- We play with Asus' new ZenFone 5 smartphone at MWC 2018, to see how this 6.2-inch handset aims to improve on the ZenFone 4.
With its front-filling screen, iPhone X-style notch, dual lens camera tech and slick Zen UI 5 software, the ZenFone 5 2018 already looks to be a winner. It's coming to the UK soon and we'll be revealing the pricing very soon. But for now, here's a look at the specs, camera tech and general experience.

Asus has made an amazing job this year! They been able to make a 6.2 inch device which fit in a compact body, and even beating Fruit company at bezel-less design. :D The specs are also good, the design is good. Hats off to Asus!

You are such an over react baby for candies.. this phone looks just okay with that _i-notch_ above and looks like Sammy in the bottom. It's not bad but it's not WOW as well. I was a big fan of Zenfone series, but why should following what others has made? It just makes your company below the bar.
I don't care what people say about the design, I love it regardless. It's not like Asus is denying that they took inspiration from iPhone. They even did a comparison with the notch of iPhone X. Lol. An iPhone design in an Android phone in an Asus brand. That's all win for me.

I don't think it's a copy.... A notch is a feature of many phones and apple didn't actually invent the notch in the first place.... Also there is a rear mounted fingerprint and a nice vinyl record sort of reflection on the back. The notch is smaller on this phone as well which is a big plus because with the size if the iPhones notch it mayswell just be a full bezel
And iPhone bended there OLED display to keep the bezels small all the way round
wow, I am actually hyped about ASUS phones because the starting price of Asus ZenFone 5z was announced to be just 479 Euros, that is insane... good job ASUS 😎 and this midranger ZenFone 5 also looks really good

Yeah that is wayy better than OnePlus or anything. And given how well they make their phones ever since the Zenfone 3, that is the best bargain of the year.

Rishi Naik ikr. Imagine when you put the beautiful wallpapers and those wallpaper can be shown at the full screen. What a nice. Asus also shows that they can put 3.5mm jack port and fingerprint reader with iphone x's design.

Not if it's made right....I agree with Jonathan Li,if it were not for selfie lovers ,NONE of this stupid notch shit would have any part in the hardware designs of smartphone displays.The iPhone X is not a success story to begin with.When I first saw the Apex pop up camera I thought,finally someone got smart!!If the Apex becomes a reality,I'm getting one.

I really like the design of this phone, especially for the rumoured price. The under bezel is thin but it could be a little bit thinner. The phone looks great. Only thing is the notch which is probably not going to be used with a lot of android app not optimized for the screen estate.
Achillias the phone is getting quite popular and if it sells well(which it looks like it will) the apps will be optimized
Achillias andriod P (android 9) is supposed to have support for notches so if the Asus ZenFone 5 and 5z get android P then apps will optimized for the extra screen estate

opted for the zenphone 5, and been using it the past 2 weeks, and the phone rocks... 5z is more for people who use their phones for hardcore gaming, but you probably should have other gadgets for that..
If it's water/dust resistant, it's a deal but cannot see that specified anywhere...
Well at that price point am surely gonna go for its top variant, hope it launches soon in India

I don't understand why any OEM would copy the iPhone X's design. The notch is downright disgusting, the rear camera module looks absolutely hideous. Sigh.
It's a chinese company rarely do they have any originality. Why would you try and make something original when you can just copy a proven design? Makes things cheaper and would make marketing a whole lot easier. I personally think the design is dope, I just don't like that it's straight out piracy. They could have at least used a different camera module placement. They even copied that one from the iphone x
Thế Hoàng Nguyễn the notch is just there to increase the screen to body ratio,the aspect ratio is 19:9 so the notch doesn't matter much,the screen around the notch is only for the notification bar and this is android you can probably eliminate the notch with some software

5z starts at 479 euros. But it has the Snapdragon 845 chip. Don't know about the 5 but probably around 350-400 euros.

Another trend is also the over-under dual camera lens placement (although differently functioned), as well as the HTC 10-originated dual speaker ("hi-fi" - 2 way single speaker, actually) configuration that appeared later in 2016 on the IPhone 7... Now the new S9 (speakers)/S9+ (utilizes both features) iterations have them... Probably more manufacturers in the future will follow suit, now that both Apple and Sammy sport it...

I hope ASUS adds antiglare on their mobile devices aswell just like the screens of their laptops. I know laptop screens are different from mobile but you know it's free to dream for it lol.
Anti glare sacrifices the contrast and sharpness. Negligible for daily use only, very for multimedia purpose. But an antiglare tempered glass would be nice tho

This copycat that I'd buy, it gives premium look which @pple gives and functions of its own, plus I could get it just for under USD 400.
- Rear 2 cameras which are usable and separate focal points.
- Stereo speakers.
- Headphone jacks exist.
- AI functions which are quite useful.

Why Android phones now are copying iPhone X? I really miss the original look of old Android phones. No more Android phones originality, iPhone seems to be their role model.
