Modern-day prophecy is just people exegeting their inner monologue

The Word of God is sufficient and we should be satisfied with the One who is the Word and not look for emotional experiences etc. Christ is the Word and He is sufficient. We are told to hide His Word, not prophetic words, in our hearts so that we might not sin against Him. Thank you for this conversation.

I live in Texas and have pain in my shoulder but there are other people with shoulder pain like Josh said. :)
Someone pointed out that these prophets will say something like that but for some reason missed the unrepentant sin of those in their camp such as Mike Bickle.

Being bound by the belt is a common thing in Africa where for instance an offender of the law is grabbed by their pants waistline (same location as their belt if the offender had one on) to get a grip of them by the police or any other authority in the force. I can imagine back then they did the same.

It is really interesting hearing what people like Wayne Gruden have to say it is really helpful in thinking through these things when I was Carismatic one of the things I used to fall back on was simply this surely God can indicate to me whether it is right for me to applied for a certain job or not or go to a certain church or not and things like this do not have to be in the Bible this is still a kind of itch that I cannot scratch

I think we need a definition of what is prophecy. Prophecy is either speaking or writing inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). It seems that the content of the prophecy falls into one of three categories 1) the foretelling of an event to come 2) proclaiming of spiritual truths not yet revealed 3) proclaiming of spiritual truths already revealed in Scripture.
Examples of category 1) would be the crucifixion of Jesus in Psalm 22 or the famine foretold by Agabus.
Examples of category 2) would be the mystery of Christ revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. (Ephesians 3:4-5). Another example in this category would be in Acts 2 : when the Spirit was poured out, the disciples were proclaiming the Gospel ("the wonders of God") as Joel prophesied when he wrote "Your sons and daughters will prophesy".
Examples of category 3) would be an evangelist or preacher proclaiming the (already revealed) Gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit. It would seem to me that 1 Corinthians 14:29-32 falls into category 3, otherwise how could the other prophets validate the first prophet who spoke.
If my analysis is correct then anyone moved by the Spirit can prophesy today according to category 3 without adding to Scripture. Also a foretelling of a future event specific to a local church would not fall into the category of adding to Scripture. So I think that it is a false argument to say we can't have prophecy today without adding to Scripture.
On the other hand the self-proclaimed charismatic prophets are spouting new doctrines which clearly fall into the category of adding to scripture. Also, while not adding to Scripture, they make false predictions and teach false doctrines which contradict Scripture.

I'm still learning about cessationism and why this belief does not support having prophets today. However even after studying I end up a continuationist, I will never buy into the idea that you can have Prophets who get somethings wrong or they missed the mark. That sort of distinction even without studying extensively I can say is absolutely foreign to the Holy Bible.

What we have here is people who think they know better than God…”3 But he that prophesieth, speaketh unto men for edification and exhortation and comfort.” In the context of prophesy during corporate worship. These people are used by the devil to cheat the Church out of receiving all the gifts 🎁 the lord would want to give us ….

why are they insisting that Storms is a brother? I am confused about that. I don't see the Holy Spirit, which indwells the believer, permitting a blasphemy against Himself by advocating something like that. It's not like he is someone who is a new believer in a congregation that permits such things...no, he is in a pulpit propagating false doctrine. He is blaspheming the Holy Spirit every time he advocates one of these false teachers. I have a very hard time believing that he could be genuinely saved. I will go further and say that he is just as guilty as those who are propagating this nonsense.

@@remnant8898 Malachi 4:5-6 look at the timeline. It prophesied the coming of John the Baptist. Paul was speaking to the church in Corinth that had a lot of issues read the first sentence of the text 1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. Why would Paul write “concerning,” what was the church of Corinthians doing?! Verse 2. “You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led.” As the text continues Paul points out the importance of the holy spirit only comes from God’s elect. The church of Corinth was extremely dysfunctional and disobedient. False teaching, disunity, immorality, and bad doctrine. The church chose to follow the Roman liberal customs so Paul was correcting them in love and giving them specific instructions. ‬‬

Good question but the question they asking is why is prophecy different today? Where in scripture does it say prophecy is different today than it was in the old Testament? Where are the Scriptures that say prophecy is simply God motivating me to think in a certain way or feel a certain thing Where scriptures is it? Say this is now become prophecy. This is the question. I think they are asking and I would ask I was Carismatic I went through a Pentecostal Bible College. I am no longer Carismatic so I’m not asking this in a bit understanding way of simply asking, when did prophecy change? It hasn’t changed? Why isn’t it judged in the way? It was judged in the old Testament?
