Hey Zealand, I think you should do videos explaining each role, especially ones like raumdeuter, trequartista, enganche, etc which many people (including myself) have little to no understanding of what they do. I know you are doing them every so often but it would be nice if we got them a little more frequently
The Raumdeuter role needs an overhaul tho. It's relegated to wing players whereas the originator of it has played central for half of his later career. Also the fact that supposedly the Raumdeuter doesnt do any defensive work whereas Muller is known to do so constantly.
My favourite role for the last couple of FMs is absolutely the Half Back. Their default starting position in the match engine is basically like having a 3rd BPD in 4atb formations making you harder to break down, and due to how deep they are, it makes it easier to play out of the back.
Paul Onuachu broke Shakhtar's club all time goal scoring record when I was managing the club in my fm22 save. Got about 125 goals or something as a TF before they patched corners. Got most goals in a season record and everything. HOWEVER - I bought a pacey as hell advanced forward who in his first season got 42 goals in the league (30 games). Pacey as hell AF > TF.
Yeah Kyle hudlin for Solihull moors is 6ft 7 and was an absolute beast until the patch, then just dropped of a cliff after, is was sad I felt like I had to take out to the back yard like old yellow..

I ABSOLUTELY love the CM on attack. If your playing with a F9 then your CM on attack can drift into the space and get behind the defence and then if he has min 12-14 finishing he will get goals goals goals. The player I have for this role is Daniel Van Kaam from Groningen.

Completely agree on Target Forwards. Never liked them, until I got to manage Salford in England's 4th tier and realized I have TWO 6'7" strikers in my team. One of them was 18 year old Marcus Dackers with ZERO technical stats above 9. Not much potential to speak of. He was a never higher than a two-star in my very poor Salford team and still single-handedly carried me through the lower leagues to EFL championship in two seasons. Apparently when you have twice as many shots as the next best guy in the league, you're bound to score some of them. The strategy worked all the way to the Premier League. 3 consecutive promotions done just by crossing the ball high.
I agree with AF cuz Anthony Martial in my arsenal fm22 save is absolutely lighting things up with 20+ goal contributions In just 21 games played.Probably my most favourite player since fm20 and is pretty cheap this year as well.
Deep lying forward. Look at Harry Kane against Guardiola: link the midfields, passer, goalscorer. DLF is the man that stand in the zone 14. If he were marked he passes the ball, if he were let alone he Will punish you with longshoots.
@@jonpaul3868 yep, i agree with you. FM roles needs to be updated. Also there are no more AF in real world. All top strikers are either CF, DLF or Poacher.
@@mrcx6142 its still do what I previously describe. DLF is essentially a reverse SS. DLF stays with the Defenders, upfront. then drop down when the team got the ball. If he were tracked by the central def, it will make a space for teammate. Just watch matches with good DLF in FM. SS is the other way around: drop down when dispossed, and charge in upfront while in posession. While CAM is just like its description: midfielder, it means he stand in the mid 1/3 when dispossed, and go to the line between CB and CM on possesion.
@@-_-DatDude Yeah, it's something I've really come to like in my 4-4-2 narrow diamond formation. With aggressive wingbacks I like to have a half back stay deep and help the center backs, as well as play out of defense to pass to the wingbacks who make deep runs or down the middle to a mezzala or advanced playmaker, then to the strikers. Very high passing % and solid defensive work means I'm getting consistent 7.0-7.2+ ratings
After playing a lot of lower league 4-4-2, the Poacher has to be one of my top roles. The striker combination defines the whole team in that system. Having that one striker that will always (about 90% of the time) stay central and you can rely on him to score whenever he's free, paired with another that is constantly moving away from goal to find space, and can also carry the ball, is pretty solid. Lukaku and Dybala have been like that this season. These "solo" goals and crazy dribbles in the box Dybala gets to do happen because the CBs are afraid to stop double marking Lukaku. One can move, because the other one isn't. Keep the central defenders central and give the fullback a reason to reconsider getting narrow, and that second striker has a whole lot of good time in the halfspace area.
I agree that Advanced Forwards is getting improve in this version of FM22 as he scores lots of goals, also don't sleep on TF (Target Forward) because that guy with that position might come in handy.
If I have to choose, my favorite role is Attacking Libero. I've been having quite some success running a 3-4-3 with 2 Carrirelo and an Attacking Libero, I find having the team run in Cautious or Balanced basically turns the Libero into a Support DLP.
I seem to be the only person that absolutely loves a rw on attack, if you manage to find a dude with some height or is good in the air, usually a physical st with some pace (oshimen, toko ekambi) they score so many goals
This vid was great, I'd love to see you go further and expand on roles that go well together. What's your favourite double pivot, and why is it BWM BBM?
CM on attack can be great in a 433, the only reason im not using it now is just ive moved to a 532. Also love a DM on Defend when they're basically a CB who just owns the space in front of your defence. Also big Fan of Second yellow card, if you havent watched his stuff id highly recommend the journeyman stuff.
I highly recommend giving the Half Back role a go in 4atb formations like the diamond or the 433. The starting position of a HB in the match engine is essentially like having CB's, theyre really good if you play out from defense too.
As mentioned Paul onuachu plays for KRC Genk the team I support and he’s an absolute beast. He’s so tall that he controls every long ball with his chest and almost never heads it and in addition to that he’s an incredible finisher and he’s also surprisingly good on the ball with solid dribbling and very good passing.
Still can’t believe he there was no major interest from pl teams before this season after scoring 33 league goals last season although genk were not willing to sell for less than 30 mil
First time i played FM was FM 21. Also started from a bottom League cause i figured it's easier to manage smaller club when you don't know anything. Had a tall guy there, 197 and saw he was called target man. Guessed correctly I should target him straight to promotion.
funny enough, I use to only use wing backs or complete wing backs until FM 22, where now I use one wing back and one full back on supports, and I've fallen in love with the full back on support. It's been so good defensively, I'm not sure if it's just the players I have or the role but I never have to worry about the flank with my full back whislt also getting a cheeky cross in or two in a game.
1. DLP 2 Inside Forward on the left totally agree with SYC 3 Anchorman 4 AF although ive been playing Pressing forward mostly on FM22 and it definitley used to be Poacher v 5 Mezzala ( I like to play lop sided so normally the left hand side is weight to attack while the right is more defensive so i find the left hand advanced player in a 3 man midfield with Mez on att or support wwirth fantasitcally to over load on one side of the pitch)
For me personally the 2 best roles this year is CM on attack and Mezzala on attack, both tend to score about 20 goals a season for me in my current save. Their runs are incredible at creating overload in attack.
The best role for me is offensive midfielder on attack because he assists on goals AND runs into the box so many times and scores so many goals, sometimes even more goals than my strikers. But my favorite playstyle is BBM because I love how they support the offense and defense.
I'm here to defend the AP-Su. I never thought it was good in FM21, but in FM22 I have found great success with it. I don't usually like a 4-2-3-1, but in a save I started in lower league Spain, I used a 4-4-2 to start with, but once my team got to La Liga level, I found my best potential players were mostly AMLs and AMRs and my STs lacked good finishing. I had a few good MF that could play a BWM and a BBM role and hold down the defense with just 2 CMs. Mybest prospect that came through my Youth Development was an AMC only with great passing and vision as well as long shots so I switched to a 4-2-3-1 and his worst season was 26 assists. He also gets me like 11-12 goals with his long shots and has been able to propel my team into Champions League and La Liga contention. He has brought the most out of my other attacking players and because of that my IF(left) just won Player of the Year in La Liga with my AMC 3rd. I was able to end Barcas 7 straight titles and there 70+ game unbeaten streak they had at home
My 5. 1. PF on attack. 2. CB on defend. 3. BWM on support. 4. Shadow Striker on attack. 5. AF on attack. My current Palermo save is on 90+ games unbeaten in the league and have used 2 formations and the PF, CB on defend are the only 2 fixed in both.
Tbf I used Oli Giroud as a TF on support in my save on the Swiss League for half a season before he retired, and he was incredible. Around 15 goals and 9 assists in half a season
Frank Kessie has close to 30 goals for me when I was playing AC Milan. That was the good news. The bad news was the profile photo the pack I was using was terrifying, the eyes would follow you everywhere you moved. Everywhere...
i don't like the tactic myself, but can definitely attest to a good Target Forward! i recall a really old iteration of FM on the PSP handheld...was in charge of Sydney FC and got a youth academy player who was over 6' tall and had 20(!!) in both heading and jumping...every game almost every cross resulted in a goal from this striker
@@jwatsss453 I’ve never had much success with a BPD, they just give the ball away a lot. I do a lot of lower league saves so I probably don’t have the players for it.
Maybe make a video with your favorite player(s) (ever) per role? Like what you said with Pirlo being the typical DLP. Would be fun (and make it easier to remember for me ;)
BWM, B2B and DLP, that's my holy trinity in midfield 🔥 BWM win all the ball, pass it short to DLP, spray it to attackers with B2B overload the box alongside them
honestly deep lying playmaker is the best role in the game since fm12. not because its overpower and breaks the match engine but because everyone always uses it. in whatever tactic we all seem to have a dlp. and I think its because the role is incredibly versatile and easy to cover for. you can fix their cons in multiple ways whether its by having a hardworker next to them or having them just sit in defend instructions. It's also a role that allows for multiple type of players to play their. AND you can use aging players and have them perform well. you can have tall slow guys who can pass or short quick guys who can pass. IT"S just such a well made and well understood role by most of us I cant remember the last time I made a tactic without a deep lying playmaker. AND i dont think theres a squad in FM without someone who can play that role, you always have a good dlp or you can always sign a good dlp. I remember stretching wayne rooneys career at everton by playing him there till he was 36-37 brilliant role absolutely amazing
15:14 Ah, so that's what I was on PES 2011 when my created forward was in New Zealand as a player, when they put him back as a center midfield, where I can shoot from ridiculous distance, and loft passes from that threat of him going rougue. Yet: It has very low running distance with the ball. Defensively, however, he is the only one to presses and tackles a lot, see ball, steals ball regardless. One he gets the ball back, he'll just do a short pass to return to the center circle, and the cycle continues.
1 of my favourite is the defensive midfielder. Their training includes increasing the composure attitude. I like a player who can break up play but think players like that with bad passing/decisions/composure are a liability. Have become more of a fan of advanced playmakers while attacking midfielders i can't seem to make work
I played a 433 with 2 mezzalas and found that i was really riskjng the defense. I switched one to carrilero and found that my tactic leveled up a notch. this was because even though it is less attacking, there was more defensive responsibility and my carrilero does sit on the outside like mezzala. just not as many runs
So I went an entire season without getting beaten in my FM20 save. Not just in the league but in all competitions with Roma.. Winning the league (37 games won, 1 draw) and brushing aside most of the teams in the UCL. Ended the season with a total of 72 games and no defeat in all competitions( previous run was 63 games without defeat in the serie A).
4:17Without even thinking, It's "Chris Wood-type" all over again. Sure, Elliott Collier is slightly taller, but NZ's default MO is to go aerial. Even Winston Reid is an aerial threat as a defender (despite never being able to stay healthy).
You know, I can feel the Target-Man. I absolutely despise DLFs, they never quite work as I want them to work, and they always seem to score very few even on attack. And while a TM(S) is a different role, it hits that sweet spot between creating and scoring a bit better for me IF used with a technically gifted player.
im back playing fm 22 before fm25 (the new match engine makes me wanna play again, i havent plated 23 or 24) ive always wondered is it better to have player use a personal positional role or a team positional role ?!?

Jesus, playing the game since 2014. Hes a baby in the game. Im playing since 2007, and never missed a year. But I dont have time to stream it
was that actually a cheeky total war reference? was thinking 'who uses gravitas in that context' and then you said 'gotta go spend it' hahaha
love to see a reverse of this video doing the worst roles
I kind of agree with the Advanced Forward... but I go with Pressing Forward on attack that works very similarly without fail.
This is a great ‘dynamic’
Frank Kessie has close to 30 goals for me when I was playing AC Milan. That was the good news. The bad news was the profile photo the pack I was using was terrifying, the eyes would follow you everywhere you moved. Everywhere...
I hope you can make a tier list like you made last year, maybe even a short one showing the changes from your experience + ME
i don't like the tactic myself, but can definitely attest to a good Target Forward! i recall a really old iteration of FM on the PSP handheld...was in charge of Sydney FC and got a youth academy player who was over 6' tall and had 20(!!) in both heading and jumping...every game almost every cross resulted in a goal from this striker
1. AF
2. BWM
3. WB
4. CAR
5. AP attack (mc)
5: Centre Back - Stopper 4: AML Inside Forward 3: Advanced Forward 2: Ball Winning M idfielder (CM -Defend 1: False 9
@@jwatsss453 I’ve never had much success with a BPD, they just give the ball away a lot. I do a lot of lower league saves so I probably don’t have the players for it.
99dndd I’m so dumb man cd is defo better in lower league haha I tried playing bpd with Barnet and flopped
@@jwatsss453 It’s not dumb at all, there’s different roles for different saves!
For me it’s a goal keeper with high communication
Riechedly Bazoer as a BBM.
He's nuts there. Get him.
Lewis Ferguson always has a top game against big clubs as box to box.
1 of my favourite is the defensive midfielder. Their training includes increasing the composure attitude. I like a player who can break up play but think players like that with bad passing/decisions/composure are a liability. Have become more of a fan of advanced playmakers while attacking midfielders i can't seem to make work
No one uses them it seems but always liked the deep lying forward on attack. Then have minimum 1 IF-A or striker beside them and control possession
FM23 here... Jude Bellingham as a box-to-box midfielder is a cheat code.
Moukoko on AF.....40+ goals every season so far
I used a TF from Vanarama to Champ 😂 he was only 6'2 as well and scored 40 goals in 3 consecutive seasons
Reading the comments and realizing that wide playmakers on attack are so underrated
You got that talk show laugh down.
I use all of these roles the two of you suggested
Favorite (not best):
5) Halfback
4) Ball Winning Midfielder
3) Shadow Striker
2) Inverted Wingback
1) Pressing Forward
I miss the Mezzela, but yeah i like all the ones u guys said. Only thing i like to play Target Foward as Pressing foward alot
Pressing Forward on support is the greatest role of all time
TF - Kyle Hudlin
You know, I can feel the Target-Man. I absolutely despise DLFs, they never quite work as I want them to work, and they always seem to score very few even on attack. And while a TM(S) is a different role, it hits that sweet spot between creating and scoring a bit better for me IF used with a technically gifted player.
I won the World Cup with Portugal playing DLF.I used two inside Forwards. 4,2,3,1
@@masterwesty That's nice for you, doesn't change any of what I said.
SI finally removed the Get Further Forward instruction from Advanced Forwards
João palhinha Is the definition of ball winning midfielder
I had a Carrilero and he was my best player scored 14 goals a season from midfield
im back playing fm 22 before fm25 (the new match engine makes me wanna play again, i havent plated 23 or 24) ive always wondered is it better to have player use a personal positional role or a team positional role ?!?
I used to play Top Eleven back in 2014, lol.
I love the anchor DM looking for a regista I've never used that role before
Top 11 is just another money grab game.
03:28 - "We're not here for dieting advice, we're here for ROLLS!" ;)
7:47 I put Bruno Guimares as BWM, but on support, and he still getting carded like almost every game.
I'll be making my next tactic to include every role mentioned here & pray i don't get relegated
Recreating the old cover 😁
I always play target forward. Then I reach top flight and I ditch them for whatever 18 yo wonderkid SAN/River Plate has on sale that year.
You should play with Darmstadt if you want to play with the big boys
You say target forward and i counter with a isaak toure, your move guys
