Thanks for taking those juleps for the team! That's right Chad, don't back down, go for the 2 oz!! I may try yours with rye to compliment the minty notes.
So nice. COMPLETELY different than the other three Mint Juleps shown on tv today. Each saying they are “original recipe.” 😳 100 proof sounds good for you!🎊🎉
As I started looking into my Bourbon Journey I was watching all your videos a few years ago as they are fun and informative.....Gonna try this recipe...Thanks for the content and also the Livestreams....There is a reason why u hit 5yrs and provide the community with a giggle and great content..Cheers U 2..
Thanks for the review. I don’t enjoy mixed drinks very often. If I did make one though, I would certainly use a higher proof as well. My preference is to drink my bourbon neat.
I've tried mixing up some Mint Julep's in the past and just couldn't get into them either. I might have to try these out to see if it makes a difference. Maybe the cup has some chemical reaction to it too as I just mixed mine in glassware. Thanks as always!
Proof that you have to listen closely, because I can't explain why but the sounds of seagulls during the syrup pour had me giggling like a madman after I listened a second time.
Something about this channel had me puzzled for so long and I FINALLY figured it out... Chad = Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star-Lord a la Guardians of the Galaxy If you know, you know.
Ode to the Mint Julep: Then comes the zenith of man’s pleasure. Then comes the julep - the mint julep. Who has not tasted one has lived in vain. The honey of Hymettus brought no such solace to the soul; the nectar of the Gods is tame beside it. It is the very dream of drinks, the vision of sweet quaffings. The Bourbon and the mint are lovers. In the same land they live, on the same food they are fostered. The mint dips infant leaf into the same stream that makes The Bourbon what it is. The corn grows in the level lands through which small streams meander. By the brook-side the mint grows. As the little wavelets pass, they glide up to kiss the feet of the growing mint, and the mint bends to salute them. Gracious and kind it is, living only for the sake of others. Like a woman’s heart it gives its sweetest aroma when bruised. Among the first to greet the spring, it comes. Beside gurgling brooks that make music in the fields, it lives and thrives. When the bluegrass begins to shoot its gentle sprays towards the sun, mint comes, and its sweetest soul drinks at the crystal brook. It is virgin then. But soon it must be married to old Bourbon. His great heart, his warmth of temperament, and that affinity which no one understands, demands the wedding. How shall it be? Take from the cold spring some water, pure as angels are; mix it with sugar till it seems like oil. Then take a glass and crush your mint within it with a spoon - crush it around the borders of the glass and leave no place untouched. Then throw the mint away - it is the sacrifice. Fill with cracked ice the glass; pour in the quantity of Bourbon which you want. It trickles slowly through the ice. Let it have time to cool, then pour your sugared water over it. No spoon is needed; no stirring allowed- just let it stand a moment. Then around the brim place sprigs of mint, so that the one who drinks may find the taste and odor at one draft. Then when it is made, sip it slowly. August suns are shining, the breath of the south wind is upon you. It is fragrant cold and sweet - it is seductive. No maidens kiss is tenderer or more refreshing, no maidens touch could be more passionate. Sip it and dream-it is a dream itself. No other land can give you so much sweet solace for your cares; no other liquor soothes you in melancholy days. Sip it and say there is no solace for the soul, no tonic for the body like old Bourbon whiskey. - Joshua Soule Smith I consider myself lucky to have been introduced to this ode as recited my Chris McMillian ( ua-cam.com/video/gJV-O1e10z8/v-deo.html )
I've made mint juleps in the past and thought they were disgusting. However, I don't recall them having any citrus and they definitely had muddled mint. Probably used Woodford and sugar rather than honey syrup. I completely agree that ANY cocktail should be made with at least 100 proof liquor but anything over ~114 is too high. I'm going to a wine tasting from 3-5 tomorrow but may pick up some mint, etc on the way home and give these recipes a try.
I blame you both for mentioning that Sonic Ice... it's the only reason I now know there is one 15min away... also I might have gone there to get a burger after watching this. 🖖😎🥃
I prefer 3:1 honey:water for my honey syrup, and you don’t have to actually boil the water, just warm water and a whisk in a measuring cup and you can stir it into the syrup consistency
My tip for everyone, get yourselves some Woodford Reserve Barrel Aged Bitters. Put the Angostura away for a last resort. Are they pricier? Absolutely. Are they much better Abso-friggin-lutely. They come in a pack with regular, spiced cherry, orange, sassafras sorghum and chocolate. Fun experiments ensue, trust me... even though I'm a complete stranger and you have no reason to. Do it anyway!
@@ItsBourbonNight I respectfully disagree. I've never had or seen a Mint Julep without the mint being muddled to impart the mint flavor. Its the mint that makes it a Mint Julep. Otherwise it's just a julep.

Awesome burger Chad... Nice!😆
Thanks, KC!

Grapefruit definitely works with bourbon and rye. I had an old-fashioned with grapefruit and cardamom bitters. Great spin on a classic drink.
I just bought a bottle of old Forrester 100 for my mint julep. I will definitely give your recipe a try.
thanks guys.... entertaining and knowledge....great

I have most of the stuff to try your recipe looks like I’m gonna get the rest to try it!
You all are from Lexington? Nice, so am I. Great video!
Sonic ice is my favorite ice for cocktails. Chick fil a’s is a close second though
For a second I thought the "Its Derby Day" cocktail was just going to be a straight pour! Haha
That would have been awesome, should have done that!
They also sell that ice by the bag at Sonic.
sounds delicious!
I would use a high proof as well
Ice crushing is therapeutic!

Looks tasty! I’m going a similar route this year and making my Juleps out of Early Times BiB (the Brown-Forman bottling).

I much prefer the Woodford spire they also make for the derby, but I use wild Turkey 101 for the bourbon
Spire is better than the Julep, making it for the derby tomorrow. Will be using Wild Turkey Rye.

Had a "real" meaning with Bourbon mint julep for the first time with my mamaw last year with Buffalo trace thought it was great 👍
Good video - thanks 🥃
Derby Day Julips and cheeseburgers.....yummy!

I envy Chad that he found Sara.
It’s called a Lewis bag for the Ice smashing. Call it IBN Mint Brown Derby Julep!!!
Yes indeed!
You guys are The Best!!!

I'm surprised they don't use the double oaked in that expensive julep
You have to give the mint a slappy poo, give it a little crushy pants
#ItsSonicNight
I bought old foresters mint julep bottle this year just to punish people with while watching the race. $20 we’ll spent
You didn't muddle the mint leaves to get the mint flavoring to the drink.
You don't have to, but you can!
