Same here. I’m just about to turn 70. I spent many happy holidays in Criccieth camping, and later in a four berth touring caravan with my sister and late parents. I still go for days out with my dog and always enjoy a Cadwalladers ice cream. ❤️
Reminds me of my dad taking cine film of us kids back in the 70's, somehow nostalgic for me. Lovely and refreshing to watch something that doesn't involve swearing. I will be watching more now i've found this.
Thank you for your kind words. Even though it was quite horrific at times, the last two days made up for it. Good and bad memories, but kids loved it, even if Scott did go a bit greyer that week..😆
Could of been worse,,leek could of been over a bed ? Great family fun,,you all seem very happy,i wish your little family blessings love happiness and all the best,,lifes hard and it these little things that really matter....
Hi and yes, over the bed would have been a nightmare, so definitely one way of looking at it. I will tell Scott we were lucky on that trip, but unsure that he will feel the same😄
Your children will still be talking about this holiday in 50 years time and how their father and mother made the stay so memorable. Good luck for the next one, maybe a winter camp next time. Lovely video, it’s all on the tube, well edited. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind comments, and lol, even if the kids do not remember it, I know Scott will never forget it. And I will be nudging him for a Winter holiday too. The Winters are so long, it is terrible being confined to the house for +6 months...
It's always worthwhile spending a couple of hours on the first trip with a couple of litres of Fabsil waterproofer and a Poundshop pressure spray bottle and a cloth, It took me a few years to learn that lesson.
The fact you venture out gets a huge amount of respect from me. You made the best of a situation and I'd rather be out than couped up at home. Had money a wet and stormy camps. It's all a part of the experience. Stay blessed and keep camping.
Thank you so much for your comment, good to know it comes from a fellow camper. Think after a few trips in the rain we get a bit hardened to it, and then appreciate that the good sunny days make up for it...all good memories..
@@TheHadwinsTV It will get better, sometimes you check the weather and rain arrives when no rain is predicted so just go with the flow. I think you need to buy "Dometic Seam Sealer 60ml Awnings Tents Waterproof" Also "get Scotchgard Water Shield Waterproof Tent Gear Clothing Protector Spray 400ml" for everywhere else. You should be fine after this. You will need quite a few tubes of the sealant may be 4, to paint it on all around the seams. It paints on wet and hardens as it dries. Possibly 2 cans of the spray. 2014 family of 4 very similar camping weather and kids roughly same ages. Toughed it out and made wonderful memories, time really does go by so fast - enjoy it :)
Reminds me of our family three days camping in wales, (should have been a week) Crossed the severn bridge beautiful sunshine from dorset into wales. Up to brecon beacons started to rain, put the tent up in the rain then rained solid and steady for three days, mum stood on her glasses, after three days took the tent down drove back across the severn then beautiful sunshine. Took a week to dry the tent out. Experience never forgotten, 60 years ago. Lol i love wales really, my wife and I had our honeymoon in wales.
Hi Stave, so glad it is not just us, but by the sounds of it your trip was worse than ours. The common element though is definitely the Welsh weather. Has its own seasons...
You had some bad days and good days but it was a experience and kids still enjoyed their holiday when weather picked up! All kids enjoy the outdoors especially when weather is good 👍 love ❤️ your holiday and making memories
I paid good money for one of the best quality synthetic fiber tents that can be bought for this reason. Because I hate pitching in the rain. In fact, I won't. If the weather is bad and not breaking I'll go home. My peace is worth more than the lost fees.
Re: the leak. Maybe the problem is (made worse by) the fact that the retaining straps appear to pull down the apex of the tent to create a pool where the rain sits instead of being allowed to run off. Probably you’ll say well I always pitch like that - but if the seam has got dodgy it could make things worse….IDK - just a thought. Good vid. Memories are made of this eh? 😊
Hi, yes, a lot of people say it was due to us having storm straps too tight, but at some points the wind was so strong, we needed everything up to prevent the tent from taking off...
@@TheHadwinsTV Storm straps were my thoughts too, but regardless of any potential pooling on top of the tent, the hydrostatic head of the casa lux fabric should be able to handle it, as long as the seems are taped / sealed properly. I guess the straps were pulling at the seems too much weakening the sealing tape. Reseal all seems inside and out with some Fabsil seem sealer, and reproof the entire outside of the tent with something like HLS FS-75 Fabric sealer (you'll need a pressurised spray bottle.) Do this and the tent will last for years longer. Stick the Fabsil in your camping gear, and next time this happens, you only have to wait for a dry few hours to reseal on site. Or just cut your losses and replace the tent, we're getting rid of our Casa Lux after just 2 short uses, because without the doors fully open, the airflow is rubbish. Any hint of Sun and we bake, due to there only being one mesh door. We much prefer our smaller Icarus 500DLX for it's build quality and better design. That has a mesh door on the side and front, so that you can open up both for great airflow without letting bugs in.
The storm straps - and just the general action of the fabric pulling against the stitches - will cause the seam holes to open up a bit, and the seam tape will stop working. The answer is to bodge that area on both sides with some seam sealant next time it's dry (thinned with a mix of 75% seam sealant, 25% mineral spirits).
We had a camping holiday in North Wales years ago. It rained so much we had to buy sand shovels to dig a trench around the tent but at least the rain water flowed into the moat. It didn't put us off we had great holidays in our tent. Please don't let it put you off
Thankyou for our morning chuckle. It took us both back to times past with the wet tents, bored kids and grumpiness. Never mind, one day you will be old like us and able to go off in a campervan and safe in the knowledge that your, now grown up kids, are repeating what you went through with them. 😂
Hi, funnily enough we are going to look at campervans soon. Unsure if we can find one big enough for us..But if we do, that will be our next set of adventures👍
When we look at the video now, we think the journey there was an omen. It is a beautiful drive through snowdonia, when you can see it...Unfortunately we didnt heed the warning the clouds were trying to tell us...🙄
When I was in the army we had a poncho. It was a huge green groundsheet with a hood in the middle. Totally waterproof and you could wear it over everything and you never ever got wet no-matter how hard it was raining. All in all a great piece of kit. Poncho's all round recommended.
Hi, think it is a case of us being to soft these days. And camping now with a poncho would be great content. Unsure what Scott would think of it, but I certainly would like him to try😄
Camped down Wales couple of weeks ago rained the whole time plenty of indoor activities for kids bounce below underground mines etc. we had great time.
We always loved camping have done rain and sunshine, been to some amazing camp sites, unfortunately have now got too old to put up and take the tent down, having electric was a big plus for us.
This is exactly why I go to Spain every year for at least one week. So that the kids can have a great time on the beach, sea, pool etc. For me, the weather makes or breaks a holiday. We usually also have a week in the UK but I always book last minute when I see that the weather is going to be ok.
Hi, we are currently in Spain at the moment, Scott had decided we needed a holiday after that break. And you are definitely right about last minute bookings in UK. Think this summer alone proves that...
Hats off to you mr and Mrs, my 1st vid 110% and see the time you put in many , months previous! Keep on keeping on, love it . Am an out and about person myself but some need a nudge and you are doing that for sure. It’s an attitude to life that some miss . 😊
Hi, we agree, we do holidays abroad as well as camping..but if you ask the kids which they prefer, it is always the spur of the cuff, lets go in the tent this week that they prefer..👍
Hi, lol, we actually tried jigsaws with Amy, took us a while to pick them all up, as she kept knocking the table over. But, we are stocking up on some board games for future trips👍
Tents were generally made of canvas back in the 50's 60's 70's. They were inherently water proof. The modern tent is made of plastic and you can often see light through the stitching. I see that they often come with a warning: Drizzle proof.! We spent 40 years under canvas all over the country ;our first plastic tent was a shocker.
Did 4 years at Aberdaron on the bounce with the GK's. 1st time was great, it poured it down for the other 3. The final time was pretty much like your week, the field was draining under our ground sheet.....Never again ! Got home, sold the tent, bought a motorhome and never looked back..... 7 years later and not a single regret. The GK's are grown now and don't come any more so just the 2 of us. No way I would go back to tenting. Some fantastic memories though so make the most of it...
Hi, I think the camping in the rain makes you appreciate the campervan more. Think it is part of the camp evolution. Start off in tent and if ypu enjoy that work your way up like you have. 👍
This reminds me of a few miserable camping holidays with my parents in (soaking wet) Wales back in the 80/90’s. The reason I’ve never gone back in a tent with my kids! Good on you for doing it though!👍
Thanks for going ahead with the camping trip with all the rain. Trying to get my wife and 3 kids under 5 to go camping think I will hold off till 2024. In Ireland we always say 1st week of August is a write off (Tail end of US hurricanes blow across the Atlantic with wind and rain. First 2 weeks in September when the kids go back to school the weather improves
Thanks Hugh. And yes agree, it looks like camping in August is pretty much a no go. We went in May and it was great, but after this Scott is looking at going abroad or at a caravan. But that is him dreaming..Sure we will be uploading another camping video soon😁
Hi, yes It is a beautiful beach, but we all agreed that Black Rock Sands was the best we saw. Caves, lovely walks and scenery and massive expanses of sand. Worth a visit if there..
Been going north wales for 50 years now, decided to buy a caravan in Criccieth 4 years ago and absolutely love it.......best beaches are Porth dinllaen,Porth Towyn and Porth oer if you ever go again....stay at Towyn farm in tudweliog, its about 20 mins from Criccieth.
Hi, lol, think Scott feels like he deserved better, but the countryside there and the views are lovely. Definitely going back there, as when the sun was out, we really enjoyed it..hopefully next time, we will get at least 3 days of sun though🤞
Lovely family-Well done sticking it out and you got some decent weather in the end-Kids remember holidays - My two lads now 25 and 30 still go down to St Ives every year where we used to go when they was young .
Been there, well not that place but another place in similar circumstances, Tent, rain, more rain, cooking outside under a fishing brolly, more rain, however, many a beverage was tasted! Love this upload, so real, something we can relate to, thanks for sharing, and what a lovely family you are, brilliant!
Thank you so much for the comment. We have done a few camping holidays, buy this was especially wet. But still good memories for me and the kids and grey hair for Scott😁
We absolutely love your camping vlogs. Thank you so much for the reviews, sarcasm and giggles! We’re brand new campers and have learned a lot from your vlogs. ❤
Lol, a few people have said that. Unfortunately we were pretty new to camping. Bit older and wiser now though, and yes, a tube of sealant is a must, well that and a wetsuit or two when camping in UK
Brings back a memory. Wife & I went camping about 30 years ago to Clacton in a tiny tent it rained freezing cold didn't sleep a wink got up at 5am went home. Best part was getting home having bacon sandwich going to bed happy days.
I’m sorry I shouldn’t laugh but you summarised camping quite nicely at times! North wales is epic but if it rains it rains and that was rain! 🌧️ Rachel & David
We are driving over to England from Germany on the 26th. Five days in London with Family and six days in camping in Cornawll. Fingers crossed that the summer makes an appearance again.
Oh, we hope the weather is good for you and the tides are out when you visit the beaches! Make note of the tide times, as some beaches can not be visited when tide is in. Kynance cove and Perranporth are definitely worth seeing. If you have the weather, they are better than Spain..👍
Hi,we stayed at Redruth in Globevale earlier this year. It is a great part of the country and Perranporth is our kids favorite beach. Hope you have an awsome holiday👍
Nice! The worst parts will fade in your memories and what you and the kids will remember is being together and the great time you had on that Wales adventure. Precious! 🤗
happy kids especially the little one ..a wife trying to keep spirits up and making the most ..and one hell of a grumpy dad..best off leaving him at home next time ..
Feel for you on the leak ...just got back from lee meadow farm(excellent site in-between woolacombe and Ilfracombe) weather wasn't kind on some days but my trusty 600xl Vango maritsa keep us absolutely dry(2017 tent) ..just loving how you're making memories with the family ❤
@@matthewsteedman3871 hi, yes it is all fixed now. But, as saying to a few others, we are now thinking of a new tent. We have had the vango now for 3 years and have had about 6-7 weeks away in it. Not a lot, but the weather has been quite punishing at times. Think with Scott's massive patience? If we do get a tent, it will probably be an air tent..
Lovely and heart warming video, loved the humour too. What great memories you are making and stories you can retell which will no doubt become embellished over time. Glad to see you all got some sunshine in the end. Camping is really character building, and you guys are so adaptable, that vid was so enjoyable, thanks.
Couldn't agree more; you're building wonderful memories for the future, even if the weather isn't brilliant. You obviously all get on and it;s really nice to see you're making the best of the family time. Scott is just practicing early for when he gets full Victor Meldrew.
Aww, welcome to Wales! Isn’t our weather just grand?! 😂 I loved this video. Your experiences reminded me of camping holidays with our children when they were nippers….especially your conversations and being determined to laugh your way through the torrential rain. The continual rainfall whenever we went away for a weekend was why we got rid of the tent and bought a touring caravan 😂😉
Been there done that in the 70s don't want to do it again remembering the kids paddling in wellies because it was so wet and cold then a wave went over the top of their wellies happy days
Great video. I am a camper and camped for many years in a large tent which never leaked. But it was a german made canvas one which weighed a ton. I Now have a small campervan to which I attach a tailgater tent, making the whole thing 22 feet long. It goes up in minutes. Someone else mentions seamsealer, a glue which is applied to the seam inside of the tent and will cure your leak. However, what we always take is a large Tarp to put over the tent bit of the outfit. Even if there are leaks, this will keep the tent dry and again, goes up in minutes. Better still, it has a reflective surface on the inside which cools the tent in the boiling weather you did not have, and also provides an awning to sit in and somewhere to put muddy boots and wet rainwear.
Hi, we were able to resolve the leak in the end with some sealer. As it now stands we have actually bought a new tent, we did look at campervans and caravans, but the expense vs how often we think we could use them, did play a big part. But next year, we mat be looking again, and we do like the sound of a campervan with the tailgator tent👍
Hi, yes the kids still enjoyed themselves, and even though we only had two days of sun, it was still enough to make some great memories. A week in Wales and the week dads hair turned grey😄
@@michaelhorsman3380 Fair play to you. We do love Cornwall. If you do not mind a bit of driving, you can see a different beach each day, all of which places like Spain would be jealous👍
I love the Rain Army. I like your tent and seeing your kids play around tent. My wife from ROP and my daughters now love rainy weather and relocated to Seattle out of this dry area we live in. My best rain vacation was Murren Switzerland with friends and family. Tent leaking I agree sucks. I also been to IOM and Wales on motorcycle rides. Loved both
Hi, lol, glad you liked the video, we made great memories for the kids on this trip and gave Scott a few more grey hairs. He will laugh about it one day though I am sure😄
Looks like you had a sort of great time and made the most of it. Stayed at Harlech a few times over the past few years always in July and been very lucky every time with very hot weather, visits to Criccieth every time along with Aberdaron and Barmouth, it was that hot one year that you couldn't walk on the sand as it burnt your feet!
Oh wow, well it does seem that the UK summer is getting earlier and earlier. Maybe we will look at going again next year around June or July? I will see if I can talk Scott around to it, but we may be restricted by school holidays..🙄
It is rubbish when it rains ....but we go to Criccieth every year and are here now and having the best time ....in a tent on a hill and weather so far is good .....
Nice tent, shame it started leaking but a bucket would sort that problem out. Its been a rubbish summer in the UK this year but at night sleeping with the sound of the rain hitting the tent must have been decent.
Hi, when the rain was light it was quite soothing..but the constant dripping from our new shower was a bit depressing. Tent is fixed now though and ready for next trip👍
Hi, totally agree. But we have had some good trips. We have had two to Cornwall, both in May and it has been lovely weather. But Wales, does seem to have something against us..Scott is now looking at caravans..🙄
The rain is the reason i bought a campervan.feel for yous shame this country never gets a decent summer.i went camping october was red hot thu the day froze during the night vowed never again.
I love holidaying in UK. its just the damn weather. In a tent in blazing sun too hot, then it buckets down. I am glad I watched your video. I have a similar tent. I will be taking a trap to put over the top for sun and to give extra protection in heavy rain. Hopefully you will have a better experience in Wales next time.
Hi, yes didnt put us off Wales (well maybe Scott). But looking to go back next year if Scott hasn't booked a cruise😆, of which there is no chance cos he is too tight.

I see that they often come with a warning: Drizzle proof.! We spent 40 years under canvas all over the country ;our first plastic tent was a shocker.
Great family video reminded me when I was younger in our touring caravan in Scotland. Rain, sun but most of all family fun 😎💙🏴
Hi Glad you liked it...Family fun for everyone except Scott😄
Thanks for sharing the fun x
Abardaron beach looks lovely. Great video, well edited.
It's the Mountains when it rains the clouds stick there 4 miles away sunny as hell biked round there many times, you deserve better 😊
Hi, lol, think Scott feels like he deserved better, but the countryside there and the views are lovely. Definitely going back there, as when the sun was out, we really enjoyed it..hopefully next time, we will get at least 3 days of sun though🤞
You bunch of stars! Thanks for this half hour of joy.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would definitely turn around and get home.
Loved your video! We have experienced so many holidays like this, kids will love the memories, rain or sunshine1
Hi and thank you for the comment, kids did still love this holiday and Scott will definitely remember it😆
Lovely family-Well done sticking it out and you got some decent weather in the end-Kids remember holidays - My two lads now 25 and 30 still go down to St Ives every year where we used to go when they was young .
Thank you and glad it brought back some memories...and St Ives..Awsome place, but a lot busier these days. A nice if you can park town..
Hi and thank you for your kind words, I will let Scott know someone finds him amusing and not annoying😆 he will be chuffed..
Always have seam seal with you that's from an old camper I'm now 75 to old now have a good time
Lol, a few people have said that.
Lol, you are so true. One great thing about camping is the smell of bacon being fried wafting across the field in the morning...
I’m sorry I shouldn’t laugh but you summarised camping quite nicely at times!
North wales is epic but if it rains it rains and that was rain! 🌧️
Rachel & David
Hi yep, twice we have been to North Wales, and both times, it has been pretty bleak.
Hopefully next year we will be lucky?
We are driving over to England from Germany on the 26th. Five days in London with Family and six days in camping in Cornawll. Fingers crossed that the summer makes an appearance again.
Oh, we hope the weather is good for you and the tides are out when you visit the beaches! Make note of the tide times, as some beaches can not be visited when tide is in.
Kynance cove and Perranporth are definitely worth seeing.
If you have the weather, they are better than Spain..👍
We will stay just 10 minutes from Perranporth. Fingers crossed.
Precious!
🤗
Lol, we also have Scott's grey hair as a memory of this trio😅
Camping is brilliant, I love it when you’re faced with a set of challenges, it makes things far more interesting, loved your blog!
Hi, thank you for the comment and glad you liked it👍
happy kids especially the little one ..a wife trying to keep spirits up and making the most ..and one hell of a grumpy dad..best off leaving him at home next time ..
Hi, lol...We would do, but would have no one to laugh at..😁
Feel for you on the leak ...just got back from lee meadow farm(excellent site in-between woolacombe and Ilfracombe) weather wasn't kind on some days but my trusty 600xl Vango maritsa keep us absolutely dry(2017 tent) ..just loving how you're making memories with the family ❤
Lol, memories for kids and for me it is a weapon that I can use against Scott to remind him how grumpy he is whenever he moans at me😁
Try fabsil seam sealer on the part where it's leaked
Thank you so much for your comment..the trip was a bit character destroying in Scott's case😄 but yes, great memories were made...
Couldn't agree more; you're building wonderful memories for the future, even if the weather isn't brilliant. You obviously all get on and it;s really nice to see you're making the best of the family time. Scott is just practicing early for when he gets full Victor Meldrew.
I rode my bike past some campings past months and rain everytime. Felt sorry for you campers. But at least the are having fun.
Hi, lol, yes I think Scott is having second thoughts about tents, but don't think kids will let him😄
Just started watching your videos ,absolutely love them ,chins up to the wine love a glass of wine ,here’s to many more brilliant videos
Hi fellow wine lover, thank you for the kind comments😁
Been there done that in the 70s don't want to do it again remembering the kids paddling in wellies because it was so wet and cold then a wave went over the top of their wellies happy days
Hi, fortunately we didn't encounter knee high floods, but it would have made a great video if we had, Scott would have aged 10 years in a week😄
Rain thats camping all about the kids thay enjoyed them selfs memories.
Hi, yes the kids still enjoyed themselves, and even though we only had two days of sun, it was still enough to make some great memories. A week in Wales and the week dads hair turned grey😄
Oh I remember this so well!😂
just watched from cyprus ! thank you . brought back some amazing memories what a lovely family you have .
Hi thank you so much for your kind comment
Absolutely loved this video!!!!
Another great video best yet.. Thanks guys.. Giving me hope for my 2 weeks in a tent in Cornwall soon😂
Two weeks! Well the odds are you are bound to have some good weather. And Cornwall is lovely. Jealous.com
We just got back from cornwall,we had storms first day, then was nice afterwards
@@michaelhorsman3380 Fair play to you. We do love Cornwall. If you do not mind a bit of driving, you can see a different beach each day, all of which places like Spain would be jealous👍
You made memories that's the main thing.
That has so cheered me up that we weren’t the only family last week trying to enjoy the rain haha.
Lol,not much enjoyment on Scott side. But at least we can look back at it now and laugh, or cry in Scott's case😁
Whistling sands is nice
Thanks for tip, we will be going back and will check it out👍
I just came across your channel and as a mother to 3 boy's and a hubby that stresses I can relate and I just love your fambam ❤️ Cat 🇦🇺
😂 A husband that stresses, love it. My favorite comment so far, a woman on my wave length x
@@TheHadwinsTV 😂 it's true ❤️
Keep up the great work 😚
It is rubbish when it rains ....but we go to Criccieth every year and are here now and having the best time ....in a tent on a hill and weather so far is good .....
Really pleased it is good weather for you. It is a stunning part of the country, and we will be back...weather permitting of course..🙄
Your daughters hair is gorgeous!! I love the colour!!
@@TheHadwinsTVhow did you fix? Re waterproof it? And the seams inside?
@@chrisstockman9128 Hi, it was quite simple with some seal sealant that we bought from GoOutdoors for about £4.
Seems (pardon the pun) to be ok now..🤞
Will never pre book camping in this country ever again. Really feel for you all!
Hi, totally agree. But we have had some good trips. We have had two to Cornwall, both in May and it has been lovely weather. But Wales, does seem to have something against us..Scott is now looking at caravans..🙄
Reminds me of my childhood holidays in the UK
😁Why did you have a grumpy dad too😄
Lovely family video 😊
Thank you 😊
Woow guys hope it's gets better for you looks like you are having fun there 🤔🤔🤔👍👍👍👍
Hi, yes it did for the last two days. But that was still enough for us to see some great sights...
The rain is the reason i bought a campervan.feel for yous shame this country never gets a decent summer.i went camping october was red hot thu the day froze during the night vowed never again.
Hi, we are actually looking at campervans later this month...Hopefully i can pursuade Scott to part with some money😁
Camping is always better with 🍷 😂
Lol, oh yes, it was the only thing that kept Scott sane😄
Love your style and sense of humour. Great vid. I thought your vid was on point with a touch of good fun.
H, thank you so much for your comment.
wholesome.
You spent hole in tent wrong😆
Loving the honesty welldone :)
Hi, glad you like the video, we have another one coming soon. Went to Cornwall for a week, and surprise surprise it rained...🙄
Just found you and subscribed reamber these times so well we had 4 children nightmare lol we now have bought an old but nice camper van . Lol feel so sorry for you but enjoyed watching you all xx
Hi, glad you enjoyed the video and we are looking at campervans later this month...exciting times😀
Enjoy pa rin kahit umulan..ganda Ng place na yon...
Camping is work but fun and in the rain hard work and stressful
Welcome to Wales! Next time you book to camp here, try booking one of the 3 days of the year we have sun shine.
Hi, lol, we want to visit again next year..we will see if we can get at least one of those 3 sunny days🤞
@@TheHadwinsTV good luck, and buy a lottery ticket. It gives better odds 😂
Aw I felt so sorry for you but the children seemed to enjoy it
Hi, yep, kids lived it, but our inflatable furniture didn't..🙄
Nice video kahit mahaba Hindi boring kaya tapudin mo talaga
Love this video ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your kind comment 👍
The kids are happy and enjoyed catching tiny fish 💕💕💕💋
This grumpy dad is a real dad, not putting on a fake mask for the audience. Excellent!
lol, you dont have to live with him😆
@@TheHadwinsTV 😄😄😄👍
There is nothing more exciting than trying to pack away a heavy wet tent in the rain 🌧️😂
Lol, do not think Scott would call it exciting😄
camping or glamping, that is a set up to rival a 5* hotel 😆
Lol, dont know about glamping, the sound of the rain on the roof resulted in it sounding like we were sleeping in a tin drum.
