Firstly, happy new year to you! So, I've been a proud student of Dr Sledge for long enough to appreciate a well poured glass of absinthe, and I'm only a few minutes into this conversation, but I can already tell I'm going to an avid viewer of this channel going forward. It's a good time to have a curious brain in this age of the digital esoteric scholar!

I have always wondered if they “could” describe the process. Not so much keeping it secret, more like trying to tell someone how to have curly hair. Sure there are many ways for someone to curl their hair, some even permanent until it grows out, but if it just naturally happens how do you explain to others. It is what it is & those who have it just do lol.
I know not helpful, but I can’t be the only one who has wondered similar things.😊

Great subject. Music too loud, narrative too muddy in the mix for the first few minutes until it transitions the interview, then it clears up.

I guess I got this from some combination of deism, Christianity, and Terrence McKenna's thoughts on the matter. But I make sense of the problem of evil by my interpretation of the line: I am the Alpha and the Omega. Which I take to mean God was at the beginning. God is somewhere at the end (whatever that may be). But thus he's not here. We're here in the middle of the alphabet - slowly making our way towards the sublime object at the end of time.
If God was here then there not only wouldn't be evil, there wouldn't be us as discrete beings with agency. We are in a sense given free will to become the outer periphery of creation. We may have a divine spark or mark of the creator. There might even be divine or supernatural beings among us, or that we can communicate with. But the presence of a monistic God would obviate us. Imagine something like a black hole but of pure emanating light. Not exactly something that would help us carve out this interesting bit of cosmic novelty that is our life.
Oh well that's at least how I squared the circle. Thanks to anyone who read this far.

So i am a mystic and I guess I would fall into the camp of hyper-"elitist".
Why should there be an additional layer to mysticism called esotericism? So my answer to Justin is simply this. To truely understand mysticism you must be a mystic, there are no other two ways about this, you just have to knuckle down and do the work. So the question to an esoteric mystic is should a non-mystic try to understand mysticism, and my answer is no.
I see esotericism as a refinement of mysticism. Mystics go through phases, first there is the novelty phase, then the sort of hyperecstatic phase were they are trying to heighten that exoerience (what i would call forcing, theres another Kabballistic rabbi who uses the same phraseology). This is followed by a sorting out phase where you realize alot of the glitzy wow and flutter is just brain farting. This then sends one into the esoteric phase, in which you realize the experiential needs all to be sorted out before you tell anyone. I myself came to realize that being a natural mystic probably has a defect component that one really should seek to remedy. So if going into mysticism you realize this, then I have no problem with mystics sharing techniques, but I personally would argue that whatever magick you use, it should be done with a feathers touch, otherwise the magick becomes the mysticism.
The notion of the nous, oneness, the source and any variety of platonic, zoroastrian, hindu mysticism that I hear people blathering about is what I generally percieve as forced mysticism. They are looking within their visionary landscape for a "structure" of the divine. What they find however is the abode of the thoughts of past ones. Its kind of like someone house, you enter the house and join the party, without knowing what the party is. The problem in the abode is simply this, grandpa and aunt bessie is there, everyone is there in a concert of experience blended together and incoherant. When you try to pull coherancy out of it what you get is falseness. Its not the place for mystics its the place for delusions, seriously.
In that context they look for structure within this blended all and what they find is heaven and hell, layers of heaven and layers of hell. Its all delusion. There is structure there, but its "esoteric" and ineffible.
So here is a point of an esoteric mystic to other mystics. Rather than seeking to force knowledge out of the mystical realm which results in delusion, if you are prone to mystical experiences refine your mystical stance so as to let the mystical world impart whatever knowledge upon you, you can travel the plain but dont cross the abyss, let that which is on the other side take the crossing if it so chooses.
When one does this the All, source, etc disappear, the experiential becomes local, the divinity becomes personalized. You look at a slice of the apple and see it clearly or you try to see the whole apple and you get instead a distortion. Everyones slice is different. In the mystic divinity we are but tiny pieces of the whole.
Most esoteric mystics that have a public personal are not really esoteric. They kniw the danger of taking drugs or doing magick, but they hold onto the mystical "delusions" of their forebearers and try to find clever ways to reinterpret them so that they seem not to be so idolatrous and steeped in delusions of the ancient past. I mean anyone can create a Religion from mysticism, Alistor Crowley created a framework. But what is his or anyone's authority?
Justin should know better than anyone else, authority is assumed and adopted. There is no people or place that a esoteric divine council handed down an authority. All human authority stems from flawed men thrusting themselves or being thrust into a position. So what can be an authority of a mystical interpretation?
Exemplary of the problem of mysticism was the foundation of christianity. What was more important, galileean mysticism or the teachings? We might think it was the treachings, but only by inference do we know what many of those are. But Jesus's mysticism did not survive, which among the christians meditates in private away from any distraction. No, christians go to pray in church and sign chants, that is the source of their mystical experiences. Why?
The form of mysticism Jesus practiced was very powerful and very dangerous. It cause a nearly immediate proliferation of occult beliefs and was addictive. So while christianity grew quickly there were no solid boundaries. The extremes of christianity became a threat to the center, so the church eliminated the extremes and cloistered the mysticism, a form of esotericism. What might have survived if the early jesus followers had more esoteric practices. James might not have been assasinated, the Jerusalem church might have maintained their authority in Syria, they might have foreseen the coming war and evacuated to arabia. . . . . Then there is the ultimate question, did Jesus believe that he would be executed, did he believe his heavenly vision would swoop down at the last minute and protect him. He was young and did not have the experience of an esoteric mystic. His followers were not taught "good" esoteric practices. As Paul as an example, he is only superficially esoteric, he babbles about his vision, he speaks of his heavenly experience in the third person. But within his own movement, within 100 years all of his ideas are replaced with Johannian mysticism. Paul had no authority, what authority he took his movememt quickly lost. He was ressurected from heap of history by a church that tried to appear to be universally christian.
