Poor John Doormat. It's not his fault his wife Jane gets violently angry every time he opens his big mouth and tells her he is not going to clean up the house. His snooty next door neighbor is to blame for starting the whole thing.
I remember these cartoons being rerun in the 60s when I was a kid. I just didn't realize at the time how spousal -abusive they were. But then, back when I was a kid, cartoon violence was just funny. Of course, you couldn't have a cartoon where the man beats up the woman.
I had never known Terrytoons had made Widescreen/Cinemascope cartoons before a few months ago, mainly due to the fact that (as far as I know) there aren't any Cinemascope cartoons in public domain and I had only been exposed to public domain Terrytoons for a long time.
You can blame much of that on older comics like George McManus's "Bringing Up Father" or H. T. Webster's Caspar Milquetoast. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bringing_Up_Father en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspar_Milquetoast
I saw this as a kid and, for whatever reason, it stuck in my head. Thanks for uploading.
Wow, haven't seen this in years. Thanks for uploading.

I'm sure people thought this way as well.

Funny, I can see the UPA animation influence
Compliments of former UPA alumni Gene Deitch back when he lived in New York and worked at TerryToons

Super cool and awesome!
I wouldn't say that to Jane Punching him for no reason. More like I will just punch her like that horrendously
Cute, but a bit sad in a way, the cat-and-dog view of marriage back then, the women are domineering harpies and the men hopeless jerks.
