drove on battery power everyday. Which was handy because the Airbnb was paying for the electricity 🙂🙂 I didn’t do as many kms as you but I think I only put in €30 of petrol to get it back to full after 2 weeks going. Which I thought was good 👍 👍
Interesting to hear the opinion of someone like yourself Peter. One of the difficulties with EVs is getting good straightforward and honest info so well worth hearing your take on this wee car. If you fancy doing the training, I’ve done up to level4 with OVA and would highly recommend it. You can do some of it at home so you don’t need to be away from the garage for so much of your time. Enjoy your holiday.
Hey Russell, I must look into OVA. EV training is something I must pull the trigger on and do. But so far I have just been putting it to the back of my mind, but I must say I was impressed with this little wagon. Giving me the option to choose electric or petrol. Nice to get a break too enjoying it 😊😊
Electric cars are brilliant Peter...the power surge in them is massive. The thing I love most is the sound of silence when driving and no faffing with gears or gear boxes.❤❤❤
The hybrid looks like a great idea as you have the back up of petrol which does away with range anxiety. The car companies should have stayed with Hybrids until there was a fast charging network in place but I suppose political pressure and money have pushed fully electric on to the market.
Absolutely right Micheal, I really don’t get the thinking behind it too much. The batteries can’t be recycled, create massive harm when being mined. The grid couldn’t deal with all EVs right now or over the next 10 years. I’m possibly under informed but it just doesn’t make too much sense right now 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@@kennedysgarage3281 I totally agree. I think battery will make up part of the mix going forward but I think petrol and diesel will make up most of the mix. There could be a break through in battery technology and there could also be a break through in removing carbon emissions from petrol and diesel. It will be interesting to see how things go but pragmatic is not a word the Green party understand.
I had filled it with petrol and fully charged the battery. The airport is around 60 kms and I had to return the car full of fuel, they didn’t mention battery level 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ But I done around 50kms in electric mode & the last 10kms on petrol. So the fuel gauge was full to the brim on returning. Saved me stopping for fuel on the way back 🙂

Once you own one you soon become unimpressed. Looks lovely inside until it starts going wrong. 🤔
That could be very true. Do you know if they give a lot of trouble???

This hybrid wouldn’t have the same BHP as a full EV. But nevertheless it had fair torque on full acceleration 😉🙏🙏
Your on holiday and you still manage to sneak out and make a quick youtube video. Bet she didn't know what you was up to.😂

It actually was interesting to have a kinda 2 week test drive in one. Gives a feel for what it would be like to own one 🤔🤔
Make sure you book a taxi back to the airport Peter.?Just in case. I doubt that thing will last the week mate…,,,,,,,
