  • A Warts and All look at freight and loco movements around Frodingham depot, Scunthorpe.
Includes the Tinsley class 20 trio with their bonnet doors stolen from one side arriving for blue replacements.
The footage is at times shaky, unlevel and suffers from poor focusing.
However, it remains a nostalgic look into a bygone era.
Details of workings were difficult to come by at the time
and can't be confirmed so have been mostly omitted.

My memories go back to steam days in the late50's/early 60's. If you think the loco's were dirty in this film they were filthy further back. You sometimes saw a clean steam loco fresh out of overhaul at Doncaster plant on running in turns apart from that nothing just filth. They kept a couple of Cleethorpes - Doncaster services as running in turns steam until 1966 when steam stopped. Everything else was DMU except summer Cleethorpes excursions. WD's in such poor repair steam sprang from everywhere. Loads of ex GC Robinsons. It was much busier back then and the Frodingham 36C steam shed much larger. Happy days though. Valuable historic archive including a green class 47. Happy days when we had three steelworks at Scunny. Thanks for posting.

Thanks - the differences on the railway between 76 and 92 would have been even greater than between 92 and the present day. Pleased you enjoyed it and hope it brought back some happy memories,

Thanks for your kind comments. The location was accessible without crossing any fences by way of a short walk up the bank from the road leading to the coal terminal. I was approached by British Steel security staff towards the end of this session and after a short discussion agreed I wasn't trespassing but also suggested I was a bit close to the railway so I agreed to leave.

Many fond memories of time spent at that location in the late 80's and early 90's together with tours of the steelworks internal track layout. A fantastic video when we had such a variety of freight locos

That was a little warty but well worth watching -- thanks for posting! I'm surprised I don't remember 47401 in two-tone green, as this was right around the time that I was going to several BR open days a year and would have expected to see something like that.

Thanks Jon - totally agree - still go out photographing and taking movies (kind of in the blood) but it takes a lot more effort these days - lack of character and so much vegetation that everywhere looks the same. I have a bit more to process from this era, but not much.
