Best putting advice ever; hold the putter like it’s a baby bird. Hands so soft you almost drop the club. Through the entire stroke. It’s tough to do but essential.
John, you should absolutely keep trying to hit different kinds of shots - low, high, draw, fade. It might take longer to really lower your scores doing it that way, but ultimately you'll be a better player. And as you say, you need to do what brings you joy in the game! There's nothing like being able to shape the shot you need and pull it off. I enjoy your videos, John!
It finally hit me that I wasn’t play the golf I should.I was trying to go for every shot and was trying to score the best but after watching every video of your you play it safe and make a lot of pars. You have inspired me to play a lot better golf. Thank you!!!
I saw some good shots out there , early season golf , rite from my own heart , as soon as the snow is out and the courses open start hitting , and uncrowded , love it !
Two tips that improved my putting: keep the putter off the green. You want the putter to be like 0.25" off the ground. When you place your putter on the ground at the start, you will tend to lean on it a little bit for balance. Then when you bring the putter back, your balance gets screwed up and your club path will be off. Number two, try keeping the putter shaft slightly more upright. Feels awkward at first, but it helps a lot. Your putting is definitely improving. What kills a score is having several 3-4 putts. You seem to be consistently 2 putting which isn't bad at all. You are getting a better feel for how hard/soft to putt the ball, your alignment is just screwed up.
John - Today one of your videos from a year ago popped up on my recommendations, so I of course watched, assuming it was a new video. Through the whole video I kept thinking you put a lot of weight back on and your golf game had really deteriorated. Come to find out it was an old video, but really highlights how much progress you've made from both a fitness and golf perspective. Very motivating - keep it up!
Hey John. Check out the channel called Golf sidekick, got some helpful videos on course management and how to improve your scores. Keep up the good work 👍
Incredible seeing how your driver has gotten a lot better since last year! You were commenting a lot on the putting (which did improve a lot) but I found your driver improved the most!
hey john, im new to the channel. I cant get enough. ive played a lot of these courses since being from northeast ohio myself. weights melting off. great job! keep em straight.
Driver looking great, putting looked WAY better. Chipping is hard. Good 9! Ps: I shot 89 on sim with 39 stupid putts Sunday. The one day I hit well I can’t putt!
Awesome video John! You hit it pretty well for the most part...keep it going! I played Darby Creek on Saturday and shot 101...ouch! Far from my best but it’s a hard course and my first time out this year. Anyhow, so good to see you on a real golf course again! I can’t wait till the next video drops!!!
JB, ever think about going with a lighter putter? I used to suuuucckk at putting especially on the slower muni greens. Went to a 345g head and distance control got way better. Now I feel totally confident over all my putts. Also consider getting fit. You make 40% of your score with the flat stick... don't mess around and make sure it's dialed in.
Chippewa is one of my favorite courses! Easy enough to shoot decent but still challenging enough for a low handicapper! And you said Doylestown correctly!
Long game is adequate. Time to turn focus on scoring. Inside 125 is where your strokes are at. Wedges and putter. Great improvement since the start of this channel. Keep it up!
I’m originally from Stow and have played all these courses before. Kind of cool to see you playing tracks I have played. I live in FL now so I can play year round, If you ever make it down here to the Tampa/Orlando area I can show/tell you some great courses to play. My buddy (also from Stow) works ar Innisbrook, site of the Valspar Championship. I have been lucky enough to playCopperhead a few times.
Just a little advice, I was also bad chipping around the green, but I was able to get better by hitting a bump and round with an 8 iron swinging th club just like a putt, great vid
I think on #7 you should try a iron of the tee and put it in the middle leave you something left wher you can use a PW into the green!! Still very cool video!! Also I would work on the 100yards in shots it will definitely help you lower your scores!!
Hey john, wanted to restate that ending quote of you shaping shots and height wise. Hitting it straight is a terrible thought to have for a any amateur because no amateur will always hit the ball straight. So what i always say and what everyone says play YOUR shot and what you’re comfortable with. But do not try anything you know you’re not capable of also until you’ve practiced it enough. My personal thoughts coming from a junior golfer.
Great vid bro you played great, and my dad gets mad at me when I say okay I’m going to try to hit a draw here and he’s like just try to get it to the green but you know what I mean John you get it 😂
Glad you're back in the great outdoors. Happy spring in any case. Lets nip this chipping in the bud. Go to Phil MIckleson's chipping 101 video on youtube. Hinge and hold, hinge and hold. Watch it 10 times. You'll be good good to go!
Your getting better brother. On putting, make sure your wrist, hands, and forearms are not to move. You put with your shoulders and chest. If it helps, place your right index finger down the shaft. It should help you to keep your hands out of the putt and gives you feedback on hitting the dead center of the putter and great feel on distance. Keep the head still looking at something in front of the ball and concentrating on rolling the ball over that spot, even on short putts. Good luck and God bless you John.
If you go back and watch your putting stroke john, the reason your leaving everything to the right is because you are putting left to right spin on the ball. You can see you club face at impact and the way you kind of cut across it. If you eliminate that you'll save 5+ strokes no doubt
Once you get better at reading the greens and getting closer to the hole on chips you’ll easily be down 3-4 strokes a round. Impressive score without any long putts or super good chips.
Your short iron shots are great imagine your score if u could just drive around 230-240 yards. As someone that can only drive about 220 it sucks being over 160 out on Par 4’s almost every hole.
New to your channel, finally videos for us crappy players lol. Maybe suggest buying a chipper? It's a putter and wedge combined and is a legal club. My short game is horrible too and the chipper has greatly improved my short game. Also, it appears your clubs are too short.
A couple of those chips close to the green you probably could of got closer by just using your putter. It is easy to fat or thin a chip on a tight lie...use the chipper when the grass is higher. If you are only five or ten feet off the green on grass not much higher than fringe just hit it up there with a putter.
I have literally just started playing golf again for the first time since being about 14 years old any advice to get going I feel really self conscious about going out on the course have just been going to the driving range so far.
Try having equal grip pressure, because it will help you have a square face on impact. Also try to stand more on the balls of your feet to help hit down on the ball.
I've got the same putter...I'm a decent putter. At 3:19 looks like you've got some of the yips. Keep swinging a pendulum motion back and through, no wrists - repeat 3x. Should feel like you're coaxing the ball there. Finesse. Don't hit the ball there (2:33). On long putts - long smooth pendulum.
Hey John! Would love to have ya come play my home course sometime this summer! Whispering Creek GC Sioux City, Iowa. Beautiful and tough course give it a look online, think you would enjoy the challenge!
tee shots look a lot better. Work on chipping, pitching and putting. Watch Tim Yelverton's stuff on chipping and pitching, really simple and easy to understand and execute. Have a great golf season
Sneaky short! Keep playing and practicing and you will pick up more distance. My suggestion is to work on chipping and putting for a couple of hours 2 or 3 times a week! Get those hands ahead of the ball and the shaft lean is your friend! More consistent contact. You will get it and your scores will drop! Ive had some many students over the years with the exact same scoopy motion. Keep grinding!!!
Try being less "wristy" on your chips. It is too difficult to be consistent. It also causes you to jab at the ball, which causes all of your chips to be hit fat. Practice being smooth, and swinging through the ball....deceleration is bad. Coming along nicely though...
Playing there next week...Thanks for the preview!
Best putting advice ever; hold the putter like it’s a baby bird. Hands so soft you almost drop the club. Through the entire stroke. It’s tough to do but essential.

Yessssssss more golf! Good luck with your upcoming filming! #FGG #FGGANG

Great progress one of my favorite channels!
It finally hit me that I wasn’t play the golf I should.I was trying to go for every shot and was trying to score the best but after watching every video of your you play it safe and make a lot of pars. You have inspired me to play a lot better golf. Thank you!!!
Well played John, keep up the great work. Your an inspiration to us "average Joe's".
Looking good sir, enjoying following your story
Great video John
Great video as always John! Thanks!
Putting: Think "speed, speed, speed".
The conditions make me feel good to live in Southern California. As a fat golfer I love the channel. Keep it up.
Honestly john the progress that youve made is amazing you should be proud of yourself , keep it up!
Yes sir! Just played yesterday here in Michigan, playing tomorrow and I’m pumped for the year to come. Have a great season John!
I saw some good shots out there , early season golf , rite from my own heart , as soon as the snow is out and the courses open start hitting , and uncrowded , love it !
nice to see you on the course John!

Matthew Hallett I second this
I third it. Big fan
I fourth this.

Incredible seeing how your driver has gotten a lot better since last year! You were commenting a lot on the putting (which did improve a lot) but I found your driver improved the most!
Live and work in the area. Chippewa is a great course:). Nice and open so it bails me out when I hit my “Power fade” 😂
Felt the confidence with the driver!!
hey john, im new to the channel. I cant get enough. ive played a lot of these courses since being from northeast ohio myself. weights melting off. great job! keep em straight.
Can already see the swing speed picking up! Seems like a promising golf season coming up. Good work
Driver looking great, putting looked WAY better. Chipping is hard. Good 9!

You are one of the smallest youtubers I watch but definitely one of the best!!
Wow great round John!!
That course looks cool

Yesss I couldn't wait for you to post, I love your course vlogs. You should do a bag of 2019 video/fitting video
Lookin good. Still a few feet of snow on the ground here so ill rely on you for my golf fix for now.
hey honestly you look great and i can see your game improving , been watching since the begining and cant wait to see future uploads😊
Looking good bro! Glad fat guy golf is back outside!
Long game is adequate. Time to turn focus on scoring. Inside 125 is where your strokes are at. Wedges and putter. Great improvement since the start of this channel. Keep it up!
Very good improvement from the last video I seen, great work
Work on putting and chipping, you can take a ton of strokes off from your chipping to get close to hole the at most 2 putt after chipping
9:23 I thought someone was in the tree (top left)
👍 great vid John

I’ve gotten 2 rounds in so far this year from upstate New York. A little cold but well worth it. Here’s to a good season!
You drove fantastic
Just a little advice, I was also bad chipping around the green, but I was able to get better by hitting a bump and round with an 8 iron swinging th club just like a putt, great vid
Crushing the ball baby. All that lifting 💪💪
Really hope you break 90 on next video! great channel man. Cheering for you from Argentina!

The hardest shot in golf is a straight one. Only Moe Norman could do it repeatedly. Figuring out a go-to shot is a good idea though. ie. Fade
Love your videos man!
Swing is looking great bro keep up the work
Keep it up! You look a whole lot better than last year.
Hell yeah, been waiting on your next video! Hope all is well man
big fan man. love what youre doing. keep it up
Nice drive!

Fellow Ohio golfer here! I’d love to see a video on Mohican Hills, it’s a great course and only ~45 min from Chippewa
Great vid bro you played great, and my dad gets mad at me when I say okay I’m going to try to hit a draw here and he’s like just try to get it to the green but you know what I mean John you get it 😂
Love the vid. Your hitting the ball good. Keep it up

There are some good courses down here in the Dayton/Cincinnati area if you feel like a mini road trip
Alright alright alright! REAL golf from @John Baker signals the start of the season!
Man, I'm dying to get out and golf... and drink some beer. lets hope the weather gets better.
Looking good bro keep up the good work
Looks like your on your way to Chubby guy golf, great job with your progress
love your vids man
Have you ever looked into the Impact Snap training device?!

Putting looked better. Off the tee box has improved. Those 50 yard and in shots are what will really improve your score once you get that rhythm down.
Hey John what do you use to get that red shot chaser?
Grass the way it is due to snow pack over the winter?

Nice putt on hole 4!
Check out boulder creek on the east side of clevlanf
I thought the FatGuyGolf silhouette emblem in the top left was a black bin liner stuck in the tree lol
Nice work there dude. Where do you get your golf clothes? Those look like the comfiest shorts I’ve ever seen lol
Hitting the driver well mate
When is the back 9 coming? I won't watch this until its out lol but I liked the video anyway
You are like me you have all the shots just hit them at the wrong time ha ha ha, keep up the good work your looking slimmee
tee shots look a lot better. Work on chipping, pitching and putting. Watch Tim Yelverton's stuff on chipping and pitching, really simple and easy to understand and execute. Have a great golf season
Looking slim man!!!
You ever play Eagle sticks in Zanesville?
good job
Who’s your bet for the masters win. You look great

Where you been at big guy?
I thought your driver looked pretty good too along with better putting, chipping killed ya a bit there.
Where do you live? Cause you play all the same courses I play .. just curious
Like where you go to the store to get fit for clubs or lesson videos so I can learn how to not slice
