      Agreed - my first Yamaha was a BB424 which was a brilliant little bass. Regret selling it, but I have since acquired a BB1024 and more recently a BB434. Both brilliant! The 1024 is a tad heavy but probably my best bass!

    Some people make such a drama around the truss rod adjusting. I remember in the 80s my brother got a Gibson SG and had to get the truss rod adjusted, well you would have thought the guitar was going in for major surgery mixed with witchcraft to hear the guy that was going to do it. I JUST ordered one in pewter, a 4-string. I haven't touched a bass in over 3 years and I want to get back into playing. And even before that I wasn't ever really great at the bass but definitely I have a good grasp of the basics. So I decided to go cheaper than what I used to play instead of a $500 Washburn I'm going with this cheaper but probably just as good Yamaha bass to re-start my journey in learning to get good at this amazing instrument. I think this is the greatest choice to start and keep until the end of my days and if I get anywhere near as good as these guys I can upgrade to more expensive basses. I'd still keep this one though. And I will be pairing it with a Hartke HD50 amp I decided to get with it too. Wish me luck!

    I have a TRBX605. And yes, these basses sound pretty much like in the demo, a little anemic out of the box if you ask me. CHANGE THE STRINGS IMMEDIATELY! You will notice and incredibly improved sound instantly. Ernie Ball Cobalts (even the EB Cobalt Flats) will put some cojones into the sound. The output will rise drastically and you might have to lower the pickups. D'Addario NYXL's, DR Pure Blues are a huge improvement as well. Also, pickup height is critical. I love that my bass only weighs 8.1 pounds! They are versatile basses, but if you're looking for the ping and zing that slap requires, a SR505 with Bartolinis might be a better choice.

      i've always wondered this about bass players. is the reason you guys leave strings on for so long because 1. you don't need to very often 2. have very little practice doing so because of lack of need 3. hesitation because of cost.
      as a banjo and guitar player i feel like i change strings almost as often as i practise.

    • @FenderBassMan
      @FenderBassMan 3 роки тому

      @@Yourmomma568 Speaking only for myself, I tend to replace strings on each bass around twice a year. Also having played guitar, I've concluded that strings should be replaced more frequently due to their being smaller gauge than bass strings; thinner strings seem more susceptible to wear from skin oil's dilute acids and oxidation. That bass strings are more expensive per set is another reason why a lot of players hesitate to replace them often. Furthermore, changing bass strings are quite simple, yet replacing strings with lighter or heavier gauge sets requires a good working knowledge of truss rod, bridge saddle, and intonation adjustment to compensate for the gauge differences.

    if you only had one bass to have for everything between these Yamaha TRB or the Marcus Miller Sire's? that Yamaha really cuts thru however those Sire's kinda have a more conventional sound whereas the Yamaha leans towards a more modern sound? Ive played them both in a few situations and the Sire was nice but far less quality in the build, as well as very heavy at 11lbs and super neck heavy so it dives. Also that C shape neck felt nice, but when I picked up the Yamaha [being bias to Sire] Itruelry wanted and expected it to out shine the Yamaha but to my dismay the Yamaha simply felt,, sounded, as well as that Shape with ergonomic's simply felt smoother to me. and Sire is imitating the first build of electric basses & Yamaha is focused on modern touches. Started with a TRBX 170. Spent a month testing out a Fender Jazz, Pbass, Musicman, Ibanez, even a Cort.
    Went with a trbx504. It has a really good range and fast neck. Very enjoyable to play. :)

    Can someone explain what quid is? I've heard so many British reviewers say something is X amount of quid, but I thought your currency was pounds. Is that like cents in the US?
    ...also I want one of those 505s. Great stuff!

      Quid is a slang word for pound (like dollars are called bucks)

    I love the affordable bass reviews, but how about some upscale basses? Like the Nathan East and or Billy Sheehan models. I’d love to hear how those sound. Thank you.

    Oh wow, the 304 kinda has the ability to sound like a stingray. Considering I've always been looking for that tone and stingrays are hard to find in our country, I just might go for the 304 instead 🤔

      @@akinkunmiogunbiyi658 neither. Budget got tight at the time and I settled for a 174EW sadly. Would go for the stingray if I had waited longer though since they're finally available here.

    Just my opinion, but I would never let someone else moving the knobs of my bass, for me it feels like someone grabbing my balls... btw I have a TRBX305 since 2015 and is just a piece of gold (except for those moments when the battery dies so is just a piece of shit, but I've learned to keep a constant battery replacement in my bag).
    Very good review and comparison.
