Brilliant video. A role I've always avoided due to the need to carry them defensively. Recently tried it and your video confirms everything I've seen. They offer so much in attack it's worth having one in the team on the right player.
Excellent video Neil. I have used the Treq in a 4-2-3-1 with great results. At the moment, I am playing a possession based game with a 4-3-3 DM wide. I may put my best AM R/L as a Treq. But, I agree that the best position would be more central. I wonder what fun could be had if you had 3 Treqs up front in the attacking midfield areas. I wish Messi could be cloned :)
Going with a trequartista as a solo striker with a counter-attack tactic is amazing. Good for when you are winning and want to drop deep to defend the lead or when you get a red card.
iv created a 4-4-2 with a trequartista and advance forward up top and they were both 1st and 3rd top scorers in the league, this was with palermo in serie c
as a calcio follower since the late 90s, I think the english speaking media and community have been making confusing description about trequartista... I don't speak italian, but isn't the original definition of a trequartista is just "a 3/4"? meaning it just a player who operate alone between forward and midfielder area of the pitch...? back in those days of the 80s and 90s, platini was a trequartista, and so was maradona... and baggio, zidane, del piero, and totti etc... the term already blurred in it's definition between the role assigned toward lone central attacking midfielder and second striker. but that was still a clear enough of a role, so then fast forward 10-20 years or so in the messi era, suddenly... there's false 9, and then like in this game there's also shadow striker, deep lying forward and advanced playmaker... I mean WTF? they are all more or less the same thing... and oh it just like this game somehow making roles up like regista, deep lying playmaker and then there's segundo volante, anchor and whatever else... just WTF is it with the english speaking football community inventing roles that are pretty much the same thing? okay maybe that segundo volante, carrielo, and whatever the german named roles are not british invention but still... it's just unecessarily confusing...
You are correct. Totti is the prime example of a trequartista, Del Piero is another one. Tre (three) quartista (quarter) is for the original position on the pich, between cm and defenders, right in the spot of a dm; but in reality, they had total freedom to move to the ball and space during the match, even doing late runs in the penalty box. Kaka is another good example, although he was more complete that a trequartista. In Argentina we used to call that role, the "enganche" probably the best and last example on an argentine enganche is Riquelme, but also Aimar; both amazing players with a 4 3 1 2 system, being the central advanced pivot in front of 3 more defensive oriented cm and behind 2 striker, a tall, strong, "in the box" one and an agile, fast, good on the ball moving through half lines (between cb and fb). Boca juniors famous team from 2000' was like: Cordoba Ibarra Bermudez Samuel Arruabarrena Cagna Serna Schelotto Riquelme Delgado Palermo Ancelotti milan also played like this.
I'd have like to see how you use the trequartista in the formations he's mostly used, such as 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-3-1-2, formations with no wingers. This role looks very static in the striker position. I thought he'd come deeper to get the ball, as the role description says
He can pretty much be used in any formation, I think the vid showed what his role will do it's about how you plan around him. But yes ideally I should have popped a narrow formation shot in too. I agree, it is really surprising how little he roamed in the striker position too!
@@StingerNeilD hey Neil, appreciate the videos and I’m just starting this one but I think the reason the T doesn’t drop deeper is because you have players already occupying the midfield spaces. I’ve read loads on forums about how the T is all about exploiting the space that is available so even if that’s behind the defenders then he’ll do that instead of dropping deep.
@@SahilPatel-do3ml a good point Sahil, you'll see in the video too that he's a bit of a magnet to the ball in some positions though. Mostly in behind the striker he tends to come to the ball rather than the spaces 👍
You always open up something new in the game for me. Didn’t realise you could do that with the scouting. I’ve always just searched for players based on the attributes I want. Top video as always mate!
Excellent input on how to use the Trequartista. I'm trying to play a Trequartista (Dybala) behind a Target Forward (Lukaku) in 4231 formation. Will it work? Or will there be confusion between players on who to pass the ball to?
I am trying to use Messi as Trequartista in Argentina in AmC position. But he doens't get involved much, DLP and CM generally pass it to wide players and moves come from there. Can yoy suggest roles around him to get it to work so that he receives the ball
Treq is your most advanced playmaker will roam around, will do no defending bit like a Neymar. Shadow plays off the front, really aggressive attacking midfielder, DLF is a striker but drops off and holds the ball, ball magnet, more creative than a target forward think of a Rooney type
@@StingerNeilD oh ok but aside from all these roles in real life football striker(9) and attacking mid(10) are positions and second(shadow or supporting)striker is a position between them or how do you see this? I hear often this as a position
Doesn’t have anything to do with this video. But can someone explain to me the lines between your players? What’s the difference between a solid and dashed line?
Dashed means the link up between the 2 is poor and they aren't gelling well. Solid means they are enjoying playing in those roles together. Hover over the lines with your mouse

Great vid Stinger. For me, a treq is a bit like going to a wine bar rather than the pub, but who knows - I might use one if I ever get to a big club!
Same mate. It's a luxury for me

Well, its basically a deeper B2B, but ive never seen anyobe using a Segundo Volante
i love a treq alongside an advanced forward in a 4312!
WB on attack, carrilero and treq on a wing should do wonders. Maybe DLF on Attack up front with "try to beat offside trap" trait..

I shall put on the list sir

I'll have to give a trequartista a try instead of a shadow striker. A video on a False 9 would be a good one
