    I just got that bass and the string heights were just like yours, way up there. I couldn’t get mine anywhere near as low as yours without a ton of fret buzz. Had to settle for a over .100 to get the intonation close on the B and no buzz unless I play hard.

      @JacobBreuwet  Рік тому

      Yeah I can understand that, I do get a bit of fret buzz here and there and like you said especially when I really dig in. I’ll definitely take this in to a proper tech and get it set up and hopefully eliminate those problems! I think it performs much better than other 5-strings in the same price range, but of course it’s not perfect!

      You wont get a low action unless you get a multi scale fan fret that allows the B string to have more tension so it can be set lower without rattling.

    Love the Shellac bass tone

    I have a fret less version of this bass and it’s honestly phenomenal for the price

    Nothing says "I don't gig" like "The bass bridge scratches my arm." 🤪🤪🤪

    • @Billkwando
      @Billkwando 4 місяці тому +1

      Jokes aside (I don't gig either) the sweet spot for picking is closer to the spot in between the neck pickup and fingerboard. The closer you get to the bridge, the more tinny and thin it sounds....unless that's what you're going for. I know it's easier to pick down there because of the string tension, I have to stop myself from gravitating back there on guitar.

      @@Billkwando my guy, I don’t even play bass 😂 and yeah it’s not a major gripe for me was just something I noticed while handling the instrument. For the price it plays and feels very nice. I don’t gig as I’m full time active duty army, have a wife and toddler, also doing full time online university for a bachelors in audio production. I barely have time to play anymore! 😂

    • @JacobBreuwet
      @JacobBreuwet  4 місяці тому +1

      @@Billkwando I definitely get the point about string tension that’s why my guitar strings are all a way thicker gauge than they need to be, that and I also rarely/suck at playing leads

    This model has active pickups? Are any passive?

    • @JacobBreuwet
      @JacobBreuwet  Рік тому

      This model has active pickups yes. This model does not have a passive pickup version however Harley Benton has many passive basses to choose from even in five string!

  • @MrJohnnz
    @MrJohnnz 5 місяців тому +1

    hey, I'm a guitar player but I want to buy a bass, I want a bright crisp crunchy tone, so I'd prefer single pickups but I need to know how to shis singl pickups control distortion, how many ohms do these pickups have, does anyone know? Or humbuckers are better for crunch tone? Cos they may lack crisps and bright right?

    • @JacobBreuwet
      @JacobBreuwet  5 місяців тому +1

      @@MrJohnnz so the nice thing about these pickups is that they are active and have active EQ controls built into the bass. One of the knobs on this bass controls the amount of high end gain and another knob controls the low end gain. Great for sculpting your tone and getting some more clarity and bite from the high end and also more rumble and thump from the low end!

    I bought one and sent it right back. It just felt bad in my hands, but unlike this guy I can play so I can tell the good from the bad. I went and bought the Cort A5 Beyond, with fan frets that allow you to get a decent tone out of the B string instead of it just rattling against the frets and making a dreadful noise as you can hear. Electric guitar players that pick up a bass should wait a few years of playing bass before they make a demo.

      @terrygrady8413 Just wanted to jump in and say that most people (like me) are probably looking at this bass as an option because it’s budget friendly, and we’re mainly guitar players but want a bass to fill out the home studio for the occasional cover song or random fun jam session or something. Not only can I not afford to spend $1300 on a Cort A5 Beyond which is obviously a superior instrument, I also don’t want to spend that much on an instrument that isn’t my main.
      In my opinion you didn’t need to be as rude as you were; you could have just offered your opinion without being passive aggressive about this guy’s skill level, but I’d expect nothing less from an opinionated boomer guitar player who probably has outdated, purist views about guitar playing anyway.
      The whole point of this bass is to get something that plays decently for a good entry price, not to pick up an instrument that’s intended to be an investment or a studio mainstay. Saying “I returned this instrument and bought an obviously vastly superior instrument that’s 4x the price” is not only irrelevant; it’s annoying. Maybe you should relax a bit and let people enjoy things, especially people who might be wanting to try something new or just branch out their musical knowledge.

      @@Cos_ My court cost nowhere near $1300. If you are a guitar player that just wants to do the oidd bass line fine, but you are not the only person in the world and you would not pick a 5 string bass for the odd bass line in your home recording, it is beast to play compared to guitar. There are probably more bass players that watch demos thinking about buying this bass. Not just entry level, I bought 2 and I am way beyond entry level. I have had Fender P, Jazz, Rickenbacker, Gibson, Steinberg, and I have even built my own. You can get a budget Cort for not much more than an HB. The string spacing on a Cort is 16cm where normal bass is 18cm, so if you are a guitar player that thinks they can play a bass it would be easier. Fact is I gave information that probably many bass players that are about to buy a 5 string should need to know. The B string flops about and it will be hard to get a good tone out of it, unless you have very high action, even a seasoned bass play would struggle with it, now a bass player will know this where a guitar player will not. Better informed is a good thing. Because my comment about the guys playing was mainly that a guitar player that is obviously not a bass player is not really equipped to make comment on a bass. A bass is totally a different and much harder to play than a guitar. Maybe I am just an old git that has played bass for over 40 years and know nothing. Most people are not like you. Most people that watch bass a bass demo are or intend to play bass, not just for the odd fill out in a home studio.

      Alright first off yes the cort a5 beyond is a 1300 dollar guitar used probably 850 minimum still is almost 3x more expensive. I've been playing since I was 10 and play both electric and bass sure you got 30 more years more experience than me but it is quite obvious you got a boomer style thought process in the fact of if its not the best of quality I don't want it.I mean seriously what did expect for a 300 dollar guitar.I own 8 string Harley Benton I got at a pawn shop 4 years ago for 240 dollars and it still plays nice and I love the quality.it's not like I got to own a shecter that cost 1800 dollars in order to get good sound or quality.Further more it is not more difficult to play a bass than a guitar at least for me. All I'm saying is not every one has 600 to 1800 dollars to spend on a guitar.i mean my first bass I bought from a pawn shop for 120 dollars.i turned it into a fretless and spent 80 bucks for better pickups and did all sorts of little modifications to it at home to make it sound and look amazing.i mean you literally sound like the type of guy that says yea I bought a 88 Nissan Silvia.it was to slow and low quality for my liking so I scraped it and bought a Porsche 911 turbo.like yea obviously thats going to be a more higher quality vehicle.And didnt have to be rude about the man he literally said he doesn't play bass so why even say you can play a bass better than him.just learn to be respectful.pull your meat out your mouth and get that stick out your ass and understand reality of people not having money and experience like you do.y@@grumpy8413

      @@bospaliden9991 Spoken like a Trump type supporter and all that entails. You make massive assumptions that are all incorrect. I also have several Harley Benton Guitars. There are also other Cort bass guitars that I also have that are not expensive. I have also been building guitars for many years, as well as repairs and setups. The cheap Harley Bentons will all need new electrics and hardwear. The more expensive ones are better and fine as they come. The HBZ 2005 just felt not nice in my hands. at £275 compared to my other Court bass the A5, at £500 came with the best pickups and electric's, hipshot top quality tuners and bridge. The point I was making was if I would have kept the HBZ 2005 I know through the years of having cheap Harley Bentons I would have to have thrown the fittings away. It would have eventually cost more than the Court A5. By the way may A5 Beyond at the time was £850. They are now £1250. The A5 I bought is now a fretless as I ripped the frets out. There is a difference between boomer thought process and what is adequate for the job. Many cheap Harley Bentons can be well made with good quality finnish and woods. But that is just a base for upgrades as the rest is crap and will affect the sound. But if you have lower standards and don't hear the difference then it is all good for you.
