  • This is the second in a series of 3 videos where I will be making big 20" quilt blocks.
Each block pattern can be used to make a quick and easy quilt that comes together fast because the blocks are so big - perfect for beginner quilters!
These videos combined are also part of my Big Blocks Quilt Along where we will be taking all 3 of these big blocks and making one throw-sized quilt with them.

What is your favorite type of big quilt block to make?

The block I've enjoyed the most is Garlic Knots. But I have drawn out your block and it will be made eventually.

I like to make lap quilts for nursing home residents that are just one giant log cabin. Love the quilt a long. Thanks! Love the variety in your work. I use a lot of denim or recycled men's corduroy pants mixed with recycled men's heavy flannel shirts.

Never made a block larger than 15.5"... will definitely give it a try!
May require a trip to the store to buy some "scraps" 😂
Love that you fast fwd thru the sewing. Watching ppl sew in real time is rather boring. I watch YT on a TV which doesn't allow me to adjust my playback speed. (I can skip fwd tho).
    ❤Thanks!❤
This will be a quick quilt!

Yes big blocks make it super quick! I didn’t realise you can’t adjust the speed on the TV - thanks for the info!

Hi Kristen, this was a lot more effective than I thought. I loved all the colours.I have never done a large block, maybe I'll try this one 💛

Big blocks make a calm and welcoming quilt. I've tended to the zillion piece tiny block in the past, but its time now to really attack the stash and get MORE quilts to friends and family. Quick is good. Thanks for the encouragement to do that. ))))

Great pattern so large, because the effect is stunning! And you have a Pfaff quilt expression 720, I love this machine! Couldn't live without it!

Excellent Kristen and thank you once again. The graphic in the video is very helpful. I was already thinking at the beginning "I am going to cut the outer strips just a bit wider and then trim".

That is so lovely. I like the baby quilt design where they back up to one another.

Tip: two 2 1/2” strips sewn together yields a 4 1/2” strip. When I made the first blocks I used all 2 1/2” strips from my strip bin. Some of which i had doubles and I sewed them together to get my 4 1/2” strips. I’m finding it fun to create such big blocks and play with color.

Love your fabric choices!!! I almost always make big blocks anywhere from 12.5 to 16 inches square (which is my largest square up ruler). I love making 1/2 sq log cabin blocks (maybe my fav), they are so versatile. Greeting from Colorado, USA!
