Thank you, sir! I didn't realize it until you mentioned it, but my trees are always very monochromatic. What an interesting technique to use with the flicks of color. I always learn something from you!
Yup, value is the most important attribute. In a black & white picture no colour is correct because there is no colour, however, the correct values (dark or light) give the picture the high realism of nature or a portrait.
Great advice as usual. 👍 The ironic thing is that the first video of yours I ever saw was "How to mix colours with oil paint" in which you explained the use of a colour checker... I learned so much from that exercise and then I learned to let go. Thank you for sharing so much with us.❤
"I learned so much from that exercise and then I learned to let go." I think jazz people have a saying that goes, "memorize the changes so you can forget the changes" (changes I think mean chord progressions)
Took me a while to get over this. (I may still not be completely over it...) Putting my painting side by side to the original photo, I can definitely over analyze with the best of them. But doing that's how I got over it also. I realized neither me nor anyone else is going to see the original to compare the colors to see if they're precisely right. As long as the colors are in the general ball park (and the values are right obviously...), no pink oranges or purple lemons, it will look realistic.
Thanks Mark! Guilty as charged I think I spent 20 mins this evening trying to fine tune one color for my next painting ha. Great reminder value > color
This is very informative. I feel I can focus too much on my colors, and even as a primarily abstract painter, I can use these tips to insinuate form in some sense.
I agree i think the contrast and the value Shadow and the light is more important see you Mr Mark i missed you maybe make another painting I see it for sure wish you good ❤
I just switched from acrylics to oil and oils are actually cheaper - I'm using water soluable oils for now. Oils go a lot further and don't dry out so fast.
I tried making brush dip myself and was happy with how it worked but the cost per ounce is better on Geneva so i bought 2 bottles and a canvas stain. I will come back to share how the bottled stuff works.
Self acceptance is important for every painter It's therapeutic field for the love of art I found myself get frustrated for changing colors too long And i understand i shouldn't drowning myself from this specific situation❤
Hi Mark! Thanks for everything. I have a question: how do you accept/process payment from customers, and/or what do you recommend? I've been exploring payment processors, bank transfers, etc. and would love advice from someone with more experience under their belt. Thanks!
Take any colour picture and make it black & white, the colours are eliminated but the values remain. Value is how dark or light any part of the picture is.
Don't listen to others that think they know someone based on their experience with that person. Get your own values right- determine if you like that person based on what you see from the person. Mix your own colors.

Good comment. But look at 50 Masters paintings at skies or blank walls. None of them are monochromatic.

That was really great! Made me think about my art work

Great wisdom. Thank you for making the decision to help people along their creative journey.
Every time I finish a painting I thank Mark Carder and Geneva paints
Thanks for your advice
This is my biggest hang up, being too nit-picky about mixing the EXACT color.
Bang on! You are an amazing teacher!
Your videos are always so informative. Thank you 😊

I hope to try oils someday. Finances and investment in acrylics leave me stuck with them at this time. Someday.

Thank you Sir!

Such good advice. First thing I learned. I think from Bill Perkins.

Awesome, thanks.
Very good Mark.
Thanks Mark!!

Show William Bouguereau's 'April Smile' oil painting, or "Tarantelle" - I mean, that man is the MASTER- no one is better thatn Bouguereau.
Spot on.
Value is really what you see and color is what you feel.
Bingo !
Thank you sir.
Gracias maestro
Please make a video on how to draw perfectly..
Right on
Mark why are you not selling a bunch of stuff on the website anymore? Like the palette ?
Painting is so intimidating.
Can I or should I furnish over a Geclee print?
The color means less in landscapes than portraits. It's more about how the colors work with each other (including their relative values).
When in doubt, leave it gray.
This is my weakest point in painting.
The original is the best
Please explain Value!🙏🏻 I still don’t quite get it!🤬

SQUINT.
there you go, problem solved.

2:40 There's a lot of AI tells here......AI images are garbage... You're on the wrong side of history resorting to this process.
Hello, Can you tell us what the alternatives are for Rembrandt colors
