Yes, the band were inspired by Lady Marmalade for the chorus. :D Love the Happy Mondays. They are still touring today, and are brilliant live. Another great band from the Madchester scene: Stone Roses. :D
@Evie170 Thanks Evie, I didn't know they were still touring....very cool. I always thought it sounded like Lady M so thanks for clarifying. I have done a Stone Roses song if you are interested 🤩
These were pretty big in the UK back in the late 80s early 90s time. Step On was my favourite by them. The Stone Roses were the other big band out of Manchester at the time so might be worth checking out as well. A good one from the same scene that you might not know is This is How it Feels by Inspiral Carpets.
Good song, with a nice groove to it .. But yes, I think you are correct Sue .. That Yippee Yippee Ay Ay" bit sounds like a direct take off of the "Gitchee Gitchee Ya Ya" section from Labelle's "Lady Marmalade" .. I was going to mention it if you hadn't picked up on it .. I didn't mind the Happy Mondays, although I wasn't a particularly big fan of their stuff. Bez was a real character .. Did a little bit of percussion, but he was pretty much in the band purely for his distinctive dancing at their gigs and in videos .. A real party boy, that one.😄
Hey Wayne, thanks for responding about the comparison to Lady Marmalde. No one else said anything so I was starting to think it was just me 🤣😜. It really stands out to me. I knew you would be the one to sort it out for me 🥰. I know a few songs by them which I really like but don't know many. I had no idea this band was a really big party band. A few people have mentioned that. Clearly I don't lnow much about this band and their behind the scenes antics 😜😯🤣
Let me plead the 5th before i start this comment for fear of incrimination We loved the Madchester scene but lots of people thought it was best with a little chemical enhancement ( Young and Stupid ) Not Me that was never my thing This scene was all based around the Hacienda club in Manchester Shaun , his brother Paul and Bez were gangster from streets of Salford but they made infectious music Raves could last for days and Shaun Ryder partied harder than anyone else I saw Charlatans and Ride last year in concert and they were great Favorites from this time ( not necessarily manchester ) Charlatan : One I Love Happy Mondays : Step On Soup Dragons : Im Free EMF : Unbelievable Utah Saints : Something Good Inspiral Carpets : How it Feels Check out the Movie 24 Hour Party People about Hacienda and Factory Records its a really great movie about music
Hey Jesse, I had no idea these guys were such partiers. It sounds like that movie could be cool to see. I really like all the songs you mentioned expect I don't know Something Good. I will have to check them all out....great music came out around this time 🤩
OMG Shaun would make Shane McGowan look like Mother Theresa He was shameless Shaun went on a very famous British Quiz show called Mastermind His subject history of Manchester He didn’t do too well I couldn’t understand a word he was saying he has the thickest accent
Yes Jesse, that "24 Hour Party People" movie is excellent, especially if you know about many of the singers, bands, and personalities who were part of that whole punk / post-punk / new wave scene in England, and particularly Manchester .. The main guy portrayed in it, Tony Wilson was a very interesting and influential man, who supported up and coming acts of the time through the show he presented on the BBC ("So It Goes" ) and his managerial and entrepreneurial efforts ( Factory Records The Hacienda, etc ) .. I reckon Sue would find it very enjoyable.
@@wayne_twentyfive absolutely The film also deal with Joy Division , losing Ian Curtis and formation of New Order And an amazing artist call Vinny Reilly who performed as Durutti Column Amazing Music : Factory Record were amazing
Rip Steve He produced some of my all time favorites Pixies : Surfer Rosa PJ Harvey : Rid of Me Nirvana : In Utero And he was in his own great band ( guitar and vocals ) Shellac
Brilliant tune. My fav by them and one of my fav 90s tracks
Hey Kevin, I am glad you enjoyed it. It is a great tune for sure 🤩
