    You don't need that 3rd piece. You can make them meet correctly one board to the other.

    Great geometry skills. You make it look easy! But a beginner would struggle forever. Its difficult to get good and fast at something you don't do every day.

    I've been a Finish Carpenter for 21yrs I have a $1,000 set up just the saw alone was $850 at the time installed miles of crown,base and various types of mouldings layered or unlayered and I've never seen any guy do this. You have to be good at math to do it right among other things.

      Jp I think he's really BAD at math that's why he is doing it this way. Any rookie trim carpenter knows this is incorrect you don't need the 3rd piece. After 21 years you should know this

      @zazzenfuk Рік тому

      @randymarsh8324 3rd piece is like a bulnose or self return. It adds additional depth the the corner and would require more effort to make. It's not mitering and beveling 1 cut per crown; your doubling your cuts which requires more skill because any error made is compounded by 4 instead of 2

    I want a spring angle of all the crown molding on all the walls to be 45-deg. The creates a gap between the ceiling and the top edge of the crown molding on the sloped sides of the room. I'm planning to put LED accent lighting that will shine up from behind through the gap between the crown molding created instead of laying it back. I think I can adapt this technique to work, but it's (at least) a starting point.

    Pardon the pun but when you cut corners things are meant to be easier.
    Seems to be a lot of effort to incorrectly do the job.

  • @copeboi7714
    @copeboi7714 5 місяців тому +1

    Absolutely not! You only need one miter. Also the molding piece needs to be pitched out and away and not tight up against the wall for that profile unless my eyes are playing tricks on me. You can hand saw it but his jig needs to be at the correct pitch and correct angle. And if your not doing trim behind excellent framers and drywallers or its an older house where the ceiling has settled and the walls are racked out of plum than perfect 90 degree corners are rare. You’d want and adjustable jig where you could change the angle on all axis’s and the pitch ever so slightly when your cutting your crown. If your off on any axis by more than a tenth of a degree it won’t be tight. I recommend a digital angle finder with long arms and a small one too. A Miter saw with a sharp blade goes a long way.
